Well it certainly sound like there are a lot of Ajax fans at the game - all I can here is the Ajax fans chanting Sjakje Wolfs name - nice that :ajaxscarf.gif:

Ajax are playing with a lot more confidence since the goal.

1-0 full time. One of the team's best defensive matches of the year. Got lucky on one shot that hit Vermeer's crossbar but the middle of the defense was great!!! :ajaxscarf.gif: :ajaxscarf.gif:

What a great win and a good performance. Leonardo took the goal very well when the ball finished boucing off the posts. He is a very useful player and I would not let him go. He is popping up with some goals.

Overall a great night even though the french stream was not very clear. (in dutch they are a lot slower in talking and let you know every player who has the ball which does make things alot easier to watch! )

Oh yes to you guys in UK I see that Eurosport channel 410 on sky is showing 30 mins of highlights tomorrow. It is scheduled for 10.15am but check it out first.

Finally a solid, hard fought victory, the lads were in control for almost the entire game :hupajax.gif: its about damn time they realize they can play better....we would have beaten aston villa if the team had played the same way in england. I think we have our ticket to the second round in the bag....well done.

Best european game since 2003...its been a while.... :ajaxscarf.gif: lets keep it up.

Absolutely Cock - a- hoop !!! Brilliant result !!!! :ajaxscarf.gif: The draw between Slavia and MSK was a nice result also. Leonardo proves again and again that he is a super sub. I wonder if he called his shot before hitting it.

P.S. Love those clean sheets !!

Really happy with the win, but I can't put my hand on my heart and say the team was in control 'for almost the entire game'. In fact I thought they were playing crap mostly - couldn't string three passes together. That is until Leo scored the goal and space opened up...

Frans I can't agree with you here. Yep, there were parts of the game (maybe 15 to 20min) where Hamburg where in control, but this is expected playing at home.

We did make some bad passes, of which 99% of them came from Kennedy imo. Other than that, we had some great movement and 1 touch passing. van Basten is getting this team heading in the right direction.

What impressed me mostly though was when we went ahead, we kept pushing, and in reality should have buried them.

Im not getting carried away, but if we can show guts like this every week. I am liking where this team is heading.

Absolutely !!!
Great coaching by MvB, once again, with the right substitution at the right time.
We played better once Gabri went in.
And we were the better side, no doubt about it.

The first 30 minutes were just plain crap, and Kennedy was certainly not the only one who couldn't control the ball or pass it properly (Enoh, Oleguer, Suarez, Sulejmani (hum... no, I didn't see him play), Van der Wiel, etc.).

The last hour, Ajax were at least as good as HSV, the victory deserved, but not because they had so many chances : they had absolutely no idea how to score a goal. They could only send crosses that were easily cleared by the defenders. That would have been a good 0-0 if they hadn't made that mistake. Overall, that's still a great away performance against a rather good opponent.

I agree with Cedric.

We weren't that dominant. In fact for large stretches it could have gone either way. Lots of possesion lost needlesly. Enoh looked a real liability again. Kennedy, Oleguer, and Sulejmani all lacked certitiude in their play while Suarez still seems to be playing in his own universe. The Dutch commentator on Ned3 described it as if we'd wiped the floor with them, and that's just wishful thinking in my eyes.

BUT

Compared to what we've seen in recent years it's still the most convincing performance against a credible opponent. And despite the problems you can see it starting to gel, and that's the big positive for me. More confidence, less injuries, a few better players and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel....

I just watched those high;ights on Eurosport TV. Didn't see all the game last night, especially the first half but Eurosport agreed with our verdict, 25 mins or so of highlights with about 3 minutes of that being of the 1st half.

Interesting bit of trivia (well it interested me anyway), Hamburg obviously have two TV positions at the ground, in this case one for German and one for Dutch TV. Leo's goal was scored at the other end from where I saw it last night and the ads around the pitch were Dutch rather than German. Not terribly exciting I know but I haven't seen that anywhere else before.

Great Win anyway. Who still thinks Leo should have gone in the summer?? :ajaxscarf.gif:

Seen this a few times recently on Eurosport - Norway v Holland being most recent, where cam was in opposite stand. Re adverts it is very common for ads from away team country to be round ground esp if game is live in away teams country and not in home country or if away country is richer.

Great win!! :ajaxscarf.gif:

MOTM for me was Vertonghen. Somewhat disappointed in Enoh's play for the second straight game. Maybe the Makelele comparisions will fade for a bit. Gabri was very good once again off the bench. Wonder if MVB may give Enoh a rest this sunday? Or maybe play him to push his confidence back up again b/c its clear from watching him play that a bit of self-doubt has crept into his play. Even before the yellow cards.

Suarez may be in his own planet, but he fights so hard and is relentless. Love watching that guy play. He's definitely not a central striker in an ajax 4-3-3, but he battled the hell out of much bigger and stronger defenders all nite.

Agree that he was relentless yesterday. I worry that playing in the middle he takes on a lot of punishment from the opponents. He's been hobbling around a lot following chips at his ankles. We need him to stay out wide. while Sno is not by any means a forward, he does a good job of holding the ball. Would like to see him in on Sunday with Suarez and Sulejmani out wide. We definitely need KJH back in the lineup.

SE6 I watched eurosport this morning and after about 2 mins realised the camera was on the other side of the pitch from last nights stream.Never seen this before on TV.

Would add that I quite like Sno when he comes on and would play him instead of Kennedy on Sunday.

De Jong seems to have gone out of favour at present, but he is still only 19 so plenty of time for him.

A very young starting 11 with 9x 23 and under (Rasmus just gets into that as he is 24 tomorrow) Still needed an olden to get the goal, mind you Leo is only 25!
