Way to go Nigel. Enjoy your career in the Juve reserves, buddy. You've earned it.
Does anyone else think that some of these ego problems might be caused by the fact that de Jong, like several others, got an Oranje call up while still very young? Most kids that age have big heads -- getting called up to play for their country at that age must surely make their egos swell. It seems like many of these players peak way too soon after getting called up.
Anyone agree/disagree?

Probably doesn't help I'm sure, but also that ManUre and a whole load of other clubs were "interested" in signing the player.....All paper-talk stirred up by Agents of course but that sort of thing has gone to his head.
ManU and the other big teams must have how many scouts working for them across all the Eurpoean leagues. If they signed every player they were watching they would have a team of 1,000's......but of course that's not what the player hears and it goes from there.

I expressed my thoughts on young Ajax players being called up a few weeks ago. I think it has done alot of harm to pick them before they have hardly played a season. Babel and Maduro should never have even been in a squad let alone play internationals and Emanuelson has been in the squad too. Youngsters like this must think they have made it. Another young lad put in the national team before he was ready is Vlaar, so it is not just young Ajax lads.
Having played for the national team De Jong probably thinks he is ready for Man U or Juve, but plainly he is not .
West Ham have confirmed that they dropped their interest as they wanted him as a right back and he wants to play as a midfielder.
I think it sums him up that only moderate mid table teams have come in for him.

I agree, although I'm sure that plenty of clubs would take a flyer on him when he is available for free. A club lilke Inter would gladly pay a small amount for a reserves/bench player who would see the pitch for meaningless cup games and the occasional bit of spot duty.

If he is happy with that than so be it i've given up on this chap, who does he think he is?? Sad very sad this kid is going to sink to the bottom, im looking at another Bogarde story.

sky sports says dortmund are close
if that's the case, and he really thinks joining up with pienaar at BVB will be good for his career, then they can give us
delron buckley + 1 million euro and we'll be done with it
if he's not even playing, then go get somehting for him... this is so stupid, he should have already (and should still) re-sign

German league is rated slightly better than Dutch but unless you join Bayern Munich it is not a step up and I would say joining Dortmund is a step down as they are at best only going to be in UEFA cup as they have no money to buy any decent players. I know we may only be in UEFA next season but that will likely be a one off as the following season 3 teams from Holland will be in CL.
They are the only club in Germany who cannot afford to pay us any money in transfer fees.
De Jong can now join Pienaar in sitting out the rest of the season if he signs a contract with another club.I would not pick either as substitute.(Trabelsi can stay in our team until he signs for another club .)

Meanwhile, the Dutch press doesn't talk about Dortmund at all.
According to Johan Derksen (in the
Voetbal Insite talkshow on RTL5) De Jong is about to sign for Tottenham Hotspur. He has already had talks with Martin Jol and was about to sign yesterday evening. That didn't happen, but De Jong and Spurs are about to reach an agreement.
Newspaper
Algemeen Dagblad adds this morning that Spurs are still considering to buy De Jong immediately and that the talks will continue today.
Martin van Geel denies that Spurs have contacted Ajax, by the way.

It's going to be a day of decisions. According to the VI.nl website Ajax were talking to NAC in Breda (about Jenner) and to Spurs in London yesterday evening. According to the rumours Spurs want to land De Jong now. Who knows something will happen today...

I see the quote on our front page where he says he is fed up with being a yo-yo,if he has half a brain he will realise that is all he will be at Spurs.
As long as someone takes him this month I do not really care but it does make me laugh at some comments.

He will be a Jo-Jo wherever he goes because he's simply not great in any position, he's a good Midfielder,he's a good right back and an average defender but he is not great or special in any single position and for that matter will be used as a utility player not a starter :nooo:

Typical! Nothing happened yesterday, but we've lost a player, a young local lad, today! I wonder who Mr Blind is going to get to replace the aging face of the midfield. The clock is running..tick..tock..tick..tock..tick..tock..

I have to say good ridance!. He was a good player for us on his day but plainly didn't want to stay so why hold on to him. He will not get the glory he so obviously craves at HSV I don't think, nor will his ego be able to take playing for a lower profile team....oh well.

With his head as swelled as it is, he can float to Hamburg. That should save on airfare. At least it appears Ajax will get some $$ for him; so not a total loss.
