I guess it's a Pyrrhic victory to escape with one point. Verhoeven had a couple of good saves down the stretch. Hope Stekelenburg just suffered a knee bruise. I'll give them credit for coming back and fighting in the second half. I hope the football association takes a close look at the tape of this match. These officials deserve a sanction!

Cedric you are quite right we were playing 12 men and I think we ended up with 5 yellows plus a red and yet the only real bad bit of footy was the guy standing on Steks knee.

A lot better 2nd half we deserved the draw and could have won in the end. The only time they looked threatening was in that last 3mins and Pizzaman came to the rescue, mind my heart was in my mouth as he is no Steks but for someone who has played 90 mins of footy this season and that was for Jong Ajax he did superb with a great save .First time he took a goal kick I loved our supporters chant Pizza.
I do hope Steks will be ok but Pizzaman did a great job today .

This is still 2 points dropped due to poor defending at the goals but credit that the lads fought back .

I think the ref was a disgrace booking our players for trivial offences but the red card was as bad a mistake as I have ever seen from a ref.It ruined the game . I hope the Dutch FA rescind the red card and have a real go at the ref.

Remember that AZ match a few years ago? He literally cost Ajax the title.

Looks like we still will be 2nd as Twente have drawn with ADO but PSV are now up 2-0 over 10 man Feyenoord. I take back the Twente draw; ESPN Soccernet show the match at FT but apparently it is still on and is now 2-2. PSV are up 7-0; Mario Been can't possibly be around much longer and the team looks like they may be in a relegation battle.

There were three reasons why Ajax dropped two points today:

1. Because they were scandalously, embarrassingly poor. No focus. No concentration. No ideas. Just like against Utrecht the other week.

2. Because Mr. Wegereef is a stupid moron. We did not lose these points because of him (with the attitude Ajax had against Twente, Milan and Auxerre they would have won this one; no referee in the world could have done anything about that), but this was a pretty extreme case of bad refereeing. Anita's red card was an absolute joke: leg not stretched, used the inside of his foot, played the ball - it wasn't even a free kick. Ajax should have been awarded at least one penalty in the first half. Some of the second half yellows were ridiculous (Suárez's, for instance).

3. Because Excelsior were well organized, they really did a good job - good for them.

In that order.

Because of all the 'anti-Ajax' decisions in the first half, many Ajax fans were going bonkers over Steek's injury, but not punishing Fernandez for that was one of Wegereef's best decisions of the game. Fernandez kind of stumbled, so he couldn't jump. Very unfortunate. No bad intentions.

We're losing the title in the Fall again, folks. We've seen it all before.

Edit: If THIS is worthy of a red card, I'm a vanilla milkshake. Jan Wegereef is a waste of space and oxygen. But what else is new?
