Good goal from Vertonghen btw, though anyone watching on Setanta had to wait for a replay as their camera's chose that exact moment to break down...there was still sound though so knew we'd scored.
Urby is blowing hot and cold as usual. Suarez could had a penalty...didn't dive for once but his reputation has preceded him. Huntelaar miscued a backheel from 5 yards and Kennedy seems to be on a mission to score a blazer from yards out to rival VVV's against us....no matter who else is in a better position. I think he'll go off at half time.

From the replay, the ball was definitely over the line -- so technically the play was dead and there shouldn't have been a red card. But it seemed like the linesman couldn't see it so he couldn't say one way or the other -- and since the intent was there, it is kind of poetic justice that he got sent off.

Setanta are saying that the original goal should have stood and he shouldn't have been sent off but I can't be too sorry as I remeber AZ's "goal" against Steks at their place last year.
So 2-1 up against ten men....
That was absolutely right desicion by ref, the ball didn't cross the line, so goal couldn't be allowed
Well they didn't show the replay from a particularly good angle but it looked like it had crossed the line to me. Jock Brown and Frank Stapleton commentating for Setanta are adamant that Luinge and his linesman both got it wrong but the linesman at least should have been on the line or thereabouts so perhaps you're right.

Right - I've come away from the TV to get in before anyone else. Can we please give Colin a chance in this game before we get on his back. He's not our best player, isn't going to set the game on fire and I doubt will score a wonder goal, but he probably won't cost us the game either or f*ck up in a major way in the next 45 so can we just leave him be. He'll be gone at season's end.
I stand to end the game with egg on my face....

The funny thing about mr Roelof is that the call was totally wrong at first...if the ball had gone in before the hand ball than it would not be a red card, but Luinge gave the goal to Ajax and still sent de Zeuw off....the linesman probably help him out by saying it had not crossed the line...that way the red card was rightly handed.

When it was still 2-1 they almost scored to tie the game. I wonder how it would have turned out if they had scored that goal. As it is, we can be happy that we padded the goal difference statistic quite nicley -- just in case the end of this year turns out like the end of last year.

Good display from Ajax - we were all over then right at the end and could have had more - Waterman was having a nightmare and Luinge ended it right on 90 minutes without the 3 minutes of injury time that apparently was going to be played.
For their red card, I think the ball had definately crossed. De Zuewe had his left leg behind the line and his hand that stopped the ball was even further back.
Suarez has a couple of chances to go down today, one in the box but he didn't which was certainly good.
Nice to see Leo get a goal too even if Setanta can't tell the difference between him, Jurgen Colin and Mitchell Donald!

I've seen a lot of Dutch refs do this, I don't get it.
If it's 6-1 or 1-1 you still have to play the indicated three minutes of injury time, that's the rule.
I mean, last year the league came down to goals scored, so it's not like they can say it doesn't matter.
Anyway, the gods were smiling upon Ajax today, let's hope that this performance can be built on!!!!
(still think we need a decent centreback though)
And Leonardo is back! Yeah!

All right, all right ! With Davids, Leonardo and Perez, it's another Ajax.

Hope we get Vermaelen soon too.

Totally agree!
I absolutely
hate that kind of 'let's be reasonable, you've won, so let's call it a day' attitude.
What happened yesterday happens exclusively if Ajax are winning with convincing figures. Let's say it happens three, perhaps four times in a season (last season that was definitely the case). That's ten, perhaps twelve minutes of football against opposition that's already battered: they're tired, they know they've lost, they want a shower and they want to go home. In other words: those ten, twelve minutes are minutes in which the chance of an extra goal or two is relatively high.
Last season proved that this can be of crucial importance, but no: it didn't teach Mr Roelof Luinge a lesson...
F*ck's sake. Very annoying!

Okay lads, my match report is up:
Resurgent Ajax pile it on against 10-man AZ
I'd be interested in hearing what you think. It was a strange match to try to sum up. But very very fun to watch! (thank you Setanta!)
