The new Champions League magazine for this month runs an article about the great back 4 of Suurbier, Hulshoff Blankenburg and Krol . The article has a quote from a well known Dutch author Menno Pot.

After 34 Eredivisie matches, 10 Champions League matches, 6 Dutch Cup, 4 Europa Cup matches, one Johan Cruiff Schaal, friendlies vs. Shimizu S- Pulse, DC United, and Portland since mid- April, and umpteen ups and downs, it's finally time to put this baby to bed . What a long, strange trip its been.

Long story short, for an article he is writing a UK football journalist friend of mine needs to know what a Flemish TV station would say to mean an 'action replay' in a football match.
All I could think of was herhaling, but that sounds kind of lame.
Any thoughts?

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
I have been told that the Dutch government wants to ban foreigners from the beloved and world famous coffee-shops.
This would really make sense for Heineken and all the only legal hard drug dealers (alcohol business).
Some would say that Holland is going the wrong way, as other European countries, regarding many societal issues including immigration.
Anyway, my advice would be to close down the Red Light District. It should be turned into a Green Light District, dedicated to expensive fashion shops.

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
The government wants to initiate a sort of membership for coffeeshops. If you are a member of a particular coffeeshop, you can get your stuff. They want to do something about the problems the southern towns (Maastricht, Venlo, Eindhoven and others) have with illegal drug runners from Belgium and France.philippe schreef:I have been told that the Dutch government wants to ban foreigners from the beloved and world famous coffee-shops.

And your right about the Red light district. They want to close a whole bunch of 'windows' (as we call them in NL), because there is a lot of criminal activity in that area. In the 'good old days' there were softdrugs problems. But now it is a center of human trafficking and serious drug trade. Instead of prostitutes, they want to give the windows to artists/desingers to upgrade the area.

And to become a member, you'll have to permanently live in Holland. I think and hope that's against the European laws.

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
It is true that problems have arisen connected to Holland's soft drug business but it is quite arguable whether
things will change for the better with the actions the government is taking. These changes will surely come as a boost for criminal networks and will possibly create a challenge for Dutch police forces and thus a waste of resources. In Amsterdam imposing limitations over the coffeeshops will hurt most as they in a way represent a small part of its cultural heritage, attract a certain fraction of its tourists and add to its world-famous liberal image. Only border towns
may somehow be positively influenced by the new laws as they do indeed face traffic problems and so on from drug tourists from bordering countries. Banning tourist smoking in Amsterdam is however for sure a mistake.

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
Cannabis seems far less addictive and toxic than alcohol. The real problem is not that weed is tolerated in Holland, it’s that it’s forbidden in other countries.

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
Unfortunately, the level of carcinogens in cannabis are about ten times the level as found in tobacco (combustion products of the smoking process). A lot of years ago when I was in graduate school working on my PhD in chemistry, a colleague had this as his doctoral research project. I pretty much gave up smoking weed at that point.philippe schreef:Cannabis seems far less addictive and toxic than alcohol. Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
You were right to give up, especially if you smoked around 20 joints a day, like cigarettes.
In France, for instance, alcohol kills 45.000 people a year, not to mention those whose family life or social life is ruined by alcoholism. How about that ?

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
A bit late posting this but I went to the Ajax open day last week with my daugther. Not sure what to make of it tbh, there was stuff for kids but not much for free and the 'team presentation' left me a bit cold. Good to see some of the stalls though and a book by someone called Menno Pot for sale. Managed to pick up last years yearbook to go with this years for 5 Euro's and also a DVD from the Vak 410 stall which I'm looking forward to watching.

Re: Grab Bag Of Random Posts
To all US visitors of this forum: I'm travelling in september to Anaheim, California. I will be attending a Boeing seminar, but of course.. I want to see some sites when I'm in SOCAL. When I check the internet, Anaheim seems like a nice place, Angels stadium and Honda center (ducks) at walking distance. Is LA (or is Anaheim part of LA
) worth a trip?
Anyway, if you have any tips (to see, do or eat) they would be very welcome.
