That was the point I was trying to make -- I guess I wasn't too clear. Not having a few seasoned veterans to steady the ship is the reason they panic at the end of the game and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Not having players who go at the game with passion and fire is the reason joke teams like Stoke steamroll them.

I'm happy with Ajax setting league and cup success as their measuring stick . There will always be seasons where the beloved Rood en Wit ride the lightning for a european run . They've been part and parcel of Ajax history in the Eredivisie. Without the league or cup success , european runs don't happen.

To my choice for club composition . I'd like a nice mix of Ajax - raised youth, surgical signings for genuine need , including a talented vet or two; like a Marko Pantelic or a Yannis Anastasiou...money permitting .

Don't know much about him but, assuming he's any good it would be great for Ajax to sign an English player.

There's a bit of a non-story on vi.nl about Hedwiges Maduro "possibly" returning to Ajax. I mis-read it as him saying he wanted to return but the translation was along the lines that he was happy at Valenica though his contract expires next year and the club have some financial difficulties so he'd be happy to return if asked.

Valencia are in financial difficulty because of the new stadium they are trying to build. It's coming in way over budget and they are on the hook for the cost. It's one of the reasons they sold both Villa and Silva last summer after the WC; they needed cash. If Maduro comes back it should only be as a central defender; I don't think we need him as a midfielder.

To go back to the Janssen issue, it would be like Arsenal buying Gareth Barry, decent left foot, nothing special. A 30+ Englishman who, although a good player would probably stifle 1 or 2 youngsters development. I seriously hope Ajax do not buy him. If they have to buy a midfielder buy Schaars or as I have said before, Steven Defour (ooh rhymes).

Or if you want a free kick specialist with a good engine and good passing range I´m sure David Beckham is out of contract now!!

rjf please don´t refer to Stoke as a joke team, they are an established premier league team. Hard working and maybe sometimes not pretty but its effective. The reason teams like Stoke turn over the ´bigger teams´ is because they work hard for it. Arsenal players do not like the physical side of the game and I´m sorry but that is English football and Stoke are a ´real´English football team and will shock some in the Europa League next year.

Dude, please watch a Stoke match once in a while, don´t make stupid comments about them being ´bottom of the barrel´when they clearly are not! I watch Stoke on a regular basis because my family support them. They play decent football at times and your theory about them is clearly drawn from not watching them play or listening to various Wengerisms!! And if you knew the stats of goals from throws you would realise your false analysis of Stoke´s play. 8 in the first season, 5 last season and 5 this season, most goals are created by good wing play. Something Ajax fans should know very well.

anyway I don´t want to be drawn into an argument with you about the merits of another team, this is about Ajax not Stoke!

I think most people would say that Stoke have evolved significantly since they got promoted playing a variety to styles dependant on the opponent and have more to them now than your stereotyped desciption "rjf1".

Isn't he scheduled for some knee surgery? It looks like we sign him for two years and I have my doubts that he remains healthy for the entire period. I still don't like this decision.

Thulani Serero a 21 year old attacking midfielder from Ajax CT has signed for 4 years and the reports says we have paid a transfer fee (the guys on our dutch section reckon between 2 and 3 million)but of course we own 51 % of Ajax CT .

I want to see Chivu and Boulahrouz at Ajax, even if Van der Wiel stays, and I know Alderwiereld's position may be compromised, but hey there will be injuries and suspensions, and believe me Alderwiereld is injury prone. As for another player, Im hoping Ajax can get Elia, he has good experience, good world cup experience. If Ajax sign him, along with Boerrigter, then Ajax dont need to sign a striker. janssen would not take lodeiro minutes... he will mostly take enoh minutes

I think the question was about Serero, not Janssen...

It was certainly about Serero not Janssen!

I know he is probably out of our price range but Nicklaus Bendtner said that he wants out of Arsenal because of lack of playing time. It would be great to unite him and Eriksen if only for a season or two. Certainly would solve our striker issues and Bendtner would get guaranteed CL football for at least one season.

Orange it is hard, as of course you already know to do something like that. The Hunter would be a great return now that Schalke has financial troubles. But not happening either.
