Oranje trivia...
Marco van Basten has come up with a remarkable penalty for players who break the Oranje houserules. In the past it was usual for football players all over the world to pay a fine for minor offenses. The money had to be put into the 'penalty jar', which - at the end of the campaign - would be used for a group activity of some sort: a night out or something like that.
Van Basten, however, has introduced a really cruel and merciless penalty... in a way. If a Holland player comes late for breakfast or training, or otherwise breaks a houserule, he will have to come forward, stand in front of the group and tell a joke.
"Fines have no effect on boys who make so much money. They find it a lot worse to stand there and tell a joke. No-one broke any rules so far. Cool, eh?"
:D
Suggestion for repeated offenders: make 'em come forward and sing a song! That's even worse!

This year - after 3-year Wisła's supremacy - Legia Warsaw has won the title. To the 2nd part of your question - I live near Warsaw, but I'm not a fan of Legia, Polonia and any other club from 1st division. My heart beats for Ajax. And for KS Piaseczno - my hometown club. But I'm sure that you don't know it. It's 4th division, so the club is totally unknown in Europe.

2:0 to the US tonight. Brian Ching, The Flyin Hawaiian, and Clint Dempsey with goals. US much better than previous match, a loss, v. Morocco.

Good result, all things considered.
Arango didn't seem to do too much, but I thought that bald guy, Gonzalez, had some potential. He sure was fast. I think he should have cut inside a little more, though.

Same result as last time we played, y really dident like the way we played, we lacked some power up front and USA was just too quick for our slow defending.
Youre right Arango did not have a good game, Gonzales is called "the Turbo" he is quite quick on the right flank but i like too see him more as a right wide midfielder, thats where plays best. He will probably play in Ecuador with the LDUQ Ecuador's current champions.
All in all we played better against Mexico  .

If you're looking for cheap shirts, try to find something on ebay etc. That's the best way I think.

http://www.subsidesports.com/uk/store/index.jsp is a good shop. They're not that cheap (but not rip-off either) and you will be getting the genuine article, unlike with some of the dodgy e-bay sellers.

Some info (from an Oz point of view) leading up to the friendly b/w The Netherlands and Australia this weekend.
from
www.theworldgame.com.au
Socceroos Assistant Coach Johan Neeskens has demanded a decision on his future from Football Federation Australia as the World Cup kick-off draws near, reports SBS TV's Simon Hill from Mierlo.
Neeskens, who's been asked to join current coach Guus Hiddink in Russia after the finals in Germany, is holding out for the top job in Australia and says he wants answers, and he wants them as soon as possible.
"From Australia so far I haven't heard anything, but I told also the people from Australia I cannot wait until after the World Cup," said Neeskens.
"I have some different options and I don't want to wait until after the World Cup because the others I am talking with - they want to know between now and two weeks - 'yes or no'."
But Neeskens' immediate focus is on this weekend's clash between Australia and the nation of his birth at Feyenoord's De Kuip.
It's a stadium Brett Emerton knows well after three years with the Rotterdammers. Emerton was part of Guus Hiddink's first choice eleven in training - the same eleven that started against Greece - but the Blackburn man is hoping to be given a freer reign in front of his former fans.
"I like playing different positions and unfortunately I like to get forward a little bit more often than I did the other night (against Greece) but you have to do what you are told," said Emerton.
Another two tough, two-and-a-half hour sessions in Mierlo showed Hiddink is not intending to drop the pace in the build-up to the World Cup.
Injury concerns John Aloisi and Tim Cahill both trained - the latter with a protective bandage around his knee, but Harry Kewell continued to work alone with physio Les Gelis and trainer Anthony Crea - he's still a couple of days away from rejoining in full.
Josh Kennedy, who's been troubled by an achilles problem, was last to arrive in camp after his weekend wedding to basketball star, Jacinta Hamilton. His injury may have eased - but the pain of separation for his wife at least, hasn't.
"She is not the happiest about it but I have a good excuse, I think, to go to the World Cup and prepare for that - so she'll have to live with that, won't she?," said Kennedy.
Joining the 23 squad members are young guns Kaz Patafta, Stuart Musialik and Neil Kilkenny, as Hiddink looks beyond the World Cup - and his tenure. Kilkenny admitting that he is struggling slightly with the intense schedule.
"I haven't been training for the last three weeks - I have been on holidays - obviously the English league finished then. I think I am probably suffering a bit more than the other players, but I'll get through it," said Kilkenny.
The Dutch aren't focussing on the Australian game just yet as they take on Mexico three days before the Socceroos game, in Guus Hiddink's spiritual home of Eindhoven.
It's a chance for the Socceroos to see Marco van Basten's side in the flesh.
"Marco van Basten was the idol for me - him and Diego Maradona - being a striker, he was the one who I really looked up to. I'm going to have to ask him for his autograph after the game," said Viduka.
But will Football Federation Australia ask Neeskens to sign on as new coach? Only they know the answer.

I'll be waiting for that game, Mexico not that big a deal. Well most friendlies aren't. Too bad Van der Vaart is injured, we need him soon. Plus most teams such as Holland are out of shape so they should cancel a friendly

9 days before the first game on World Cup, Poland have lost a friendly against Columbia. Our team played bad and lost 2 strange goals. Watch tomorrows' news - I am sure that all the channels will transmite second goal for Columbia, which was scored by... goalkeeper - Luis Enrique Martinez  !!! And it wasn't a penatly or free kick. He scored a goal from his own penalty area!!
Poland 1-2 Columbia
Goals: Jeleń 90' - Elkin Murillo 19' and Luis Martinez 64'

I think it must be something about Columbian keepers - Higuita used to get a lot of goals too (but I think most of them were from penalties/free kicks......)

I think you are mistaken and that you mean former Chili international Jose Chilavert. He was the free kick/penalty specialist of the team. Hiquita was famous for his hairdo and his spectacular (weird) saves and errors.

You might be right, I think it was Chilvert who got more but I'm sure Higuita used to score as well. Anyway, you're right about the wierd saves, I remember the 'Scorpion' kick against England at Wembley.
