Once again, Seedorf in the engine room of Milan's midfield, tirelessly running, covering every blade of grass on the pitch twice, supplying the killer pass over and over, tearing bayern's midfield to shreds, and no dutch call up? :nooo:

According to some news reports in England (i.e. rumors), Juventus has rejected an increased contract request from Ibrahimovic, and Chelsea (of course) are set to begin the bidding war with a 40M euro offer. Didn't Ajax sell him for about 18M euros?

Yes, but there's no way a big club like Chelsea is going to pay Ajax 40 millioen euros for one of our players. That doesn't happen in football. The transfers which carry the largest transfersum with them have always been between the big clubs.

The biggest transfer of a Dutch player out of Holland was Van Thuggeroy which was about £20m I think. Kezman , Robben were under £10m . Stam I think was about £10m.
I accept that Zlatan was not in the £20m class with us but I do think we should have got somewhere near £15m for him and not spread over 4 years.

Van Nistelrooij a thug? I don't think Ruud dishes it out any more than Bergkamp.

I agree with you that Ajax should have asked for a bit more but surely nothing near to 40 million euros. That's simply impossible.
The problem was that Zlatan really wanted to leave for his dreamclub Juventus and there were only a few days left before the closing of the transfermarket.

Yeah, but Bergie was/is a pretty big "thug"... ;)
Its funny actually, Dennis always comes across as this quiet/graceful footballer, then during a game he would do something stupid like stomp on someone as he went over them. Doesn't matter anyway, Dennis will be remembered as one of the greatest Dutch footballers of all time and possibly the best Arsenal footballer ever.
Its a pity he never came back for even a year or so. I would rank him behind Marco as my fav all time Dutch player. Living Legend

Some worrying news for footballers in general...
(former ajax keeper) Didulica faces jail term
www.theworldgame.com.au
Austria Vienna's Australian-born goalkeeper Joey Didulica has been charged by authorities for a foul tackle he committed last year, and faces the possibility of a three-year jail sentence.
The 28-year-old former Australian Institute of Sport student has been indicted for "inflicting serious bodily injuries by extreme negligence" during a challenge on Axel Lawaree, which broke the Rapid Vienna player's nose in May 2005.
Didulica served an eight-match ban for the incident, but is now staring at the maximum jail term this latest charge carries; three years.
John Didulica, Joey's brother and the chief executive of Australia's Professional Footballers Addociation, commented that his younger sibling was being dealt with unceremoniously and the charge set a dangerous precedent.
"If this establishes a precedent, it will completely change the way tackles in the game are dealt with," he told The Daily Telegraph.
"This is a hugely disappointing thing to happen to any professional footballer."
"Joey's focus is on his football. He's got the World Cup this year and can't afford to be distracted."
Joey Didulica is a senior international for Croatia and will be hoping to beat this charge, which could potentially ruin his dream of representing his adopted nation at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
Ironically for the Melbourne-born gloveman, Croatia has been drawn in the same group as Australia.

it's a pity. I would love ajax bringing him back if he is really 100% fit.
never forget he was voted best players of the 1st round of last WC, he is versatile and could be useful to ajax..good luck anyway..

I wish him well. He is a class player and a great guy. He is too good to be playing in MLS. As much as I'm a booster of MLS, I hope he gets (and stays) healthy and returns to Europe, preferably back with Ajax. Imagine having him and Emanuelson on the left flank.

wasn't sure where to post this, but he was an ex player...
I was watching the stream of studio sport and on this they had a topic of who had a plus and minus for the week in regards to players for the Oranje WC squad. They had a plus for van Basten. It looked like he was playing in a friendly for Milan against Barca.
1st up...What a great goal (header)
2nd...what was the game for?
It looked to be recent (the tops for milan and van bronky was playing for barca for example), but I could only understand about 70% of the Dutch, so wasn't sure I missed something.
If only van Basten had been able to keep playing...man what a goal X'C

The game was for Demetrio Albertini (Barcelona), who is putting a stop to his professional football career.

As said, it was a testamonial for Albertini. But what a great game to catch on a lazy Tuesday night channel surf! I watched the whole thing and loved every minute. Anyone who followed European games in the 90s would love the first half. Seeing Albertini, Baresi, Costacurta and Maldini in front of Rossi with Gullit, Van Basten, Papin, Weah, Donadoni, Boban and Simone to name a few up front was just awesome. Barcalona fielded a bunch of starts from the 90s too with Laudrup standing out with some nices passes. He looked like the most fit player of the first half. Albertini put a real great freekick in the net behind Zubizarreta. Basten's header was classis. For the second half most of the current players were fielded. at the very end they brought on Deco, Ronaldinho etc. It turned out to be quite a descent scrimmage and a nice prelude to the upcoming games in the CL.

John Nieuwenburg signed a two-year deal at Helmond Sport today.
This dude (25 years of age now) joined Ajax in the summer of 1999. He was one of the best players at Sparta Rotterdam and a starter for the Young Oranje team. When he joined Ajax a good career seemed ahead for him, but a horrific knee injury basically f*cked things up for him.
He left Ajax through the backdoor and is playing for FC Dordrecht now. Helmond Sport is a step higher up, but still... First Division in Holland... He must have expected a different career at some point.

According to VI.nl Cristian Chivu is almost sure to leave AS Roma in the summer. The former Ajax captain (25) played there for three seasons. According to rumours he is already talking to Real Madrid, but FC Barcelona and AC Milan also want him.
The reported transfer fee to be paid for the Romanian defender: 20 million euros (he left Ajax for 18 million).
