a report today says we have failed in a first bid for him, and that h'veen have made a dost counteroffer

i really hope we can do something with Dost before the end of tomorrow, I think he'd really be an asset.

i'd rather spend the extra money for van wolfswinkel, who is better and will eventually sell for far more

negotiations for bas dost are breaking down as well. heerenveen are asking 6 millions, which is complete bs since they have paid 3.2 for him and he hasn't done much since coming over to justify the 2.6 million increase. the usual story of another club trying to milk us now that we have some cash to spend. this probably opens the door for gudjohnsen...

I would rather see them bank the money. At this point, it will be a real challenge to overtake Twente and PSV without help from other clubs and we clearly haven't seen this happen this season. Twente are away at Utrecht next week and we will see what happens. Without CL football, the finances take a hit. We will make some money from the Stekelenberg transfer, but I would be surprised if it's €10M since goalkeepers don't generally command high fees.

^^^ This. Even with Luis misfiring we have a very good offensive record, so I don't see any reason to splash out too much money for a replacement. Let's just focus on the youth and developing the team's cohesion.

Dost has filed a case against Heerenveen at the arbitration committee (planned for tomorrow).

With El Ham now fit I would rather keep the money until the summer. Do not want to see us pay over the odds for Dost . Anything over 4m euros and we should tell them no.

I'd rather us keep the money if we're gonna get shafted with prices of players. Especially if we can double it or more with a couple of inevitable sales in the summer (Vertonghen, VdW, Steeks).

On the other hand, if we can add some extra firepower and put Twente and PSV under some pressure, one, or both will crack. They're both fallable and prone to dropping to the 'smaller' teams.

i disagree completely for 3 reasons:

1 - did you see psv friday without afellay? good grief... they will fall, do not worry... twente is our concern

2 - since when do we surrender titles (having not had one since 2004, no less) when we are essentially six points back with 13 games left? :/ we were further back in 2004 and we always close seasons very strong

3 - don't forget the europa league

we need one, if not two players NOW... im not saying go wild spending, but we can certainly manage a pair of new contributors, even on loan

Assuming we beat both Twente and PSV and that they draw we end up even on points with Twente and one behind PSV which is why help is needed. de Boer needs to keep the club focused on this and follow the tried and true sports axiom, "play the games one at a time."

My issue with bringing anyone new in is the message it sends to the young players who are now starting for us, that the club essentially does not trust them. We still have Lodeiro coming back to good health and he needs to be evaluated for how he can contribute. Is Bas Dost the next KJH? If so, we should snap him up. I think you are partial to Jozy Altidore and he could be an option since he really doesn't see any match time for Villareal except in cup matches. Striker is the one position we could use someone to help out.

yes, I would gladly take jozy on loan, but i prefer to buy van wolfswinkel above anything else... and the young players surely realize that we just sold the talisman, who needs to be replaced somehow, and we have only one reliable proper striker

as for lodeiro, id love to see him fit, but ill believe it when it happens

Update on the Bas Dost case:

He lost the arbitration hearing, so Heerenveen won't be forced to sell him. Telegraaf is reporting, though, that he is undergoing a physical at Ajax in the case that Ajax decide to spend 7M Euros on the transfer.

Seems a bit high, especially if he doesn't end up working out.

7m for Dost is just crazy i think, El Ham was 5m and managed to score quite a number of goals (though he was quite invisible for some games).

It's just as always - our scouting department is doing nothing except watching some Eredivise games.
