Thats good then, if it is true ko. becasue for me last night's win against Feyenoord was the exception not the rule. We've been poor all season, a shadow of what we can be, and Blind is to blame in my opinion. So i am still praying he leaves the club.

I can not agree : if we eliminate fey@rd and AZ (or Groningen), and then win the Cup final by beating p$v, then Blind will have achieved something.
Better Danny Blind than a "more experienced" coach (like R.Koeman was) who will screw the Ajax system.
We will see.

I accept that Phillipe, but he has been coach for a long time now and a club like Ajax should qualify for the champions league. For a club like Ajax winning the playoffs isnt a great achievement. I may be wrong of course, and Danny blind might win the league at a canter next season and take us to the semi finals of the champions league. but i dont think he ever will. Louis van gaal should be coach. I agree about Koeman, he wasnt right either, but i think he was better than Danny Blind.

That is true, but to me it's not the most important point in judging a coach.
What I want is that the team plays well and actually shows signs of improvement. I want a coach to have a plan and to steadily make the team a better team.
That is why I think Blind has failed. He's been in charge for well over a year now. He had the chance two work with the team in the last months of last season, then he had a whole summer to buy the players he wanted to buy and then he started the new season saying that this team was good enough.
And what happened? It was the most disastrous season in 41 years and there has been absolutely no improvement at all. I think he should be held responsible for that - and two wins over Feyenoord in the play-offs can't change that. It's about the whole picture, over a whole season, and that picture is not satisfying.

I am not so sure about that, otherwise I could agree with you.

He also had to do with a full team of players who knew that they would leave Ajax at season's end. I'm not sure it helped him and the team.
I could blame Blind for 2 things : the "Escude affair" and the way he handled the ineffectiveness of his forwards. I mean : at the beginning of the season, the team played rather well, but failed scoring. Then I think he started to change his team for each game in order to find the good combination to score goals. He didn't succeed in that (btw, maybe it's the better thing of the season cause now we have the best striker of the Eredivisie. Imagine if he had returned to PSV... X'C ), but the team began to play poorly...
I don't know what he sould have done at this moment, but a more experienced coach would have probably be better, and he would have recovered from this faster.
So I'm OK to get a new coach, but only if he is a lot more experienced than Blind, otherwise I prefer to keep Blind.
We're speaking a lot of Henk ten Cate. According to El Mundo Deportivo, he told Barcelona that he will leave at season's end to coach an Eredivisie top team. Ajax or PSV, we don't know. I must say I don't know him. I've read he trained teams like NAC or Vitesse. Was he good and would he be a good replacement for Blind ?

 Thats true i heard Luis Omar Tapia ( The Johan Derksen in Latin America if you will) say the same thing during the Milan-Barca game.

The thing is Ajax played really well in the play offs against feyenoord and if they do the same against AZ Alkmaar and then PSV Eindhoven, the board might start to become disillusioned with Danny Blind and may keep him. Btw rumours are that Huub Stevens could sign for PSV Eindhoven

Van Basten?

Any chance Marco coaches Ajax next year? I don't think it's been written anywhere but win or lose, I would think he'd quit Oranje after the WC...so why not come home?

I doubt it very much.
Van Basten's intention is to take Oranje to the Euro in 2008.

That depends on what happens at the World Cup. If he fucks up the media won't take long to turn on him. Just look at how they treated Advocaat at Euro 2004.
Still, I wouldn't want Van Basten as manager. What experience does he have with club management? None. We need somebody who knows what they are doing from Day 1. The Ajax 1 job isn't some kind of management internship for ex-footballers.

Happy to celebrate, but I really think we are still playing like shit. Fword should and could have scored 7 against us, our defense is still poor and we can't pass or hang on to the ball to save our lives.
If we go into Europe (CL) with the same tactics we will be destroyed yet again.
Truth be told, we didnt really show improvement in these 2 games. The last 4 games we have played we could have easily lost.
But I am so glad we kicked fwords butt. Bring on our DVDs!!!
Blind should still go. Happy for him to prove me wrong though.

Hmmm... I must say I disagree with you here. I am the first to admit that Ajax still aren't great, but I don't think we could as well have lost these two games against Feyenoord. They had their chances, okay, but I think we stuffed them in a pretty convincing way over-all. I mean: 7-2 on aggregate... you can hardly call that lucky.
I think Ajax
did show something that we did not get to see during the season, namely determination. You could tell that they wanted this really badly - and they pulled it off. I
do think these games were a leap forward.

Dont want to sound rude but what game were you watching. Apart from the 2 obvious misses by Kalou in first and second half, Feyenoord never really had that many clear cut chances, mostly half chances. In addition Roenberg hit the post, Rosales had a great chance in first half and Huntelaar had a good chance in 2nd half.
Feyenoord got what they deserved - an absolute humping.
Thought the defence was not that bad considering that the pressure was on Feyenoord to attack - they cleared the ball when required which I am happy enough with.

Hey no problems. I am man enough to admit I might have made a hasty call (can I be excused? I did write it up pretty late in the night here

Also, I had to watch it with the American commentry - for a while I didn't even realise it was Ajax playing - Skelkenburg in goal?).
I just watched the game again and withdraw (partly) my comments above. We were the much better team apart from the first 20min or so.
I am still not happy with our overall perfermance. I think our defense was found wanting again a few times, but you cannot knock a 7-2 agg win now can you? Our 3rd goal was an outstanding piece of team work. Maybe even our goal of the season. 8 passes from the back then a touch for goal. Beautiful.
I still think we are just not clicking well, but as Ko mentioned above, we did show determination which we have been missing for most of the season.
I am still not convinced Blind is our man, but again, I am happy for him to prove me wrong.
Finally - How can I be negative at all??? We just kicked Fwords arse and thats something worth releasing a DVD for :D

After the game the supporters in the away section chanted Danny Blind's name for minutes. That's when the above picture was taken. Blind was very emotional about it. He was interviewed on TV and behind his back the fans kept chanting his name. He almost started crying and had to stop the interview. Quite moving...

The question still remains.....will Blind stay or leave, i think it depends on the remaining three games if we thrash Groningen at home and go through and then beat PSV, he has hope of staying, and maybe, dare i say it, its for the best....

If Blind successfuly takes Ajax to CL this season, and assuming he wont lead Ajax to another dissapointing season, then I think he'll stay for one more season, unless he wins the Eredivisie or something and gets an extension.

Of course I want the man who let Escudé leave by the backdoor to Sevilla out as soon as possible, and nothing will make me forget about that season, where we were absolutely abysmally shit.
Let's find a good and experienced replacement for Blind.

Ofocurse Blind wasnt the best coach we had, but I think its unfair to say he "lead us to our worst" season.
With this new play off system, becoming 2nd or 4th doesn't mean anything. Unless you got first you could say he did well, and if he got out of CL play off spot than hes bad. This isnt the same regular season, so comparing the performances isnt an accurate account of Blind's managing this season respectivly.
