Heerenveen "just" have to won one game out of the last two to stay 5th... It might be interesting for us that they do this against AZ, otherwise they would have to do it at home against Feyenoord, which might be good fun. :D

I love the drama this week ; Ajax v. a club that flipped them the bird on the 8th and AZ v. NAC with a chance for a cup final for a club not used to winning cups. Then , both sides MUST win Sunday to have any hope of pipping PSV. HUP AJAX! F*** Off AZ!

Heerenveen are slightly ahead now (goal differential) and I am pretty sure that they will want the last game of the season to be a must-win for feyenerd - and not for themselves. I really think they'll give everything for a result at AZ on Sunday, and I think they'll get it, too.

(It would be soooo hilarious if f'nerd crash out of the top five, especially because they won't win the play-offs for #6 either!)

The problem for us will be PSV. Utrecht will have to win if they want to finish 9th (and qualify for the play-offs for #6) and I am sure that they will fight like lions, but I fear that they simply don't have the quality. PSV have given themselves a confidence boost last weekend - and my fear is that they will make no more mistakes.

I'll be in 113 at the ArenA and rooting like hell for Bradley , Alves, and Co. I saw a blurb in the Spits about Koevermans possibly missing tonight so hopefully he'll not be 100% even if he plays.

People threw fire work on the field.. And the fans went berserk and pulled the seats off and started throwing with them. And then the ref cancelled the game.. :D

Den Haag...what a disgrace! Amazing those animals are still permitted to enter the stadium at all. How much bad behaviour do the idiots ( apologies to all self-respecting members of the idiot community) get to engage in before the word BAN becomes part of the vocabulary there?

Sounds like a good atmosphere. :eusa_liar:

That stuff happened all the time in Greece when I lived there. Made for interesting matches.

The game was actually interrupted twice...

The first time was after two minutes. Den Haag fans were throwing so many firecrackers and rockets on the pitch (aimed at the Groningen goalkeeper) that the referee sent the teams back into the dressing rooms for a 'cooling down period' of fifteen minutes.

They came back out, Groningen took a 0-3 lead in the first half and then the demolishing started. It was their last home game at old Zuiderpark Stadium, so the fans must have thought: let's be helpful and tear the place down... Second half started and they almost immediately started throwing explosives again. And seats.

Referee decided: that's it, enough is enough. Game called off. Striker Michael Mols, who played for Den Haag for many years, was supposed to get an 'applause substitution' in the dying minutes, but the fans destroyed his last hurrah for him...

Oh well, they said goodbye to the Eredivisie 'in style'...

Funny detail: after the game Groningen coach Ron Jans said something like "We were 0-3 up, so for all I care they make that the final result. I don't really feel like coming back here for the final 42 minutes, or to play those 42 minutes at some empty stadium elsewhere."

Turned out that should have done the maths better... If Feyenoord vs Heerenveen ends in a draw Groningen can (in theory) still finish 5th and qualify for the play-offs. If Feyenoord and Heerenveen draw, it will be a goal-differential battle between Roda and Groningen for 5th place. So Groningen had to correct Jans' statement and demand that the game against Den Haag be finished. Which will actually happen: the two teams will play the remaining 42 minutes behind closed doors, at the ground of First Division side FC Emmen.

I think that Den Haag won't be interested - and that Groningen can score as many extra goals as they want. Roda won't be pleased. And (last but not least) the pressure will be on Feyenoord: they will have to win in Heerenveen (a draw is not enough), otherwise they'll crash out of the top five and then they might not qualify for Europe at all. No European football in the season of their centenary... whahahahaaaha! Hilarious.

If Ajax's goal-differential were the temperature in degrees Celsius it would be like fucking Las Vegas in July. If Feyenoord's goal-differential were the temperature we would all be ice-skating on the canals, *LOL*

Also, an empty ground in Emmen... what a sad setting for Den Haag to play their last 42 minutes of Eredivisie football... It couldn't happen to a bigger bunch of w*nkers.

If the KNVB disciplinary committee does its job Den Haag will play next seasons first match in an empty stadium.

What a fitting housewarming party!

The average Eredivisie game was attended by 18,052 spectators this season, a new record in the history of the Dutch league. That's almost as much as the average attendance in the Italian Serie A (19,158). That is absolutely spectacular. These are wonderful times for the Dutch league.

The average attendances per club:

1. Ajax: 48,551
2. Feyenoord: 40,382
3. PSV: 33,649
4. Heerenveen: 25,506
5. Vitesse: 20,176
6. Utrecht: 20,064
7. Groningen: 19,159
8. AZ: 15,912
9. NAC: 14,487
10. Roda: 14,429
11. Twente: 13,178
12. Willem II: 12,578
13. NEC: 12,015
14. Sparta: 9,984
15. Heracles: 8,404
16. Den Haag: 7,059
17. RKC: 5,879
18. Excelsior: 3,168

As you all know ADO Den Haag will play in the First Division next season. De Graafschap will take their place and they play in front of 9,000 people at the very least, quite possibly 10,000+ at their ground of 11,000. Excelsior have a ground with a capacity of only 3,500. If they go down via the play-offs, they will definitely be replaced by a club with a higher average attendance.

This is not bad. These figures would have been absolutely and totally unthinkable in the 1980s and 1990s.

Remarkable really. Esp teams like Heerenveen, that is an amazing average. I guess it also helped that AZ had a new stadium, actually since the 80s/90s, pretty much the quality of all the stadiums in Holland has improved which has probably helped no end.

May the good times continue...

Ko - any chance you can post this years compared to last years, or even 10 years ago? I know, I know - I ask a lot
