Totally agree with this. He was supposed to be the replacement for KJH, only Liverpool offered a sick amount of money and Ajax couldn't refuse. I think someone on the board even said as much at the time. Everyone knew he was getting sold too soon (well, everyone except Liverpool, that is), but the money was just too good to pass up.

Babel sees himself as a central striker, I believe that was his position all through the academy. So quite how he ended up stuck out on the wing, I don't know. It's certainly not his best position.

Babel was stuck on the wing because of the great KJH who never stopped scoring . Liverpool mates of mine always knocked him and I said , he is a central striker and not a winger and Liverpool bought him about 2 years before he was ready to leave us. I see he is possibly off to Hoffenheim .

My recollection is that Babel came in to our first team as No.9 when we sold Zlatan. But he didn’t score enough goals, so we bought Huntelaar that winter. A few weeks later Mitae got injured, and Babel was given a chance on the left wing.

I would not blame the management for selling him when we did. The release clause in his contract said we had to sell to any club he wanted who offered at least €6 million. I think his choice of Liverpool was mainly about the money – he got a €5 million slice of the transfer fee, and his wages tripled.

I agree that it was not a good move in terms of developing his potential. But he’s had enough chances (including as central striker) to show that he’s not a top class goalscorer. And at 24 he needs to be judged on his record, not supposed potential. So I would not want to buy him back.

But I wish him well, and hope that Hoffenheim works out for him.

It seems that we are interested in out-of-favour at Herenveen Bas Dost and we'll have on stage a young nigerian, namely Fanendo Adi from Slowak club As Trencin.
Frankly I hope we get a real CF. El Ham can play also LF, in my opinion. All of this if Suarez goes. Don't know what to think about Babel, I would love to have him back, but not for 6 months

Van Wolfswinkel seems to be in the frame as potential replacement for Suarez.

Anyone have an opinion on him?

Although a youth but we are about to sign a 16 year old Swiss talent Stefan Marinkovic from Lucerne.He plays left side of midfield and defence.

Well he certainly isn't getting any playing time at Villareal and I don't think he has much of a future there.

well, he is getting some playing time, but certainly not what a starter would get

either way, i'd take him in a heartbeat, this club is exactly what he needs

Maybe its what he needs but is it what the club needs? i personally dont really rate him all that much..

Van Wolfswinkel would be a good choice but i would prefer Tim Matavz from Groningen. They're pretty similar except Matavz is Slovenian

Seems Eidur Gudjonsen wants to come and join in the fun!

He's 32 but we enjoyed him at Spurs on loan last season and he cut it in the premier...a very useful goal against Stoke away if I recall, so he could be nice to have on the bench.

I think he'd be the replacement for Pantelic that we've been missing.

im not sure if he would do us any good.. but i guess he can score goals.. maybe a good "off the bench" kind of player..

He was a decent enough option up front and in the midfield for Barcelona several years ago and at 32 he probably has a couple of years left. If he comes in at the same kind of deal that Mido and Oojier did I would not object.

he plays for stoke (my local team) hes only been able to play 5 games this year as his form has been dire.. but he was a good goal scorer your right.. the local paper suggests that he will take a big pay cut.. and as he is out of contract soon he can come now for free with stoke paying part his wages...

I watch Stoke alot because they are my 'team' in England due to family connections, Eidur has been unlucky with lack of form and fitness but i think for us he would be that static #9 that de Boer is looking for, very much the mould of Ronald de Boer in the 90's team.

I'd like to see what Eidur could do at the ArenA, I was excited when he joined Stoke because after all he is a quality player.

Again, if the club sign Gudjohnsen, it won't be as a winger, but as a static striker, like Pantelic.
