Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
Thanks, I know in the EPL they can loan players out with a right to recall but these are usually short term deals. We will see how things work out. Personally I think Verhoeven will do an OK job. He may look funny but he's pretty quick on his first two steps which is all a keeper needs. It will be interesting.SPL schreef:Correct . Bizot is next and I do not think you can recall players in Holland on loan so Padt wont come back this season.

Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
And Verhoeven is a BIG man. He may be a little chubby, but he is around 2 meters tall. I agree with you that he will do a good job,Orange14 schreef:Thanks, I know in the EPL they can loan players out with a right to recall but these are usually short term deals. Whitey on the moon.
Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
Same. The whole idea that he's unfit because he's chubby is ridiculous. He's a professional athlete, I have no doubt at all that he would beat anyone on this board in a fitness test.
I guess his size / weight would slow him down in a straight out running race, but that's not so important for a goalie.

Nice piece on him here: http://totalfootballnl.blogspot.com/201 ... l?spref=tw Comparison to Piet Schrijvers is probably spot on!Tom_ schreef:Same. Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
Stekelenburg underwent surgery yesterday. His thumb has been fixed and we're now looking at 7 to 9 weeks on the sideline (rather than 4 to 6, as it was initially reported). This means Maarten Stekelenburg has almost certainly played his last game for Ajax.

His last game this season anyway. Very bad news.Kowalczyk schreef:...we're now looking at 7 to 9 weeks on the sideline (rather than 4 to 6, as it was initially reported). This means Maarten Stekelenburg has almost certainly played his last game for Ajax.

One more captain will say a silent farewell......

Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
Huntelaar also had a "silent farewell" as I recall. If offered the Captains armband, I'm not sure that I would accept it.souras84 schreef:One more captain will say a silent farewell......

That you should do!

Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
Vertonghen will now have the captains arm band and I think he will go in ther summer. Sad to think Steks may have played his last game for us. He has said he will only join a really big team so we will have to see.

Show me the money!!! And pray Kenneth is as good as he used to be!

Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
If our captains don't even last 1 year, how are we ever going to progress?

Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
The question now is : who will be our next goalie ? Vermeer or someone else ?
Appie, stay strong !
Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
If he is fully healthy, Vermeer; he has proven his worth when Stekelenberg was hurt (and out of favor with van Basten). If not, we may need to go outside the system for a new keeper until one of the youth keepers is ready. I don't fancy Bizot from what I've seen and don't know how Padt has done on loan.philippe schreef:The question now is : who will be our next goalie ? Vermeer or someone else ?

Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
I don't think Vermeer was very convincing then. Maybe we should have a go with one of the new guys from Young Ajax.
Appie, stay strong !
Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
I think Vermeer did very well -- well enough that they didn't reinstate Steks right away when he came back.
Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
As you say. I do remember how it ended too. Vermeer is not bad, although I still have a painful memory of the goal conceded in Marseille. But his style is very different from Stekelenburg's.

Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
I think he did as well. It's important to remember that he is a different type of keeper than Stekelenberg. He is shorter and more of reaction keeper in the manner of Iker Casillas. I he is full recovered from the Achilles injury he will be a capable #1.rjf1 schreef:I think Vermeer did very well -- well enough that they didn't reinstate Steks right away when he came back.

Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
I assume his different style would more or less imply a different organization for the defenders.

Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
Organization and a reference to our defenders appears to me not to really go together well in the same sentence.philippe schreef:I assume his different style would more or less imply a different organization for the defenders.

This is not only the quote of the day, but the quote of the season!!! Re: Maarten Stekelenburg
Come on, Ajax is still in competition to have the best defense for the second season in a row.

"Geef Ajax z'n goede reputatie terug!"
