Any updates on his progress back from injury? Has he started training yet and does anyone know when he might be match fit?
I don't believe I have seen anything recently.

I think he'll want his glasses back when he returns.

He resumed training (for the second time in a few weeks) yesterday. Koster expects him to be ready in several weeks, before Christmas.

I hope he stays around, but I think he'll probably move elsewhere (hopefully not to an Eredivisie rival), regardless I don't think it's looking all that good that he will be around for us next year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he and van Basten get along too well, and I don't see him sticking around to play to van Basten's discipline game. I would hope he retires rather than go anywhere else.
I think he'll still want to play so he will see his only option as to leave Ajax. I think he's still quite good. He's strong, quick, and has great vision and experience, which Ajax need. Look at his assist and delivery for Huntelaar's goal over the weekend.

Davids has talked to Martin van Geel. Van Geel told him: take all the time you think you need to make up your mind.
Ajax would like him to go on for another year ("He's 100% focused, as far as I can see, but he's the one who feels his own bopdy every day," Van Geel said in the press), but it's up to Ed.
We'll have to wait and see.

Personally, I'd like to see him stick around. He's one of my all-time favorite Ajacieden, and I think he can still contribute to the team.

Edgar Davids is leaving Ajax.
No surprise, but it's official now. See Ajax.nl.

"I cannot stay with Ajax at all cost."
I wonder what he means here...

He's very clearly referring to Marco van Basten's insult in 2006. Van Basten did not call up Davids for Oranje. A journalist asked him why not, and Van Basten said: "Because I'm not calling up Jan Wouters, either." (Wouters, at that point, was 46 years old and obviously no longer playing).
(Co Adriaanse said something similar about Winter and Witschge back in 2001, which was quite an affair as well... Both Adriaanse and Van Basten made their point in such a provocative manner because they were sick and tired of answering the same question a million times. Which doesn't mean it's an okay thing to say. I'm just explaining).
Anyway, Davids responded with an open letter in
Voetbal International. Peace was never signed and Davids doesn't want to play under Van Basten in the last year(s) of his career.

I knew there was a problem with Van Basten (not the 'Wouters anecdot' though), but I was also wondering if Ajax / MvB really wanted him to stay and offered him a decent contract...

It's a shame that they can't bury the hatchet for the good of the club. I can't see Marco going to Davids with a sincere apology or anything, and I'm not sure Davids would accept it in any event. Too much pride and ego on both sides.
Like I said, it's a shame. Davids is one of my all-time favorite Ajacieden, probably right after Marco, Cruijff and Bergkamp.
Goob bye, Edgar. You will be missed!

According to Ajax Netwerk Edgar Davids trained with L.A. Galaxy this week...
No idea what it means. Ruud Gullit said it doesn't mean a thing: Davids was just visiting, etc. Time will tell.
