A bit unlucky not to be on the scoreboard. We have totally controlled the match in the first half and had some pretty good chances. I don't think much of Spartak's attack but that's probably more a result of them not having many matches since their winter break. Also good to see two of our former captains, Vermaelen and Huntelaar at the match!

Damn - we'll be so effing scary right now with Huntelaar in place of De Jong. Also, anyone have any information on the possession stats from the 1st half?

Many years ago, when Ajax was a still a great team, I traveled from Cali to the Arena for a Champions League game against some Italian team. Ajax dominated the game from end to end, but the Italians had some long-haired Argentinian who scored two goals on the counter. That felt undeserved, and it seemed cruel, but I don't believe it. You get what you deserve, in football if in nothing else. Ajax have looked very good at times, but they have not scored. The Spartak goalkeeper looks amazing, but Ajax have helped him by shooting within his reach.

Can't agree. No way did we deserve to lose. A tie would have been a travesty, much less this.

The reality is that what a team deserves has nothing to do with the outcome. Sometimes... shit just happens.
