Ummm... I wouldn't say that.

Our very last visit to Scotland was for a friendly against Celtic (July 2002) nd we played 'em off the park: 1-3.

In August 2002 (CL qualifiers) Celtic stuffed us in Amsterdam, but we did very well at Celtic Park: 0-1, which was their first European home defeat in years.

Last time before that was the CL group phase in the fall of 1996: a whopping 4-1 win at home (two goals by Dani), followed by a hard-fought buit vital 0-1 win at Ibrox.

Longer ago we lost 1-0 at Celtic Park (March 1971), but we had already won 3-0 at home.

January 1973: two wins over Rangers (1-3 at Ibrox, 3-2 at home).

September 1982: elimination by Celtic, but they beat us in Amsterdam (1-2), not in Scotland (2-2).

So, we have a 100% score against Rangers (4 games, 4 wins). Out of the three times we played Celtic they eliminated us twice, but on both occasions the result in Scotland was good. Ajax played five official games in UEFA competition on Scottish soil: 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat (must be said that one of those wins didn't help, but on the other hand the only defeat didn't hurt).

That's not too bad, I would say.

We never played any other Scottish clubs in UEFA competition than the Old Firm clubs, by the way. Hearts would be nice.

and someone called me "statto" a while back :D  Nice little history Ko, I was thinking about the agregate results, particularly against Celtic, but as you say, our record in Scotland has been OK.

Heats would be nice though, the beer is good up there as well.

Here are the UEFA co-efficients for the coming CL season -

1 Barcelona (Spa) 127.0pts, 2 Real Madrid (Spa) 120.0, 3 Inter Milan (Ita) 112.0+, 4 Liverpool (Eng) 105.9*, 5 Arsenal (Eng) 101.9*, 6 Man Utd (Eng) 100.9, 7 Valencia (Spa) 95.0*, 8 Lyon (Fra) 89.7.

Second seeds: 9 Porto (Por) 87.5, 10 PSV Eindhoven (Hol) 81.6, 11 Bayern Munich (Ger) 80.9, 12 Chelsea (Eng) 79.9, 13 Roma (Ita) 76.0+, 14 Ajax (Hol) 60.6*, 15 Celtic (Sco) 60.0, 16 Lille (Fra) 54.7.

Others: 40 Hearts (Sco) 20.0; 64 Cork City (Irl) 1.4, 68 Linfield (NIr) 0.77, 69 The New Saints FC (Wal) 0.77.

That's great news - we're in the 2nd group again.

Yeah. Is that only because Juventus and Milan are out of the competition? Or would we have been in pot 2 anyway?

It's great news, especially because I think we're going to the business in Europe this year (not necessarily in the CL, by the way). We're going to grab points in one competition or the other and 'take root' in pot 2.

Last year when also juve and milan were in the competiton, We were in pot 2. so I guess that was in any case.

Yeah, but our position in pot 2 is still a bit shaky, I think... We need a few surprises: big teams that don't make it, smaller teams that finish in the top 4 of their countries (Osasuna, etc.).

Our position in pot 2 does not feel 100% 'natural'. If we do well this year, we might settle ourselves in pot 2 'permanently' (which it never is, of course, but you know what I mean).

I agree. I was 'happily' surprised with our position. It's the same as last year when we sneaked in as the 16th seed.

We would've been 16th again this year if it wasn't for our favourite clubs (NOT) - Juve & Milan deciding to drop out.

Okay peeps... Ajax Netwerk published a list of the opponents we can bump into in the third preliminary round of the Champions League. The draw is on Friday, but the return legs of the second round will be played next (mid)week. There is, in other words, a fair chance that we won't know the opponent yet on Friday (it was the same last year, when Brøndby and Dinamo Tblisi still had to play their second leg when Ajax came out of the bowl as their next opponent.

Here's the list of unseeded teams we may be paired with...

Fenerbahçe or B36 (first leg: 4-0)
Austria Vienna
Osasuna
Chievo Verona
Sheriff Tiraspol or Spartak Moscow (1-1)
Ekranas or Dinamo Zagreb (1-4)
Cork or Red Star Belgrade (0-1)
Heart of Midlothian or Široki Brijeg (3-0)
Maccabi Haifa
Standard Liege
FC Copenhagen or MyPa (2-0)
Hafnarfjördur or Legia Warsaw (0-1)
Debrecen or Rabotnicki (1-1)
Mladá Boleslav or Vålerenga (3-1)
FC Zürich or Austria Salzburg (2-1)
Djurgårdens IF or Ružomberok (1-0)

I would quite fancy Hearts, to be honest...

Its

Kobenhaven/MYPA vs Ajax

So not a bad draw after all - Looks like being Danes once again unless the Finns can overturn a 2-0 defecit

Safe bet it'll be FCK. They beat MyPa 2-0 in the first leg. They will survive in Finland, I reckon.

Grønkjær and Bergdølmo play for them these days.

Not the best draw; not the worst. This should be done, just like Brøndby last season (what is that thing we have with Danish sides...?).

Could be better... FC Copenhagen is not easy team to beat. Ajax cannot underestimate them. It will be nice to see former Ajacieden in their squad ;) .

Now Ajax-fans will finally not be blinded by team colours and see and realize what a truly shit player Gronkjaer is.

Lets hope you're right, Steef. :xyxthumbs:

Marcus Allbäck and Fredrik Berglund (former Roda JC) also play for FC Kopenhagen. One of their strikers, Santos, is leaving for Sochaux on the first of august.

As a sidenote, MyPa-47 was one of Jari Litmanen's first clubs.

It is a very good starting point for our team, it wont be easy by any means and to tell you the truth i would have been scared shitless if it wasnt for one simple name: STAM.
In rescent seasons we have lacked a physical presence in our defense, that fact has gotten us into trouble against strong physical teams (Brondby,Grazer etc) but now with "The Mummy" we finally have just that.
Ad to that a goal scoring maniac who can score with his eyes closed(KJH) and a left winged Dane who will probably be pumped for the away leg (Perez) and you can see that we will be just fine.

Although i would have liked to see this team(FCK) eliminating the likes of Milan or Chievo from the champs league and getting to the group stage. But oh well... guess we'll just have to whoop'em

 Maybe I'm stupid, but Gronkjaer used to be one of my favourite players. I really wanted to have him back in Ajax when he was for sale a few months ago...
