This is actually not a joke. It's real. Just happened to me, on the phone to the helpdesk of my internet service provider (UPC).

Helpdesk guy: "... Now press 'menu' and then go for option [blah-blah, this or that]."
- I don't have that option, I think...
"Right. Let me just check what type of media box you have... Ah, there you have it: you have a very old one. It's pretty ancient, three generations old. We have a much better box now. I'll send you one straight away."
- Okay...
"Hang on, there something else... Your type of subscription no longer exists. Your package of digital televison, digital phone and internet now includes a bunch of extra things and we gave it a new name. The new package is 5 euros/month cheaper than the old package you're still paying for."
- Cheaper? When did that happen?
"Let me see... In 2010."
- Pardon? UPC never informed me. You kept booking the old fee off of my bank account.
"That's correct, Sir. The news about the new packages was on http://www.upc.nl, though. You could have read it there. It also said that you had to contact us if you wanted to switch to the new, cheaper equivalent of your package."
- Question. What if the monthly price for my package goes up? That would appear on my invoice automatically, right?
"Yes, that's correct. We will let you know if prices go up."

This is how the conversation went. No shit. He just said it, right there. Would have been funny if it wasn't such a disgrace.
