If De Mul is sold this summer, what do you all think is a realistic fee that Ajax could expect to receive from Sevilla or others? 4-5 million euros maybe?
Also, not to get way off topic, but since he was mentioned... whatever happened to De Ridder? Is he still at Celta? Does he play?

Please, no...
That must be the worst idea since Abraham Lincoln said: "Let's go to the theatre this evening."

Since he left Ajax, he didn't had a decent season in Inter or Everton, but i don't think that he is finished as a player. if there is a place where he can reborn it's definitely at Ajax. and i really don't think that he would be worse then de mul is now

I know, I know, I am guilty of it myself too, but the
UEFA Competitions thread is slowly turning into a Tom De Mul vs. Daniƫl de Ridder discussion... Let's continue that discussion over here.
Kowalczyk schreef:Cedric_AeF schreef:Indeed, he was seriously injured this season.
Besides: 12 games would mean "never became a starter". 5 games means "was never given a chance". I think the manager who landed him got sacked after a few months, if I remember it correctly.
I haven't followed Ridders since he moved to Spain, but at the time I fundamentally disagreed with Danny Blind's viewpoint that Tom De Mul is the better footballer of the two.
I'm not just saying this based on a couple of good games for Holland U-21. That wouldn't make sense.
The Purple Cow schreef:De Mul is the fastest Ajax player of all time, and not without talent, but as a winger if you can't cross the ball with accuracy and pace you've got a serious problem.
That's where De Ridder is vastly superior, the quality of his final ball.
Manneken Pis schreef:Hmm...
De Mul was fast, I agree, but one-on-one he rarely beat his man. Speed is fine on the break, but with Ajax's possesion game beating the man is critical... and then there's the other issue of a winger who cannot cross (although that's been an Ajax problem fro a very long time).
Now have your say!

I thought De Mul's crosses were pretty good so far. Against Jong Oranje he provided again one brillant assist and in Eredivisie, he provided as many assists as guys such Sneijder or Kennedy according to voetbal.nl (9), one less according to VI. It's not that bad...
The thing is, for me, that he can't beat his man. Against Heerenveen at home in the play-offs, it was really painful. He just didn't want to receive the ball if there was someone facing him.
So if he wants to leave and we get at least 4 millions in the process, I guess no one will complain.

De Mul and De Ridder are different wingers. Tom is more of the run-n-cross while de ridder lacks pace so he uses more technique and creativity. (he signed for birmingham btw)
De Mul definatley has talent, was one of our good players last season, but that was his damn first season. why would he want to leave, and why would sevilla, a challenging club in spain last season, want him?
if he does leave, i wont feel too bad since there are lots of wingers like him around.

I know there are good wingers from Real's reserves that went on loan, forgot the name, Dani or something like that.
There's also Tim Vincken and lads like that

What about John Goossens?
I've never seen him play in Ajax-1 but i think he will prove to be very talented and skillful. He could act just as a backup winger next season so we will need to keep de Mul for another season. And Tom is a very good talent too so it will be a loss if he leaves.

Apparently we were interested in buying Roy Beerens, but he found Ajax a too big a step, so instead he went to Heerenvenn.
I'm not too worried about our wingers, as HTC doesnt even use a real 4-3-3 winger system.

Damn! Beerens was a fave of mine when I watched the games of the -21 European Championship. Would have been nice

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Ajax and Sevilla have pretty much reached an agreement on the transfer of Tom De Mul. Marca claims that a Sevilla delegation will come to Amsterdam this upcoming Tuesday, in order to finalize the deal and sign the paperwork. We'll see.

It's already done. Tom de Mul is sold to Sevilla. Reports announce a price of 5 millions. Not too bad...

Yup, it's official.
I must say: five million is excellent money. He's talented and he had a fairly good season, but I think he's not gonna crack it. This is a transfer in the Andy van der Meyde category: very good money for a 'replaceable' player I did not really believe in anyway.
I wish Tom all the best, by the way. No offense. I hope he'll do well for them.
