I think Valencia is a poor poor move for him, but if theyre paying im not complaining

thats true, but he himself says hes accepted a 5 year deal with valencia!

I understood that Greg has accepted a 5 year contract with Valencia starting on 1 July 2012. So that means he will finish this season for Ajax and that both clubs are still negotiating about the amount of millions Valencia is gonna pay for this transfer.

Don't we have the upper hand here since he is under contract until June 2013? What is the best guess about the transfer fee? I would like to see a minimum of €12 M but suspect that it will be €10 M.

That's correct Orange14, as Van der Wiel has a contract until June 2013 Ajax has the upper hand here. In my opinion a transfersum between €10 M and €12 M will be fine. Since Valencia is willing to sign Van der Wiel Greg is playing better, but I don't like him that much. His defense skills are not superb at all. He is a little bit overrated and many times he loses concentration during a game.

Well I thought it was a done deal. That gives us time to think about his replacement.

Miguel is out of contract in the summer and probably won't be renewed so Greg, if he does sign will be their 1st choice right back.

Side note; Maduro is out of contract too, surely he might be worth looking at.

Good enough to play in the Eredivisie as a centre back or defensive midfielder, also being a former Ajacied he would be a great buy.

im unsure on whether we should take him back or not, but as said before.. chivu and maduro are both improvements on ooijer.

Ajax today confirmed Valencia have offered 10m euros and Ajax want 12m . I expect they will end up agreeing but I cannot understand why such a transfer needs to be agreed in January when it wont go through until July!!

At least this is firm and not just a rumour.There have been rumours concerning 9 other Ajax players leaving this month .All just newspaper stories made up.

As long as El Hamdaoui is one of the non-rumours, it's good with me!

Greg says today that he wants a top club otherwise he may stay with us next season to see out his contract. I hope this does not happen as V Rhijn can actually defend. V d Wiel
defending was its usual moderate self last week . I am sure some bigger club will buy him if he has a good Euro Champs. I quess what he is saying is that if the choice is say a moderate english side like Everton he would stay ie . he clearly has more ambition than Heitinga who is happy to play for a moderate english side .

I thought he had agreed with Valencia on terms but that the club had not agreed to the transfer fee. Has this changed?

I think so . Valencia would not meet Ajax's valuation so that transfer appears off.

Personally I hope we sell him. We have a replacement and could always use more money to pay El Hamdaoui.

I'm hoping he turns in MOtM performances for the next 3 weeks.
Even if he doesn't Ajax should actively try and sell him.
