Hmm....depends who he's playing for perhaps ( ;) ).

Although "important match like the one with Liechtenstein" is very funny.

The (slightly) fuller story from Reuters........

Sweden draft in new players, Ibrahimovic apologises
STOCKHOLM, Sept 5 (Reuters)

Sweden have called up Teddy Lucic, Stefan Ishizaki and Fredrik Berglund for Wednesday's Euro 2008 qualifer against Liechtenstein, replacing Zlatan Ibrahimovic and two other players axed for staying out late.
The decision by coach Lars Lagerback to send home Inter Milan striker Ibrahimovic, as well as Aston Villa defender Olof Mellberg and Nantes midfielder Christian Wilhelmsson, created banner headlines in Swedish media.
One newspaper reported that the fiery Ibrahimovic had said he would refuse to play for the national side again, although he later told Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport that he was sorry for what happened.
"Personally I am very unhappy about the tense situation which has been created on the eve of an important match like the one with Liechtenstein," he told the newspaper.
"The reaction of coach Lagerback seemed exaggerated to me, but I accept his decisions and apologise for my lateness in going back to join the rest of the squad, (I apologise) to the coach, to my team mates and the Swedish Federation."
The Swedish soccer association said in a statement that Lagerback had drafted in Lucic of Swedish premier league side BK Hacken, Berglund of FC Copenhagen and Ishizaki of Elfsborg.
Sweden won their opening qualifier 1-0 against Latvia in Riga on Saturday with a Kim Kallstrom goal.

Intersting article on Kanu from the BBC website.

Kanu rejected Europe for Redknapp
By Julian Shea

Portsmouth striker Kanu chose playing for boss Harry Redknapp over the chance to compete in the Champions League.

Pompey are the Premiership pace-setters and Kanu, 30, says it was Redknapp who persuaded him to pick the south-coast club in August after he left West Brom.

He told BBC Sport: "I chose to play for Harry because I had heard so much from other people about playing for him.

"I had offers from Hamburg and from Spain but could see Portsmouth would do well and I wanted to be part of it."

We will keep our heads down and try to grab as many points as we can before we meet the big boys

After a career spent at Ajax, Inter Milan and Arsenal, the Nigerian admits life at The Hawthorns - and the new experience of a relegation battle - were a bit of a culture shock.

"When I signed with West Brom, it was like seeing another life," he said.

"Things aren't the same anymore but it's good because it means you taste a different life apart from the one you are used to and that makes you a better, stronger person, so you appreciate the good life."

Five years at Arsenal produced two FA Cup winner's medals and two Premiership titles but life at the other end of the Premiership with West Brom was more of a challenge.

Having left a club who had just been relegated, his decision to join Portsmouth, who had narrowly avoided the drop themselves, may have seemed a surprise.

But with a family settled in England, Kanu was not keen to move abroad - and once he knew Redknapp was interested in him, then the feeling was mutual.

"I had other clubs interested, so it was up to me to make the decision where to go, then suddenly I had Harry knocking at the door," revealed Kanu.

"Everyone knows him and everyone wants to play for him. I chose to play for Harry because I had heard so much from other people about him."

And his leap of faith has been rewarded in spectacular fashion, with Pompey top of the Premiership having won their first five games - during which time Kanu has scored four goals.

However, characteristically, Kanu is keeping his famously large feet on the ground.

"I don't think anybody would expect us to be first in the League but football is unpredictable," he said.

"We're not getting carried away, though, we're experienced, so we will keep our heads down and try to grab as many points as we can before we meet the big boys."

A key factor in Portsmouth's impressive start is their defensive tightness - which may well be explained by Redknapp's choice of assistant manager, Kanu's former Arsenal team-mate Tony Adams.

"Tony is a leader and wants to win, so he pushes people to work harder," stated Kanu.

"Having him around makes you work harder because he has achieved everything and we look up to him and want to do the same.

"He encourages everyone so for him to be part of the team is very important - and it's paying off."

But Kanu is keen to stress that their success is down to a team effort, largely because of the team spirit and feel-good factor Redknapp has engendered in his squad.

"The whole team is working very hard - it's not just the tight defence, it's the midfield and goalkeeper too," he said.

"Everybody wants to work for the manager. He encourages and appreciates players and knows their strengths and weaknesses.

"Whenever you are happy, you produce your best - and that is what Harry has given to the team."

Was watching the Roma-Inter yesterday trying to catch a glimpse of Zlatan, the game was almost over 1-0 Inter, when i saw a familiar face coming in as a sub, it was good old Maxwell, he played some 5-7 minutes and made a couple of typical runs down the left flank, i had almost forgotten abot this chap. Was nice see him again.

PD: Interesting too note, Chivu was the man marking Zlatan on every single corner or free kick.

1-0 was the final result.

Nostalgia...

Still, when Zlatan, Chivu and Maxwell are 90 years old, sitting in their rocking chairs, and their grandsons ask them "Grandpa, what's your favourite out of all the teams you ever played in?" - they will answer: "Well, my boy, that was the Ajax team with which we won the Dutch league in 2002, and rocked Europe the year after. That was one great group of lads! We really were mates. It was something special!"

At first: yes. It went wrong (between VDV and Zlatan, primarily) in 2004.

But in 2001-2002...? I watched quite a lot of Young Ajax home games at De Toekomst that season. In many cases I bumped into Zlatan, Mido, Chivu, Van der Meyde, Pasanen and others over there. They used to watch quite a lot of games together, and the team went out in Amsterdam quite regularly. That team totally clicked.

Van der Vaart was never there with them, but that's just because he's a bit of a boring fart, who prefers to sit at home and watch DVDs with his girlfriend.

Nwankwo Kanu said in the interview that he would like to come back to Ajax this summer. He said that both club and city have special place in his heart and he believes that his come-back is possible.

About one of the best gentlemen I've ever met at Ajax. Joey D of Geelong is off to a flying start with AZ, as this nice little article testifies:

Joey's Dutch courage

of course, the sting's in the tail. No worries, Joey, we love you anyway. Drinks on us when you come to the Arena (especially if it's before the game and you're starting). ;)

Itonically, you're posting this less than 36 hours after Joey sustained a concussion against PSV. He got a ball in his face and went down. He will be out for up to four weeks. He will - obviously - be back in time for AZ vs Ajax at the Amsterdam ArenA on Sunday 10 December.

I'm still doubting who I find the odder keeper, Didulica or Sinouh. I'm thinking Sinouh though, so I wouldn't mind if Didulica misses the game against Ajax.

Although he did not get a contract ex youth Evander Sno is now in the Dutch squad.

He left our youth set up at end of 2004/5 signed acontract with abunch of losers from Rotterdam and they loaned him out to NAC. He joined Celtic in the summer and is evidently only a sub there but is in the Dutch squad. And still only 19.

We might have erred in letting this lad go but had he stayed he would probably only have been in our reserves at present.

I quess that is one of the problems in having a large youth system, you cannot keep them all.

Exactly. And it is also a bit ridiculous that he is in the Holland squad, to be honest.
