Well, age 22 is rather close to the moment that you cannot call yourself a talent anymore and some more consistency is absolutely essential to progress beyond that stage.

I absolutely hope that he will pick up the level at Ajax quickly and that he will prove an assett to our team. But the first signs are not that promissing though.

Admittedly, if he would play for Psv I would have more confidence in his abilities, simply because their scouting skills when it comes to forwards is good.

Ha! You're such an optimist :D

I agree though, cut the guy some slack. If we applied the "shit after two bad games" - rule,

we wouldn't have a team after the last season.

Oh, it is not just that. I can't say his trackrecord really impresses me, neither the few, i hasten to add, videofootage of him that I watched.

The track record more or less just started last season. Before that he was just a youngster in Malmö who didn't really get the chance often. Once laned out to Halmstad last season he really bloomed and won the scoring-league. This season has been so and so in allsvenskan but really good in the royal league (often against better teams than in allsvenskan).

The track record is nothing that I worry about. The main worry is not a slump of form either (which can happen to anyone) but the fact that it might be hard to adapt to the no9 (as said 100000 times before...)

If I remember it correctly he scored 14 goals in 26 games in the only season he really was a starter in the league (for Halmstads BK). This season he scored 8 goals in 10 games in the Royal League (the 'Scandinavian Champions League').

That's not such a bad track record, I would say...

Track record is something we ajax fans cannot pay much atention, why ? well because we are always looking for young players... that for obvious reasons dont have a lot or any track record. To tell you the truth a players real track record starts at ajax because it´s the first "big team" for many players. In the end the only players that can come to ajax with a reasonable back log are those veterans who come back too ajax after their first stint with the club( Litmanen,Davids etc).

Rosenberg might be in a slump but lets hope it ends soon, i´ve got faith in the kid, swedish players have always been good purchases in the end(cant say the same about the belgians).

If we're talking track record we can go back to Zlatan...

Games Goals
1998/99 Malmö FF 6 1
1999/00 Malmö FF 26 12
2000/01 Malmö FF 8 3

Zlatan was on the other hand only 20 when he was signed to Ajax but still...
Ajax greatness is that they bring in a talent to the squad and make him a worldclass-player. They bought Zlatan for almost 9 millions euro despite his not so impressive trackrecord. And what happened?
Rosenberg is not as talented as Zlatan was but he will succeed...

A hard and well placed headr coming from behind with speed jumping into a quite big crowd.

It was a good goal.

Choose Malmö-Djurgården on the right hand side.

Your pathetic reporter keeps giving you the updates from our new boy. Goal again, loss again for his team. A nice header, with alot of time to aim.

Choose Elfsborg-Malmö on the right hand side.

Markus Rosenberg was voted second most overrated player in Allsvenskan by the players in a Canal+ poll. Good sign?

But it should be said that this doesn't mean the players think he is no good, but more that they feel he's been a bit overhyped.

I have a feeling that this would not have happened if he had not signed for Ajax. This is the judgement of the people: big transfer, plays a few shit games, team starts losing... who does he think he is?

Whatever.

Ronald Koeman and Danny Blind have watched him many times and were both convinced. Blind's second opinion, in particular, makes me confident.

One goal, one assist is the record in the final game for Malmö for Markus. He will on the 4th join Ajax for his first training session and presentation.

It seems like Rosenberg did very well on his first training with Ajax...
Any reports? Was someone there?

I wanted to go, but my work planning didn't work out (as usual) so I had to finish work today. Also, it was absolutely pissing with rain. Like a tsunami from heaven. So it wasn't too appealing, either.

All I know is that the report on Ajax.nl said that he scored some of the best goals in the 11-against-11 training game.

Well, nothing spectacular. An Ajax fan says the expectations on Rosenberg are not as high as they were on Zlatan. If Rosenberg is Stefan Pettersson class the fans will be happy.

Rosenberg was happy with his goal in the training session. He also says it's a lot easier with a Swede (Lindgren) in the team. Markus was also impressed with the other players' skills and good passing.

Danny Blind believes in his new buy: "I think that Markus is a bit like Zlatan and a bit like Stefan Petterson. If I'm right we'll be very happy with him. Markus is a man for the starting eleven - 100%. But this is Ajax, we're a top club and have alternatives in all positions."

I'm kinda exited to see Markus in action with Ajax. I've seen him only once play with 'the big guys' (France-Sweden) and he did very well. He has the speed and the skills. It's going to be very interesting to see if he can manage to play as a no. 9 in the 4-3-3 formation. He has 4-3-3 experience from his U-21 national team games, but that's not quite the same. Hope he won't have too much trouble adapting to his new formation, team and country.

(These last things were my thoughts. ;) )

I'm hoping for a Pettersson type of player instead of a Zlatan type. Maybe less unpredictable but so much more effective and finally a striker who scores more than 20 goals and assists in a season.

Stefan :worshippy:

Pettersson is a hero. He was my idol back in the late 80s. If Rosenberg is a striker of that caliber... I wouldn't be disappointed!
