Having said that the performance sounded dominant, away from home, so that's got to be a good omen.

Yeah, 2 away goals with this team doesn't guarantee it unfortunately. It's a great advantage going into the home leg, but if we give up a few silly goals today's work is all undone. I think we'll still do it, and this should help.

I said the same thing a couple of years back when we faced Copenhagen....we need to finish strong at home and not give them any life....

Nice result . It should mean the Heerenveen will have to open up to go for goals in Amsterdam. The better to burn them and put them out of our misery. Tough for me to think of anything nice to say as I despise the playoffs with a bleeping, blanking, curse word deleted passion.

My two cents on this game...

I thought it was very entertaining. Not good, but entertaining. Loads of erratic passes, loads of mistakes, but it was very lively. Ajax were slightly better, but they didn't outplay (let alone outclass) Heerenveen. Possession was 50%-50%, I guess, and there were a few phases in which Ajax were under pressure.

The game as such was fairly balanced, which can not be said if we look at the chances. Heerenveen had a couple of small ones, but Stekelenburg was hardly tested. Their equalizer came out of nowhere. Ajax had loads of scoring opportunities. They hit the post (Perez) and the underside of the cross-bar (Rommedahl; from the away end I thought it was KJH). Suárez missed at least two sitters, including a 100% free passage. Davids and Lindgren had unmarked shooting opportunities inside the box. Rommedahl had the chance to lift the ball over the goalkeeper... but he also lifted it just over the cross-bar.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Ajax should have scored four goals at the very least. That would have wrapped it all up. Now? Well, Heerenveen are still alive, kind of. If they take the lead at the ArenA, weird things can still happen. Bt if we score one goal (which I think we will; point is that we have to score first), they require three. Score an early one and they'll crumble, I think. This really shouldn't be a problem.

My Man of the Match, by the way, was Bruno Silva. He's impressed me since his arival, anyway. A very good buy. That cross for Heitinga's goal was fantastic. Lindgren was also good. Suárez should have scored a hattrick, but he was absolutely unstoppable. We've moaned a lot about this season's terrible buys, but I have to say I'm very happy with the three gentlemen we got from Groningen.

Finally, Urby was playing at left fullback and I normally think he's terrible at that position, but he had a more than decent one against Heerenveen. It's good to see that he's pulling himself out of the shit.

KJH had a stinker, but that can happen. I'm not gonna slag him off for having one not-so-great game.
