Okay, I admit: I totally forgot about Atlético's home game on Monday evening.

It was a piece of cake for them, against Sporting Gijón. No Primera Division football this weekend (internationals). A considerably tougher job lies ahead for Atlético on matchday 2: Athletic Club (a.k.a. Athletic Bilbao) away!

Athletic Bilbao away... Not an easy one, you'd say, but Atlético Madrid did the business and left Bilbao with three points and the Helmond Cup still in their luggage. Forlan (10') and Tiago (79') scored for Atlético; Llorente's consolation goal (88') came too late.

Next up: a trip to Greece, for an Europa League fixture!

Well the Cup is off to yet another new country as Aris Salonika defeats Athletico Madrid 1-0 in the Europa League!

That's right, ladies and gentlemen, the Helmond Cup has left Spain again. Aris Thessaloniki - Atlético Madrid: 1-0.

Question is: is that a surprise? Yes and no. Atlético were the clear favourites for this fixture. They're the holders of the Europa League trophy and the European Super Cup, and they have a few World Cup stars in their team, including of course Diego Forlan.

But... Aris played 22 home matches in UEFA competition and never lost.

Anyways: the next Helmond Cup fixture is a fixture in the Superleague Greece. The Helmond Cup is now firmly in the hands of (check this out, here we go) Άρης, Θεός του πολέμου. Aris, the God of War. That's right.

Now you have fallen in the evil clutches of the Greek Superleague, where presidents and referees are controling the game. OK it may sound a bit ugy but its more or less true. Hell, you might be stuck in here for half a year, in case Aris doesnt lose to a team like AEK, Panathinaikos or Paok. Good team though and hopefully we see more of them. And get a couple of lessons from their approach against a team of Atletico caliber....

Oh dear, oh dear... Aris Thessaloniki have lost the Helmond Cup already.

'The Panthers', Panionios, have lost the Helmond Cup again. Just like Aris Thessaloniki they had it in their possession for only one match.

The new Helmond Cup holders are, not totally surprisingly, the great Panathinaikos, who represent Greece in the Champions League. Their next fixture is a Champions League game, in fact. The Helmond Cup on its way to Denmark...? You never know!

Do PAO still play at Leoforos?

Its a comedy. They want to built their own stadium and have problems with Athens' municipality and the Greek goverment. So they use OAKA stadium the stadium that milan played liverpool in 2007. But this summer the pitch was awful and they played a couple of games in Leoforos. Now it is closed again

Does AEK still use OAKA? If I recall correctly, that's where they went after the Olympics.

I really like Leoforos. It may be old, but the stands are close to the action and it's got a lot of character.

Stadiums with running tracks are generally not very good places to watch games imo. OAKA is a nice stadium for athletics (I saw some Olympic events there) but I can't imagine it's a great place to watch a game.

You are 100% right! It's not a good place to watch football. But then again with alla the bureaucracy its very hard to build a new stadium. plus the high costs

FC København will keep the Helmond Cup longer than any of the Greek clubs in recent weeks: they beat Randers FC yesterday evening (1-0) and the next game is in two weeks' time (weekend of internationals coming up). Next league game: at home against Odense Boldklub, knows as Odense BK or simply OB.
