Oh and meant to add...in the words of my wife Suze.

"If it (the shootings) was happening so often, people wouldn't be so surprised or shocked".

Trust her to wrap it up in such a small comment. So beautiful and so smart... :excited.gif:

Mlb.com tonight after LA Angels - Texas Rangers:
A pitchers' duel ended when Casey Kotchman's single knocked in Garry Matthews Jr., who doubled to lead off the ninth. Kotchman was hitless prior to the walk-off. Starter Ervin Santana allowed just one run on six in eight frames, but left with a no-decision.

ANAHEIM -- Casey Kotchman swung twice and missed twice. He exited the batter's box and exhaled deeply and wiped his brow. This time would be different. With the score knotted at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth and a man on, Kotchman lined a roller to right field just beyond the glove of Mark Teixeira, lifting the Angels to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory in the Texas series opener Friday.

After eight superb innings by Kelvim Escobar and a near-flawless ninth by closer Francisco Rodriguez, it was time for the Angels offense to do its part.

Held to an uncharacteristically low six hits, the Angels started the ninth with a leadoff double from Gary Matthews Jr. After a Garret Anderson groundout moved Matthews to third, Kotchman delivered the deciding blow.

Matthews and Vladimir Guerrero paced the offense with two hits each.

Larry Santana is an associate reporter for MLB.com
This was published on the official mlb baseball website tonight by Larry Santana. Is this guy drunk or so? Three big mistakes in such a small article...

I've put the mistakes in bold. First of all, Kelvim Escobar was pitching today, not Ervin Santana. Second error is that it was not a come-from-behind victory as the Angels lead 1-0 and 2-1 finally. Third mistake is that the Angels had 7 hits, not 6 as the author wrote. Imo this is a piece of very crappy journalism and author Larry Santana should be put to shame for all eternity. Ajax USA, can't you train these people in how to write a game report?

Why does this video remind me, in an odd way, of the scenes I have witnessed around football grounds a few times...?

Yeah, that was quite amazing but I think the North side of the 38th Parallel are actually better known for that type of thing

I just wanted to give a shout out to the USA rugby team, who played like lions today against England in the world cup. Even though they lost, the fought for the entire match and England will probably feel pretty embarassed that they both scored the same amount of points in the second half (final score 28-10).

U.S. were also a bit unlucky as a pretty obvious trip went unnoticed by the referee. I suspect Phil Vickery will be banned for the next game. Nice to see the neutral fans supporting the Eagles as well.

The U.S. will be lucky to win one game this tournament, but if they continue to play the way they did against England today, they will have nothing to be ashamed of.

England, on the other hand, have to be pretty worried about their upcoming match against South Africa. If the amateurs of the U.S. can put some hits on the English forwards, I hate to think what guys like Os du Randt and Schalk Burger are going to do.

With all due respect to the US team, it seemed that England weren't giving it all (unlike Australia and New Zealand, which left me speechless in front of my TV).

True, but people were predicting that England were going to score 60 points or more. England were flat for sure, but I'm pleased that the pundits got it wrong.

South Africa is going to crush them if they don't improve a ton.

Speaking of needing to improve, what happene to France?

Simple : Laporte, the French coach, is too busy negociating his job as minister of sports in sarkozy's gouvernment. :neutral.gif:

Amen. Also, I can't help but feel they had too much pressure on the shoulders before the game. The country is in bad shape nowadays and people need our teams to do well in the most popular sports to escape from their dull realities.... And I guess the players are starting to realize just that.

To Philippe: Guy Môquet's letter read by Clément Poitrenaud just before the game, seriously WHAT THE FUCK.

Sarkozy did the same the day he got in power (and decided to make the reading of this letter in all schools mandatory), there's definitely something fishy about all this.
Poor Môquet, he must be rolling in his grave right now (for all the non-french readers of the boards, he was a communist, read more here).

I see what you mean - the letter thing is a bit over the top and surely demeans a hugely symbolic piece.

On the whole I suppose it's pretty harmless as a piece to wave flags to though - unlike what tends to happen here where attempts to stir up patriotic feelings before a big sporting occasion tend to involve WWII in a more literal sense - planes/bombs and the like and just end up downright offensive with the more thoughtful half of the country wishing they were from somewhere else......

Support the losers : buy a shirt signed by Laporte for 130 euros "only" (instead of 52 euros). On his own website.

Crook.

Well, I'm not going to bite in a big way but I don't think there's that much politics on here at all.

When we're talking international sport in whatever country and whatever sport a certain amount of jingoistic nationalism always creeps in - I thought that's what we were discussing - very much footy/sport related......

Laporte using his job as national coach to sell signed shirts for his own benefit : what's has it got to do with politics ? :aai.gif:

by the way I just hate sarkozy, and France never won a big competition when there was a right wing gouvernment : they bring bad luck :drecul.gif:

Harold Wilson (English/UK Prime Minister in 1966) was famously quoted as saying that England only ever win the World Cup under a Labour Government :biggrin.gif: (And I had a t-shirt with that on years ago when Labour was still l/w.

Props to Scotland, I hope France can still manage to make it to the European Championship and Italy gets knocked out along the way, that'd be killing two birds with one stone.
