I'm not sure if this is just a rumour. But I've heard that when you squash a mother cockroach under your boot, it's eggs stay undamaged and hatch so that tens of new little cockroaches are born. That's Feyenoord this season. They've played horribly almost every single game and been squashed time and time again, but somehow they seem to leave behind their young and are able to win just in time to stay in the trail of Ajax.

So I'm hoping that Ajax won't need Feyenoord to lose to stay above them. But just in case, let's hope Feyenoord gets squashed a couple more times. ;)

PSV 2-3 AZ today.

Two straight losses for the leaders. Wow!

I think that this is the first time that AZ beat Psv in a very long time. Let's hope that this will cause Koeman to lose grip on his team resulting in more of these type of results. Koeman does have a history in that. Remember Ajax coach Koeman.

:yes: 0:1 and that was also in Eindhoven.

I was quite confident AZ would score a few goals in Eindhoven. PSV were badly exposed in defensive situations by Roda in Kerkrade the previous week. Roda could have scored five or six goals that day.

Football is a boys' game and we all know that footballers. Pushing, pulling, elbowing, bodychecking - we've seen it all before, but last weekend's violent behaviour of Sebastien Sansoni, French midfielder of Vitesse Arnhem, in their regional 'grudge game' against NEC, was... remarkable.

Sansoni got into an argument with NEC's Roy Beerens. The usual intimidating, chest-thumping and pushing ensued, after which Sansoni... bit Beerens' nose. X'D Seriously: he stepped forward and bit his nose.

The proposed 'reward' from the KNVB for this milestone in the history of the game: a suspension of five games.

Froggies... Weird chaps. ;)

CAS dismisses Feyenoord appeal

The Lausanne-based Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has dismissed an appeal by Dutch club Feyenoord against its exclusion from this season's UEFA Cup.

UEFA said today that it had received written confirmation from CAS that the appeal filed on 26 January had been dismissed. This means that the UEFA Appeals Body's decision of 19 January is confirmed.

The Appeals Body excluded Feyenoord from all UEFA competitions for the current season following crowd disturbances at the UEFA Cup group stage match at AS Nancy-Lorraine on 30 November. English side Tottenham Hotspur FC will receive a bye in the UEFA Cup Round of 16 as previously communicated.

How hard can you get on them? Italian football has already been scarred from horrible things in the past years.

the strange thing about the UEFA / feydr@ne case is that the troubles in Nancy were caused by hooligans who already got a stadium ban in Holland. But were allowed to go to UEFA games. So in a way feydr@nr are punished because of the stupid UEFA policy.

It's not the UEFA who allowed them to enter the stadium, but the local authorities (préfet and co) because they were destroying the city center... The problem is that they shouldn't have been allowed to be in Nancy and I'm not sure this is the UEFA's fault in this case, nor the one of Feyenoord.
But well, I won't cry for them. ;)

Exactly.

In fact, it's even more bizarre. Feyenoord only sold their allocation of tickets for travelling supporters to registered, 'good' supporters. But then, Nancy announced that there was going to be free presale at the stadium, the weel before the match. Feyenoord knew that a number of supporters with a stadium ban was gonna go there, in order to buy a large number of tickets. The club then actually warned Nancy, and the local authorities: "Beware, people of Nancy, Feyenoord fans will show up at your stadium in order to buy tickets. There is a serious risk that these are people with stadium bans. We can take no responsibility for these people and we advise you to not sell tickets to any Dutch fans."

But Nancy did it anyway - and the rest is history.

Feyenoord really have done everything that can reasonably be demanded from them. But even if that wasn't the case: it's an extremely harsh punishment. In the past, goalkeepers and players from certain clubs were actually hit by sharp/heavy objects thrown from the stands (which is far worse than trouble on the stands) - and those clubs got away with less. The UEFA have no idea what their policy is. They don't have a clue, except that they don't want to get into an argument with the richer clubs from the major football countries, so they always go easy on them.

It is forbidden, but by selling tickets at the stadium box offices, without demanding and checking ID, Nancy gave banned Feyenoord hooligans the opportunity to drive down to France and buy a big fat stash of tickets - even though Feyenoord warned Nancy that a number of banned hooligans were on their way to Nancy in order to buy the tickets they couldn't get in Holland.

And I add that I'm not sure that the UEFA have the power to forbid the troublemakers from travelling. Also I read that Feyenoord hooligans didn't even had tickets : maybe they came to buy them (I didn't know that and in that case, it is Nancy's fault), but it's the local authorities who decided to park them in the stadium as a "safety measure" to preserve the city centre.

In the end, I think it's just bad management from Nancy (the club and authorities) and a legal problem : the UEFA may forbid them to enter in the stadium, but not from being around it... (I think it's the Netherlands job or even EU).

That would be a job for the Dutch authorities, indeed. They should consider the same thing as in England. A number of registered England hooligans are not allowed to leave the country during the week of an England away game.

But the U.K. is an island, which makes it easier. All you have to do to prevent those people from leaving the country, is check passports at airports and at the entrance of the tunnel to France. It's much harder to stop every car crossing the (open) Dutch-Belgian border...

All said about supporters having a ban who still got tickets is true. However, reports suggest that the riots were conducted by large groups of fyenoord'fans', not only by them who already had a ban. Feyenoord and her supporters have caused trouble in the uefa competitions for a number of years in a row. There comes a time that uefa sais enough is enough and it seems that time has arrived. I cannot blame them for that. It's not as if Nancy was an isolated, one time affair!

This particular incident was an isolated one. I mean, I can't remember any previous occasion with Feyenoord fans where they started a riot of this scale. Obviously it didn't help that they had the issue with the player hit by a beer cup in the round before but they were already punished for that. The exclusion for the UEFA cup was based on this event only and to be honest, I don't think it is fair to blame Feyenoord for the lack of proper legislation with regards to football hooliganism in Holland.

Hopefully this event will speed things up and we will have a proper law to fight hooliganism in such a way that only hooligans are affected.

That's a good and valid point, actually.

In fact: Feyenoord fans also caused trouble in the UEFA Cup game prior to the Nancy one, namely their home game against Blackburn Rovers. One of the English players was hit by a plastic cup of beer. The UEFA was investigating that incident when 'Nancy' happened. Serious irregularities while another case was still pending... That definitely didn't help Feyenoord.
