Poland - it happens again that we can't make a minimum plan. It was the same like in Korea/Japan 4 years ago. We had really good qualifies but lost the form just before the World Cup.
Tough luck, mon ami. Hope your boyz have a better run next time.

Clearly you've never seen Canada play. :headbang:

I don't understand this talk about Holland not playing offensive football. It's not that you choose to defend, it's the case that Ivory Coast played better in 2nd half and we were forced to defend. We all know that Van Basten will never sacrifice the game to good play. In the first half we took all the initiative and went 2-0 up, same with Serbia. So what ?

And anyway, who is playing offensive football ??!! cause even Argentina were forced to do some rush defending in 2nd half against Ivory Coast.

I would also like to remind you that when we won European Champ in 1988 the first 3 matches were: loss against USSR, good game against Enlgand and poor / very lucky game against Ireland.

In 1998 which was a very good World Cup for us, we started with a boring draw with Belgium, a good win over Korea and another average game with Mexico.

Yep, I'm sure that my grandsons will be extremely happy with that (if you know what I'm talking about) ;).

Another chance that at least one Pole (Tomasz Radziński) will have a good game ;). Besides, they can use their ice-hockey team  .

Looking at the results since 1979, you have won 4 and there have been 6 draws so it is about time the luck turned for England.
It'll just be a "cooked up" result, just to avoid the Germans!
Hehe I think that they will fight to the death just *to play* against Germany. In a form like this year they are not a team that the rest should be afraid of. The only thing that can help them are the referees. Germany - as a host country - could be in a privileged way, just like South Korea 4 years ago, when they (with a bit of luck, Hiddink's genius, but the most thanks to the referees' help) reached semi-finals. I'm afraid that it will be the same with Germany this year.

What did I tell you? What a brilliant piece of "defending" to get the "cooked up" result!
Sven, you should be proud of your team and how they followed your instructions in getting a draw!! I assume those donkies in defence will be parading on Blackpool Beach this year!!!
Unfortunately ----- they were winning!

It is an unwritten law in football. If both teams need the draw, then a draw it will be.

But we have to confirm that it was really good game. If you look on that game one more time it will be hard to say that it was "cooked" game... The same was a few years ago, when Sweden and - as far as I remember - Denmark needed 2-2 draw.

Im sorry but van der Vaart and Sneijder will only get in each others way, and I dont expect Raffie to take up some defensive duties. If we want to win the world cup we must beat Argentina, in order to avoid playing Portugal. I doubt we will though :nooo:

Have faith in Van Basten. It must serve some sort of purpose that we mortals don't understand.

If we want to win the world cup, we need to not be afraid of anyone. If Portugal knocks on the door, we'll have to kick their ass. Period.

I thought VdV-Sneijder-V.Persie played well together in the Andorra (ok hit me) qualifier.

But it was a good midfield of Landzaat-VdV-Sneijder in the Finland game.

Just to quote myself, this result was not too hard to predict. England can't beat Sweden. As easy as that. England did have a very good firt half though, where especially Cole outplayed his markers time after time. Sweden had a very good second half with very good corners and free kicks. I have never seen Sweden with such good corners.

It will be interesting to see Sweden-Germany on Saturday. This time I'm predicting a very tough game, where I believe both teams can win. Germany are favourites, but cannot be sure to beat this hard fighting Swedish team. Zlatan will probably be availible for this game as well, which gives coach Lagerbäck another option up front.

I'm not saying that this is per se a good sign(the more you win the closer you get to a loss...), but the Dutch results against Argentina thus far indicate that we rarely lose to them.

26-05-1974: Nederland-Argentinië 4-1 (fr)
26-06-1974: Nederland-Argentinië 4-0 (WC)
25-06-1978: Argentinië-Nederland 3-1 (WC)
22-05-1979: Nederland-Argentinië 0-0 (fr)
04-07-1998: Nederland-Argentinië 2-1 (WC)
31-03-1999: Nederland-Argentinië 1-1 (fr)
12-02-2003: Nederland-Argentinië 1-0 (fr)

I think that no matter the result, neither opponent poses as formidable a challenge for Oranje as the group matches have. Mexico is talented but coached by an utter wanker, and Portugal is good, but not great. If Holland play like they did in the first half of their first match, they should like their chances.

The question is: will they be able to play that way?

Mexico and Portugal will equally be tough opponents for Holland in the next round, but I'm specifically cheering for Holland to win today because...

IF they win today, and then IF they beat Mexico, it'll set-up quarterfinal match-ups of Holland-Germany (one of the biggest international rivalries on the planet, in a World Cup, in Germany... too sweet) and England-Argentina (hand of god, and assorted other past history). Those would be ideal scenarios for me. A loss or tie today for Holland and they would potentially play England in the quarters (IF they beat Portugal), which isn't nearly as interesting for me.

Still, they're looking the better team by some distance at the moment.

God is this Holland boring.... And seriously, we don't have a single good striker.
Van Nistelrooy is fucking transparent and Van Basten played Kuyt on the left.... I mean what the fuck... So Portugal it will be. Tough one again. Let's hope for a good result.

I didn't understand why Marco played Kujit on the left and v Persie on the right. I suppose because they could cut back and shoot? In any event, they didn't look that good.

And how did Jaliens get on the team? I didn't see the whole game, but from what I saw, he looked like crap.
