Jeez Louise, we managed to make this interesting way more than it needed to be. Dodgy play in the last 15 minutes almost dropped points. We need to be CLINICAL in our finishing!! Should have had at least two more goals and kept a clean sheet. Jol needs to teach this team how to kill off a match in the late stages. I'll settle for the three points.

De Kuip looked half full, and this Feijenoord side would struggle to survive in the English Championship. They stayed in the game via violence and intimidation rather than playing football. Why Bahia wasn't red-carded for the elbow assault on (I think) Suarez, I'll never know.

I think the violence was born out of frustration at just how large the gap between the two clubs has grown, Ajax had a bad day at the office, the sort of game you often see after a big midweek C.L. game yet Feijenoord where hardly ever in the game. So great is the gap in class between the two sides. It will be years before Feijenoord can compete with Ajax again.

If it wasn't for the fact that the Feijenoord fans routinely spout so much bile and hatred, I would have felt sorry for them.

OK, certainly not a classic in the true sense of the word but we've not been at our best for three games now and have got six points in the Eredivisie and a 2-0 defeat away at Real Madrid - could have been much worse and today we could easily have had 4 rather than just the 2 goals.

Feyenoord really did look a pale shadow didn't they apart from the last few minutes just after their goal when they perked up a bit. I would say that they lacked "fight" but given the antics they got up to I'm not sure that's the right word.

Three points anyway, a workman-like peformance (though nothing more) and hopefully we can pick up in time for next week.

I'm going out now to watch the mighty 'Pool. Hopefully I won't be back at half-time though if Chelsea continue like they have been it's a distinct possibility. Stamford Bridge is just round the corner from where I'm working now (I can see the ground from the window) so I could have got there for nothing with my travel pass to work and also could have got a ticket (in the Chelsea end) through a friend at work but decided to keep my £45.00 and watch it in the pub instead.....seems odd to say it but if by some miracle we get a result I'll be a bit gutted about not taking that ticket.
