New Players for Ajax

Daily Mail today quotes Ajax want to bring Edgar Davids back from Crystal Palace as player coach . Cannot believe we would want him as a player.He is struggling at Palace.
I wouldn't say no to Seedorf coming back though ,he could help bring through Bonevacia, Eriksen and Bouy(I predict he will debut next year)

We are looking at a 16 year old Danish striker Kenneth Zohore who has played for FC Copenhagen already. He has evidently turned down training at Inter and Chelsea.

Haven't seen any of Palace this season so not sure how Davids was doing but he was out of the team for ages not through poor form or fitness but because he was back in Holland as one of his parents died. That was from the Croydon Advertiser (local rag) a week or so back and Palace manager George Burley gave him as much time as he needed.

I agree though, hardly one for the future as far as playing goes.

According to the NK Maribor sporting director Zahovic, Ajax are renewing interest in Rajko Rep, Slovenian U21 att. midfielder. As i remember there were similar rumors in January.

birsa is not a winger, he's a central player

We are reported to be talking to one of Jari Litmanen's team mates at Lahti , 19 year old right back
Henry Toivomaki ,who is Finnish . His contract runs out in December so would be a free transfer .
He was on loan at Atalanta in Italy for the second half of last season but evidently did not play in the league. If Jari thinks this guy is good enough he could take V d Wiel's place next season as I am certain Greg will leave.

Reports today say we would like to sign Twente's midfielder Theo Janssen in the summer. Well he isn't abad player but Kennedy and Wielaert were not bad when we bought them from Twente.

Anyway I quess we haven't enough midfielders( treat this as my attempt at humour)

De Jong, Urby, Lindgren,Enoh,Eriksen,Lodiero,de Zeeuw, Tainio, Blind, Donald and Sno and not forgetting Anita is really a midfielder and of course VdHeijden on loan at Willem still has a contract to 2013. And then there is Bonevacia,Sneijder both going to get contract extensions and finally I predict
Bouy and Klaassen ,both 17 year olds , and already been given Jong games will break through next season. Bouy is getting an extension also and Klaassen's debut for Jong on Monday resulted in setting up Bodul's goal and scoring one himself, not bad for only 30 mins of action.

Obviously some of these will go ie Urby, Tainio Donald and Sno and Blind can play defence but I do not think we really need another midfielder unless Wesley Sneijder or Van der Vaart want to return.

We do seem to be bringing through midfielders but I cannot really come up with a list of defenders.
Anita and Toby could be the only current defenders here next season . Greg and Jan will likely go , Ooijer will be 37 and retire and Atouba and Oleguer will leave as we cannot justify their wages when neither are good enough to start . The only Jong player rated Boileson is currently injured and does seem to be abit injury prone.

Since writing the above our midfeld has looked very ordinary in 2games and in fact has done all season
so maybe we do need to buy someone in the summer. I just went through the players who would not leave and most of them seem to be midfield

Today's rumour is we are after Grygera who is leaving Juve in January . Riola is his agent and also to Jol , Mido,Atouba, Tainio . With Silva back we will be overloaded with defenders . If Greg were to go in January, and imo he is not playing well this season, we could do with a decent right back but we will have to wait and see .

He did play with Litmanen in Finland. With Silva back with us we have plenty of right backs after all V Rhijn and Ligeon (A1 right back) have both trained with the first team in the last week before Christmas.

We need a left back as Urby cannot defend, Anita is a right footed midfielder and Atouba is leaving .
Blind is a potential left back but that is the position we need to focus on when getting a new player .

I think that blind, anita and in the near future also boilesen can cover LB..I am much more worried when I think who we'll have next year at RCB, apart from Toby, considering that ooijer and oleguer hopefully will not extend..I haven't heard of anyone special in this role in our youth ranks.. maybe I'm wrong..we need a new talent in that position!

Boilesen plays both centre back and left back . Dico Koppers, yesterday promoted to the Jong Ajax also plays centre back and left back . From the current A1 I hear good things of Denswil, who is a proper centre back but at Jong level I am not sure Kappelhof will make it and V d Meulen certainly wont .

Benji is our youth expert so I will leave it to him to comment.

Agree on the twitter comment, for the rest I would respectfully disagree.
I think the last couple of years, being part of the Liverpool train crash, has not been beneficial to his development, and has drained the life out of him. He needs a fresh start.

He's still got lots of potential IMHO, particularly if used as a striker, rather than the less effective winger.
At Ajax he was forced into the role, because there was no room as No9, and that's how he was sold to Liverpool. But that was never his natural position. Or have I got that wrong?
