Excelsior, a.k.a. F-Word Lite, are champions of the First Division and promoted to the Eredivisie. That is: semi-officially. With two more games to go, they are 6 points ahead of VVV-Venlo. Excelsior's goal-differential is +41, that of VVV-Venlo +18...

Next week it's Excelsior vs VVV-Venlo in Rotterdam. That's when it will be official.

Groningen drew overnight 2 - 2...table now looks like this:
Pos Team Pts
1 PSV Eindhoven 76
2 AZ Alkmaar 64
3 Feyenoord 63
4 Ajax 50
5 Heerenveen 49
6 Utrecht 49
7 FC Groningen 48

Still pretty close from 4th down...Heerenveen and Groningen have now played 1 game more than Ajax.

Oh, come on, can't we hope for about a 30-0 victory for Venlo? :D

For those interested in the 'TIFO aspects' of fan culture. Here's a little film of some Heerenveen fans that we know, working on their Frisian mega banner for the UEFA Cup home game against Steaua Bucharest:

We know some of these guys quite well. We're always welcome at their supporters' pub in Heerenveen when we're there, and a few of them were with us for Ajax - Inter. OPH, SE6 and Pizza 5 will know who I'm talking about.

Yeah, that's a cool little film. I remember saying Hi to those guys in St James Gate at the Inter game. Good banner as well, simple design for the small ones but so distinctively Heerenveen when they're finished :xyxthumbs:

The upcoming weekend can be the first real 'weekend of decisions' in Dutch football.

For starters: RBC Roosendaal play at home against PSV. If they lose their inevitable relegation will be official.

Also, if Willem II lose at ADO Den Haag they will be officially condemned to the promotion/relegation play-offs against the 'period champions' of the First Division.

The #16 of the table will also have to play promotion/relegation games. At the moment Sparta Rotterdam are 16th, but it's still open. Heracles Almelo, NAC Breda and ADO Den Haag must still worry.

At the top of the table PSV can grab the championship this weekend. If they beat RBC Roosendaal (thereby sending them to the First Division) and AZ drop points against NAC Breda it will be official. Otherwise, one point next week will seal it for them.

AZ and Feyenoord are already sure to qualify for the play-offs. They might trade places, but are sure to finish 2nd and 3rd.

The battle for the 4th and 5th places, however, is very very open. Utrecht and Ajax are currently 4th and 5th, but Groningen and Heerenveen are within striking range of the 5th spot.

As for the First Division: Excelsior are the 'semi-official' champions already. Tonight's home game against VVV-Venlo is a clash between #1 and #2 on the table, but VVV will have to win by 0-23 or more.

Volendam, AGOVV Apeldoorn, Haarlem, TOP Oss and Zwolle have already qualified for the promotion/relegation play-offs. The 6th team to qualify for those will be the highest placed side that did not win a 'period championship'. This will almost certainly be VVV-Venlo (#2). The only side that can still leapfrog them is Helmond Sport (#3).

Isn't TOP Oss the amateur side that went professional this season? The ones who totally messed up their first few games? Or is that some other team?

Ah, no, that was Omniworld from Almere. They're bottom... :D (and we have a partnership with them).
