From ajax.nl "Ajax heeft met de 32-jarige Yannis Anastasiou overeenstemming bereikt over een contractverlenging van een jaar. Het nieuwe contract loopt tot en met 30 juni 2006."

I've just answered my own question, a year until 30th June 2006. (I'm rushing a bit - PC trouble and I'm in a "lovely" internet cafe for my regular Ajax fix)

That's still brilliant news though as far as I'm concerned. I've talked a lot about Yannnis so won't go on at length but I just help but admire his perseverence and 100% work rate.

I really like this move. The physical nature of football , and injuries as part of that, means that you never have enough players who can put the biscuit in the basket. In an era of I,I, and more I, it was nice to read about a team player, and genuinely nice guy, being rewarded. Definitely a great guy,as I found when I talked to him after his first Ajax practice in 2/2004(in the week between the Den Haag and PSV home matches).A great insurance policy.

I hate to bring up the issue of money, but , in Yannis's case, the re-signing was a natural. He is 32, still productive, a team player, mentor, knows the Ajax system, knows his place in the side, AND DOESN'T COST AN ARM AND A LEG.

Is there any chance to see Anastasiou play soon ? He was not even on the bench against feyvvvsord …

Seeing as they don't seem to rate him for the future I would say that it's a wiser choice to go with the two possibly long term strikers (Charisteas and Rosenberg (not o or u or any other letter for that matter)).

My guess is that we'll see Yannis when someone gets injured.

Okay - as a football fan one has the right to be a bit opportunistic...

Let's play Yannis from the start against Heracles. I kid you not: he was the best striker we've had in weeks. Seriously. The midfielders could pass the ball into his feet and he would actually hold it up, turn like a real #9 and do something useful with it. He was unmarked and in scoring position twice, but Boukhari overlooked/ignored him. To me, he simply did the business, which is more than Rosenberg could say.

So, if Chari is not ready for a return yet: Yannis to start, Rosenberg on the bench.

And now I'll just wait for SE6Ajacied's "told you so" posts...

I still think Babel deserves a chance. It's now clear he's nothing more then a fill-in option on the wing. He belongs in the centre. Yes, his form has been bad, but no worse than Rosenberg. He's being played out of position. Remember he did the business for a time last season.

So, Babel for striker.

I must admit Yannis was good against Sparta. Still not convinced he's anything more than a super-sub though.

I haven't actually seen yesterdays game yet although Eurogoals is about to come on Eurosport as we speak so should see the goals at least. Also, as from today I've finally caught up with the rest of the world too and I now have broadband :cheer: :eusa_dance: so I will be watching the highlights (should be "highlights" judging from what's on here).

I won't say "I told you so" as that's always bad form but it's nice to see Yannis coming on and doing the business. I've never claimed he was another Cruijff or anything, just that he was a dependable player who could still do a job for us. If nothing else, at least my "Anastasiou 17" shirt is not a complete disaster - it's now a genuine replica Eredivisie shirt.

Go Yannis!!!!!!!!!

I would've jumped on the possibility to give out a classic:

Hate to say I told you soooooooooooo :headbang:

But SE6Ajacied is such a humble person.

I say, play the guy that will do it best at the moment. Markus has had many chances now and needs to come on as sub for at least the next ten games. Yannis can play in my book, even if he's old and not "champion material".

And, we never gave you any hassle about that shirt, did we SE6?

Wow! I don't think I've been called humble before. I think I'm just being a realist. I just know that if I come over all high and mighty here I'll put a curse on Yannis who'll then play really sh*t and I'll get all the abuse back ten-fold.

It's true, no-one hassled me about the shirt but then it's so cool I'd just take the hassle as jealously that they really wanted one as well :D

Well, I'm jealous now! Is that you Philippe? It's 100% not me as I only have the home shirt with Yannis on it. AND of course, so far it's only the away shirt that is the genuine eredivisie replica! hmph

When my son asked for Anastasiou's name and number on his brand new away shirt, the shop keeper went "Hmmm... I will give the list of all the players". He thought that we were ignorant French guys who had picked the name at random. He was wrong. But how could he know that we were members of the Yannis International Fan Club ? ;)

Yannis is the perfect example of the Striker Ajax need, of course dont get me wrong here he is not the solution obviously but still he knows how to play with his butt towards goal, just goes to show you a slow, old, stiff player that knows and plays the ajax system to perfection is in the end a better option than a fast, skilled, technicaly gifted player that does not understand the system(Rosenberg  ).

Don't think that Rosenberg has any problem what-so-ever in understanding the system - he just cannot find his touch at the moment. Yannis controlled the ball and brought others into the play - Rosenberg's control especially in the first half was like a friggin pin ball cushion. At the moment the Greek gods are better options for the number nine position.

No. In Amsterdam. For sure. I think I recognize the exact place along Prinsengracht where it was taken...

Just a quick, direct question Philippe - how comes you were in Amsterdam and you didn't hook up with any of us? Now I can fully understand somebody avoiding me, but to miss out on meeting up with Ko and his gang ..................... you are really missing out on an experience of a lifetime :headbang:
