Famous last words Ko, I really hope you're right but I can't help thinking of Zlatan especially here. At least Barca would be better than the basket cases at Real. Do we know what the man himself has to say on the subject?

Suárez is not so much "the new captain", but rather the "fourth man". If a colonel, a major and a captain are killed in action, you'll have to put a lieutenant in command of the division...

He received the 'Man of the Season' trophy after yesterday's game.

I can't think of anyone else who could have won it...

He may not 'stand out' as much as Suarez, but I think Vermaelan has had a decent season.

And Suarez has been named by Jol as captain for this year. I think that's the logical choice, although I'm not sure he's the best leader at times.

Seems like we've been in a hurry to sell whoever has the armband lately, so I hope that's not a sign of things either.

He is going to have to mature a bit but i think its an excellent oportunity for him....believe it or not he's our best player. This will give him some more motivation and if we do well he might stay a bit longer with us in the long run.

The most logical choice for captain .When he isn't diving , his play is absolutely stellar !! No problem with is competitiveness and skill as an example to his mates.

I've long thought he played better as captain. I'm very happy to see him have the armband.

It Would Be Fantastic To Play For Barcelona - Ajax Captain Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez has taken the opposite route to downplaying a link to Barcelona...

Ajax skipper Luis Suarez has not hidden his desire to join Barcelona after reports stated that coach Pep Guardiola is a big fan and could make a move for him.

The Uruguayan striker was delighted to be linked with the European champions and hailed them as the best club in the world.

Guardiola was reported to have received outstanding scouting reports on Suarez and watched him in action on video before Barca signed Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

So impressed was the Blaugrana trainer though that the Catalan daily sports paper believe that a bid could be made to Ajax for their forward in January or next summer.

"It gives me great pride. We are not talking about any club, we are talking of FC Barcelona, the best club in the world and the best team playing football today with Pep Guardiola," Suarez was quoted as saying by El Mundo Deportivo.

"It would be fantastic to play for Barcelona one day but for now all I have got is what you have written and nothing official from the club.

"So I'll keep quiet at Ajax, I am very happy here in Amsterdam and I still have three years of my contract.

"But, of course, I would love to see myself one day in Barcelona and as a Barcelona player."

Ajax must hold on to him until the summer . Surely they'll be able to find a forward AND A DEFENDER with the $$ they receive.

I seriously hope that Ajax use the absurd transfer fees paid out by Madrid as a starting point and ask for some silly amount of money ($50 million or so) for Suarez. I figure he should go for at least as much as KJH, which no team will pay - at least not in the winter.

Actually Barcelona is the one team that he could start for. Thierry Henry is pretty much finished and they are now starting Iniesta on the left forward position. An attacking line of Luis, Zlatan and Lionel would scare the heck out of any opponent. That being said, I think the asking price is likely to be €28 million which is more than we asked for KJH last winter. I'm not sure that there is any team around that will be able to pay that much given the current financial difficulties many teams are facing. Barca may be the only one and I'm not even certain they could do it.

From what we hear out of Ajax it would take an offer of 30m to let him go this winter.Barca may have that money but no one else this winter.
