Perez as replacement for Sneijder would have been a disaster. He's clearly a purely offensive player and in that position I prefer Suarez anyway.
It seems Feyenoord didn't learn from the last time they played Perez (0-4 in the Kuip against Ajax)

Arthur, you should not to take any notice of what our idiot coach says about a player.
Perez and Suarez would have been a fantastic combination .... but because of our stupid so called coach we only have Suarez.

That is my own opinion. Perez as nr 10 was not a success last year.

He doesn't have to be a carbon copy or play the exact same role as Wes in order to give the same value to a team .... and he showed that today for PSV with his positional play, vision, passing and those two fantastic goals.

Marco Van Basten was watching Chelsea vs Man Utd today. He was sitting in the directors box behind Roman Abramovich.

Schuster is a complete dick! He leaves sneijder on the bench, didnt even get him on as a sub and guess what R.Madrid drew 1-1 away to Valladolid.

I have to agree. If you saw the PSV game, you'll be hard pressed NOT to be impressed. With Suarez + Kennedy/ Luque, we're just above average, We'd be really special had we gone with Suarez + Perez.
Sneijder vs. Perez

I should actually post this here...
Kowalczyk schreef:ZoefdeHaas schreef:[Perez] wouldve been Sneijder's perfect replacement but meh..
Wesley Sneijder was brilliant in his last year, but we always had our doubts in earlier seasons. Do you remember why?
Because Sneijder didn't defend. He used to think offensively and refused to do any dirty work when Ajax lost the ball. What made him brilliant in his last season was the fact that he lost a bit of weight, did loads of powertraining and running, and actually became a very dynamic, energetic and hard-working midfielder, who kept racing around, was surprisingly strong for someone his height and more than willing to tackle and win the ball back.
It was Sneijder's final step to the top. He made it - and won himself a 27 million euro transfer to Real Madrid.
As much as I like Perez; he doesn't do that. He is stand-offish in duels and doesn't 'shift back' from his offensive to his defensive mode. I would guess that he runs only half the distance that Sneijder runs during a game. With Perez in Sneijder's place we would have had the old problems back: the problems in midfield that we used to have with the (slightly lazy) Sneijder from
before 2006.
Kenneth Perez is an true 'artist', but he must be played as a
forward or as a creative central midfielder on a four-man (!) midfield (rather than a three-man midfield). In other words: the perfect PSV player, I'm afraid...

All very true.

Relevant if we persist with a system we are ill equiped to play(Two great wingers needed for 4-3-3 .... and we ain't had two great wingers since Finidi and Overmars). Irrelevant in a 4-4-2 deploying two grafters and two creative players.
We relied too heavily on Wes last season, he hauled our collective Arse out of the shit time and time again with his magnificent interventions. And this season? It looks as if Ajax is already too reliant on the Suarez/Huntelaar axis.
Kowalczyk schreef:

True enough.
Ten cate's options last season: 4-3-3 employing a so called left winger who couldn't cross the ball( and rarely scored) and one creative/goal scoring midfielder.
4-4-2 employing two creative/goal scoring midfielders with the infrequent scoring so called left winger confined to the bench.
That Henk persisted with the former pretty much sums up his arrogant can do no wrong attitude.
HTC or Perez? The choice is between a glorified 'number 2' or a top class footballer - I know which one I'd choose.
I'm pretty pissed offf with HTC

.....
Some more food for thought: PSV have Aissati, Afelay and Perez. Because of dopey Henk's obsession with his failed 4-3-3 we only have Suarez. I dread to think how Ajax will perform if it has to do without Suarez for a significant period.

Since when did PSV own the copyright to 4-4-2?

I agree with most your post Ko, but we do have Gabri (and even Davids) who are enrgetic in midfield. We simply miss the creative spark from the middle which Sneijder gave, but so did Perez.

Not sure if vB would leave just before Euro 2008. Maybe he will take over after that?

As a Dutch fan Id be glad to see VB out after Euro 08, even if he wins it. I dont think he'll leave now, of if Chelsea would even want him

Van Basten wouldn't last a week, I'm afraid. He hates the media, and the media in England are the worst in the world. And he's got no experience as a clubcoach. He still needs a mentor if he would become a clubcoach, otherwise he will go down very soon.

Good old Yannis Anastasiou left The Castle on a free transfer and joined First Division side FC Omniworld. Which means he's playing down the road from Amsterdam, over in Almere.

Cheers Ko, I was wondering what had happened to Yannis. Good to see he's still playing, and in NL as well - FC Omniworld in the cup maybe?? (but let's hope he doesn't get the winner

)

It's been a few years, but they're essentially still the same boys: Zlatan scoring a fantastic goal, Cris Chivu getting sent off... Some things never change.
