Maybe the reality that we have 8 attacking midfielders already and he was not likely to see the first team bench made him decide Brentford is a better deal for him.

At least with him no longer in our Jong team Klaassen can get some playing time. From what I have read he is a real talent.

Sorenson i think would be too costly. plus stoke are building for a european and domestic campaign. It was on the local radio only yesterday that chelsea were looking at sorenson with a view to pay around £5million which isnt too far off what we sold steks for..

Yeah I know Stoke are in the Europa League, they are my second team... Can't see Chelsea wanting Sorensen especially at £5m, maybe it's Begovic they want again...

I would prefer a younger keeper like Cillessen to come and be back up before eventually being #1. But first a defender, pretty please.

The club offered him a Young Ajax contract. No immediate first team action.

So he joined Brentford instead.

Too bad. I'm not sure it's a wise decision, with all due respect, Mr Forrester, Sir. I can guarantee you that more major clubs watch Young Ajax than Brentford. Oh well.

I too was pretty confused by this when i first heard it. Fulham, and Man City are also supposedly after him but for £2.4m

I support them as my second team because, being from Wales my best friend and his Dad are both big Stokies (his Dad is from Stoke) and I went to watch the games with them alot as a kid and teenager, so it was just natural progression i suppose. Especially when your first game is at home to Port Vale at the Victoria Ground!!

Now if we could get Sorensen for around €3m... Can anyone say ´bargain´

AIt would be nice to have Sorensen, to create more of a Danish familiar atmosphere for Eriksen and Boilesen. What I do believe we can use is a centre-back. I just saw Mertesacker could be out a favour form Werder bremen. Agood option to provide some cover and deth four our backline. I'm just saying names I doubt Aajax could ever get him or that he would be interested in leaving germany for the Netherlands. But we do need some depth in centre-back position, Ooijer looked so hopeless and passive when Ruiz passed by him to score the other day. I don't knwo, I want a centre-back badly.

I know we are looking for another goalie and a striker but another central defender is a must imo. Our only spare at present is Ooijer and he really is at the end of his days. Ok for coming on as sub but if Jan or Toby got injured I do not have much confidence in Ooijer having to play a few games in a row or Blind playing there.

I completely agree SPL ... my question is why are we (again) still looking to fill these key positions on the eve of the new season???

Or does the manager think they are not weaknesses?

Imo we should prioritize for a defender first then keeper then striker, we have so many attacking midfielders Siem could be our cover striker if need be.

I also think the player should be of sufficient quality to give Toby and Jan something to up their game for. I like the Belgian pairing but i think Toby is the weaker of the two and a new player in his position who is of similar age and better ability might make him (and Jan) a better player.

Just throwing some names around but Sabastian Coates the Uruguayan centre back performed well in the Copa America. I would love to see Martin Caceres at Ajax, i think he's a perfect partner for Janny but i doubt we could get him. Someone mentioned Mertesacker, Ron Vlaar is another interesting one for me or Zanka from FC Kobenhavn.

On the Goalkeeper front Sorensen, Velthuizen, Vorm or Cillessen are good (cheapish) options.

Ajax is negotiating with Jasper Cillessen of NEC (goalkeeper) according to De Telegraaf. De Boer states they are in talks with NEC and are working hard to get the deal done. Father of Cillessen confirms that his son has told Ajax he's interested in a move to Amsterdam.

Vermeer deserves a chance but surely buying Cillessen for 4m when he has already been in the senior dutch squad means Vermeer will be sub again!!

If Cillisen comes, and I'm not sure how hard Ajax is actually pressing for this to happen, but then again I'm on the other side of the Atlantic and can't read dutch, we should handle it in a similar way twente has done it with Boschker and Mihaylov. One of them should have the priority of course, and I'm not sure it should naturally be Cillisen, but maybe we could give Vermeer all cup matches or something like that.

Ha ha, i used to play at vale.. which meant we got taken to the games for free every week, the stoke vale rivalry was good.. especially because vale would usualy win.. (they might be poor now but the stoke vale record is good)

You're probably right, but having seen him (Cillessen) play this week-end I've got to say he didn't exactly convince me. I know it's just one game and perhaps his head was elsewhere, but still, some really silly mistakes...

HAHAHAH yeah right, I'll take my chances with Pizza before paying that amount of many for an inexperienced keeper, specially after Vorm was sold for less than 2 million, so maybe this means the deal could be off, there is not a single chance we should be paying that kind of many for that player.

and to go back to you afcajax73, I used to hate playing the Vale because they would always get a result, i remember a game where Tony Naylor was 3-5 yards out with almost an open goal, me and my friend Jamie just looked at eachother thinking 'GOAL' cos he was a machine then.... But Birkir Kristinsson, the Icelandic keeper saved it!! one of the best saves I have ever seen that! now i see Kristinsson playing golf on a course near my house, funny that.

Our offer for Cillisen has upped to 3 million. Ridiculous considering Vorm, who is ahead of him in the Oranje picking order, cost less than 2 million. If they don't take this money then forget about it!!

haha, thats almost as good as when Vale got the fire brigade down to hose the pitch before the game, Regis rounded the keeper, shot at goal... turned and ran away celebrating, only to turn back around and see the ball planted firmly in a large pile of mud! hahah amazing times.
