Re: New Players for Ajax
Just read his Wiki: troubled to say the least. I think Ajax should pass up on this opportunity. Also we don't really need another midfielder.

Re: New Players for Ajax
Agreed, we don't need another midfielder, but he is a class act when he wants to be. It's a shame hes so troubled on (and off for that matter) the pitch. I would personally say we wouldn't really want or need him, but i certainly wouldn't be dissapointed if we did go for him.
Re: New Players for Ajax
I would rather see us go after Gio dos Santos who appears to be out of favor at Tottenham and could be great on the right wing for us. I don't know what type of transfer fee he would command but if it's in the neighborhood of €4M or so it's worthwhile.
Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!

Re: New Players for Ajax
In italy he had a terrible experience and lost briefly his spot to Muslera (who has done initially even worse). At River he had a decent run, but with 2 horrible blunders, one against Boca is the worst o.g. I ever seen by a keeper in my life.
For sure he is a player and a man who needs redemption. but not a bad keeper to struggle with Vermeer.

Re: New Players for Ajax
Before moving to Italy he became an idol or River and at times looked invincible. As you mention he made to blunders that played a huge part in River's fall from grace. He is an incredible shotstopper though, but I'm worried because his recent form was so shaky, kind of what has ahppened with Julio Cesar lately.

Re: New Players for Ajax
Its difficult for a goalkeeper, if you have a bit of an off period it can last ages. its not like an outfield player (i.e. striker) where a chance may come and you get lucky and it goes in and you get your confidence back.. but as a keeper unless it blasts you in the chest or face and goes out time after time for a whole match.. your done for!ajaxcolombia schreef:Before moving to Italy he became an idol or River and at times looked invincible. Re: New Players for Ajax
I have to be honest, I would like to have him after all, although he is a very rude guy concerning staying on the bench..at Lazio he was a real troublemaker.
It seems that also Sampdoria and Paris Saint Germain asked for him, but Ajax (I quote the papers) seems to have the best cards because Samp relegated to serie B and the French club just signed Sirigu (whom we tried to sign and would have been absolutely an outstandig keeper for Ajax)

Re: New Players for Ajax
HAHAHA guys chill out he's from my home country. He plays for seattle sounders. In colombia he came up the youth ranks of Deportivo Cali, one of "the big clubs" in Colombia (we have like 7 or 8 "big clubs" in Colombia, its very even) and the only one with a private owned stadium. He was a prolific goalscorer in Colombia, and then moved to the MLS which was a little dissapointing and he hasn't been called to the national team in quite a while. I usually see he scores rather regularly in the US since Colombian sports sections always like to highlight the fact that our players are doing something abroad.Don't know if he's worth 4,7 million though.

Well if he doesn't even play for the Colombian national team and didn't make it in the MLS he surely isn't worth 4.7 mil.
Re: New Players for Ajax
This has to be a joke. I've seen Montero play on several occasions and he's quite frankly not even good enough to make the Jong Ajax team.

Re: New Players for Ajax
He hasn't done badly in seattle sounders. Even Fulham were interested in him at some point but if you play in the MLS chances of being an international for Colombia are very slim since we tend to have a very bad image about football in the US. One thing I believe though, Montero is not much different in terms of skill to Cvitanich, so doesn't make that much sense to me, as much as I would love to see a colombian player for my favorite club (anyone remeber daniel cruz? hahaha)

Re: New Players for Ajax
I'm sure the Montero thing is just paper talk for 4.7m??? I'd much rather pay that kind of money for someone a little more proven like Marcus Berg (who I think we should of signed a couple of years ago) or Tim Matavz. Or as Orange says Gio dos Santos would be an exciting player for us.
On the goalkeeper front I wouldn't mind someone like Thomas Sorensen from Stoke, he'd be available at a decent price.

T.I.P.S.= Technique, insight, personality and speed, this is the Ajax way.

Freddy Montero was THE hot striker in MLS last year at one point I seem to remember. Is he worth 4.7 m though? Not sure about that.Flipster81 schreef:I'm sure the Montero thing is just paper talk for 4.7m??? I do know that Toronto FC sold US International Maurice Edu to rangers for 4 million dollars and he is a midfielder. Sounds like a reasonable price to me if he is as good as he was past. Remember, we did pay 17 or 18 for a certain player who did not work out as expected and we could not get rid of the West Ham due to work permit issues!

Re: New Players for Ajax
Montero's Key info and Stats:
2009–2010 → Seattle Sounders FC 56 Apps, 22 Goals
2011– Seattle Sounders FC 20 Apps, 6 Goals
Montero was acquired by Seattle Sounders FC in January 2009 on loan from Deportivo Cali despite interest from Spanish side Real Betis. However, his momentum slowed down in April 2009 after Montero missed the Toronto FC match due to illness. Soon after, reports out of Seattle linked Montero to a sexual assault case with an unidentified woman. Eventually, all allegations were later dropped to insufficient evidence.
In April 2009, Montero told Sports Illustrated that he would like to play in Europe in the future. He later dismissed a rumor of a transfer to Fulham. In 2009, Montero was a MLS All-Star coaches selection and was named the MLS Newcomer of the Year.

Re: New Players for Ajax
By the way, I liked to point out two facts. One this could be good 'ol BS. And two, we wouldn't be acquiring now but in the January transfer window. So not a big deal right now. Again, in terms of skill, I think Montero is very similar to Cvitanich, a player most of us wanted to get rid of.

Re: New Players for Ajax
Sorenson i think would be too costly. plus stoke are building for a european and domestic campaign. It was on the local radio only yesterday that chelsea were looking at sorenson with a view to pay around £5million which isnt too far off what we sold steks for..Flipster81 schreef:I'm sure the Montero thing is just paper talk for 4.7m??? Re: New Players for Ajax
for the keeper thing I think it's between Carrizo and Cillesen. For the latter, NEC is asking 4 mln. Give them 2.5, a bonus and a player on loan and the deal is more than done! For the Argentinian, our media insists that the contact is concrete.
(for a loan with option to buy I think)
but what about the 2nd striker!? not another midget please! otherwise was better to keep cvitanich! maybe we should go for an african striker, like teteh bangoura of AIK Solna. not much higher, but surely more powerful.

Re: New Players for Ajax
Well if the internet is to be believed, Ajax were impressed enough to offer him a one year contract.Benji schreef:De Boer: Forrester close to a contract
23 juli 2011
Trainee Harry Forrester has made an excellent impression on Frank de Boer so far. "He is close to a contract", according to De Boer in De Telegraaf.
"He is without a doubt a good football player. But it's not only about that 2 percent of possession you have during a match. Especially those 98 percent without the ball are important. And I think he will have to improve in that department. Harry goes on a training camp along with Jong Ajax to Zeeland. Afterwards we will make our decision. But it looks good."
He apparently declined because he wanted first team football, and didn't want to spend the year playing for the youth team.
Some twitter reports are saying he signed for Brentford in League 1 that's to say the third tier of English football(???!!!???).

“If I wanted you to understand it, I would have explained it better.”
