Re: 29 Apr 2012: FC Twente - Ajax
Does anybody know if we can find the inspirational video De Boer showed to the players before the game? I think I saw it somewhere in a link, but can't find it again

My interpretation is this: The decision the referee has to decide whether, in committing the foul, the goalkeeper denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity. In this context, "obvious" is a fairly high bar, as in, there's no question about it. The foul itself was for tripping, and the yellow was for unsporting behavior.Orange14 schreef:I've seen these called both ways since the match official has to make a determination whether the keeper is going for the ball and the contact comes from the missed attempt at the ball. I don't have any problems with the call as it was not an intentional pull down.Tom_ schreef:Since when is a foul by the goalkeeper in that position a yellow card? If it's a card, then it's a direct red!
I agreed with the decision immediately, and further so on replays. While it was obviously a foul, and probably cynical (intentional) and therefore unsporting, I don't think it was an obvious goal scoring opportunity because of the pace of the ball and the position and direction of the attacking player's run. It's possible he would have been able to turn the ball into goal if he'd avoided the trip, but not a certainty. If the foul had happened directly in front of the goal mouth, it should have been red.

Fair enough. I reckon if it had been Vermeer, and he'd got a yellow, I'd be thinking we were very, very lucky. I can see your point though.
Actually Twente were lucky on a couple of occasions with the officiating. I think Verhoek had a go at Vertonghen right in front of the ref ('facepalm' as it were), and Alderweireld had to be treated for a cut face after he was hit by a coin from the stands...

So what has become of that? Will the KNVB take action? It seems inconceivable that a player can be injured in that way without the club getting punished somehow. Hopefully there will be a big fine, or worse.Tom_ schreef:...and Alderweireld had to be treated for a cut face after he was hit by a coin from the stands...

agree about the coin hitting Toby.the club should be punished.
As for the goalie and the penalty my son says that its a red if the player is in front or heading direct to goal . Greg was not going straight at goal so its a yellow. Had he turned towards goal before being brought down that would have been a red .

What's an obvious goalscoring opportunity then? There was a similar action this week-end in the French Cup final, with a clever goalkeeper so he didn't made a foul, and the goalscoring opportunity became a bit too obvious... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fB0Mu5DTMWYajaxusa schreef: My interpretation is this: The decision the referee has to decide whether, in committing the foul, the goalkeeper denied an obvious goalscoring opportunity. Should it be a direct shot ?
That said, I don't care that much, especially since Ajax didn't need to play against 10 players to win.

Has to be said that Vermeer had a great game.
Appie, stay strong !

Well, at least we know that had we been losing we could've walked off and gotten a rematch...ajaxusa schreef:So what has become of that? Will the KNVB take action?
