I thought he got a bad rap for conceding the goal in the U-21 game against Italy. If I recall correctly he plays on the right side of the central defense. I guess the team really thinks that Alderwiereld is going this summer and that maybe Veltman is not physically big enough for the job. Interesting signing in any event.

you are right it was his fault in the U21 v Italy but he is only 20 and still learning. Toby probably going to leave sooner rather than later and Liverpool is the latest rumour .

Plus he will now learn from Jaap Stam about how to play good defense!

Yes! Excelent for Ajax. Not so excelent for Boerrigter, Sana and Lukoki. But let's face it, they had their chance. Lukoki lacks depth in his game, Boerrigter hasn't been the same after his injury and even though Sana has shown potential, I don't think he can be yet relied upon to be constantly good enough to be in the starting 11. Fischer, Siggy and Bojan backed up by a motivated Eriksen, not bad. Number four here we come.

I think he can play both, but i would think he would fit in better as a winger. He's right footed and we've had some trouble finding a good right winger since Suarez (though his role was quite free and he played as a forward too) and maybe Rommedahl.

Not sure about the lenght of the contract with Barca but there is a option for a second loan season.

So Ajax sign a defender and a forward. Yet the most important type of player they need is a commanding midfielder. I would like to see Johnny Heitinga back at Ajax, although that isnt realistic. I dont want a Poulsen type of player, who can only do well in league games.

Heitinga's play has gone down hill so fast. His last good game was the WC final against Spain. IMO he is a spent player and not worth of bringing back.

Great signing and its costing us 1m euros. His Barca contract runs to 2015 and we have the option of a2nd year loan. I imagine he will be used at right wing.

To say nothing of the fact that after the foul way he played vs.Spain, I never want to see him in an Ajax shirt again. (re. Orange 14's Hetinga remarks)

Wow - what a couple of great signings! van der Hoorn will be a huge improvement over Toby and at 1.9 m can address Ajax's aerial defensive deficiencies. A big nasty CB in the Jaap Stam mold. And Bojan Krkic' - didn't even allow myself the hope that this rumor would be anything more than that. Never actually seen him play but a great pedigree, having played for Barcelona, Roma and Milan. Nice job Overmars! Wow.

I didn't pay close attention to van der Hoorn this past season but saying that he's a huge improvement over Toby seems like a bold statement.

Right now the only improvement that can be stated with any degree of accuracy is that Van der Hoorn is bigger and stronger than Toby and that's about it.

All I remember of him is his hilarious own goal and the mistake against Italy. I trust FdB has done more research than I have ;)

Another Dane signed 16 year old attacking midfielder Markus Bay is being signed from Brondby where he has a contract so we will be paying a fee. Assume for 3 years but not officially confirmed.

The 16 year old Dane Markus Bay officially joined today and signed a 3 year contract to June 2016 . The final youth to be signed this week is the Nigerian winger Moses Daddy Simon who is evidently 18 today.

Toby was an integral piece on a 3x champion defense and had a hand in glove partnership with Vertonghen and then Moisander. Until Mike van der Hoorn plays in our system that well , I'll withhold judgment . That said , he's tall (you can't teach height), started on a tough to play against outfit , and will get the benefit of improving his game under the tutelage of Jaap Stam .
