BTW, we beat PAOK in a friendly a couple of days back: 4-2. Hunts scored a nice headed goal for the 2nd.

I watched about 60 minutes of the Lyon match today. Ajax lost 2-0. I missed the Viergever own goal as I tuned in at the 20 minute mark. The second goal came at 80 minutes on a swift counter attack where Lyon had a 5 on 2 mismatch. The defense looked ill-organized at times during the match with Ajax players cocking up big time and they were lucky not to have conceded a couple of more goals. Dolberg hardly saw the ball at all. The really good thing is that the club was playing pretty strongly in the Lyon half in quite tight spaces and not losing the ball. I think not having to play with Klaassen who was always weak on the ball changes things. Schöne played the full 90 along with Ziyech and van de Beek. Kluivert was on the right wing with Younes on the left. Both were subbed off late in the match, Cassiera for Younes and Noa Lang for Kluivert. Ajax had only some weak shots on goal.

I don't rate this friendly at all given what the club has gone through in the last 10 days.

Thanks for update,I was out all yesterday and did not watch it. We are behind in our preparation due to the dreadful events of last week but I do think we should have bought in another LB by now.

We had a friendly v Hull yesterday at de Toekomst behind closed doors again.3-3 An OG ,Huntelaar, and de Jong the goals. We were 3-1 up but they scored 2 in the last 15 mins.

The starting line up was the 7 subs from Weds in Nice plus Cerny,Dijks and Jong Ajax Bergsma and Mazraoui.Cassierra replacing Mazraoui at HT.This was just a training game to give all the squad players game time.

The fact Zeefuik Dankerlui Bergsma Dijks are our cover at defence shows again we need to buy.

I hope you are right -- I only saw him in a couple of games (not live) last season, and I didn't think much of him. Still, maybe he has improved in the meantime -- we can only hope so.

Zeefuik is a decent talent I just posted the back 4 line up last night as they are the understudies!

Found it, Kaj Sierhuis, Noa Lang, Mitchel Bakker, Noussair Mazraoui, Dennis Johnsen & Leon Bergsma will join the first team on their trip to Portugal!

Although Leeuwenburgh and van Bladeren should be there

Full squad not yet confirmed,Alblas,Cassierra, Eiting and Zeefuik, also Jong squad, will go . We have 6 injured 1st teamers so only about 14 official first teamers are fit . Younes and Dijks may not go as both hope to be be sold.

Dijks is left out, looks like he is joining Younes on his way out

Despite the fact I am 410% settled with the opinion that Dijks has never been material for the first team or should have been picked for the youth academy at all in whichever age category.....

this is not very neat threathment to a home grown player.


Ajax Amateurs are doing better... winter training at Gran Canaria instead of Portugal. Oh well.... I had 20 degrees in Italy today so Portugal can perhaps be exactly as nice.

Didnt Dijks initially join Ajax at the age of 16? If so, can he really be counted as a home grown player? I only see players who joined Ajax under the age of 16 as home grown players.

Yes he joined late but plays already for the club since 2009. Almost 10 years a string to a club is long in modern football so you deserve at least human threatment.
But it also says a lot about our youth academy back in 2009. They just brought him in because he was big, not because he was talented.

Dijks is not good enough and we should have let him go last summer.He gives 100% and committed but thats not enough.

Training today and the full squad will be confirmed later but a hugh surprise 17 year old U19 MF Jurgen Ekkelenkamp is going.Dont think many people saw that happening but he is the leading scorer of any team in the first half of the season and is an attacking MF and not striker.

What most surprises me about Dijks is that he is not a central defender. He has good height, strength and decent enough quickness. AFAIK he was always a LB; was he ever tried out in the center? He is about the same size as Virgil van Dijk.

17 year old Jurgen Ekkelenkamp has been included in the squad travelling to Portugal. He is an attacking midfielder, he has done very well at the youth level. The wheels are rolling at the Ajax youth system, they are coming in thick and fast!

Agree but this is Ajax and youth is in the DNA of the club and the fans.

I could have told anyone at De Toekomst within 1,5 minutes during any training or friendly that Dijks would never be good enough for Ajax.
Dijks is a typical purchase from the Henk ten Cate / Adrie Koster / Marco van Basten period.


With incoming stuff like Eriksen, Viktor Fischer, Andre Onana, Dennis Johnson, Perr Schuurs and now Overmars getting approval from the 'board of control' for serious spending for guys from Colombia, Brazil and also Argentina we are better of now in this period than we were a decade ago.

Many employees at De Toekomst miss Dennis Bergkamp.... Edwin van der Sar never was widely accepted and is losing popularity so more internal riots to come.

Ajax needs a guy that can be bossy and clearly guides the club in one direction.

Richard Witschge has been added to the first team staff for next week’s training camp in Portugal.
This is good news.

As for Van der Sar, yes he needs to go, it would be perfect if Jordi Cruyff could take over.

homegrown in English football ? If you have spent 4 years in England between your 16th and 21 st birthday you are homegrown.Fosu-Mensah and Dilrosun will both be homegrown in England come this summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile Ajax take 28 to Portugal and 14 homegrown ie fairly local born and with Ajax before 16, some have been at local amateur clubs as young kids. Not counting Noa Lang ,he came from Feyenoord youth!

Dijks Younes and Wober included. Just V Leer,Dolberg,Cerny,Sinkgraven and Viergever not going due to injuries.

Game v Lyngby started 45 mins late as theer was no ref! Our strongest taem is out Tagliafico at LB and Frenkie in CD.

Wober will get some time in this game as he is sub. Younes not sub will play v Duisburg.


No stream but not bothered with watching friendlies they really are meaningless.
