Sloppy first half, not helped by the bad pitch and bad officiating. Alderwiereld probably the best of the bunch so far. Ajax are going to have to play better if they want to get full points from this match.

We are getting very lucky in the back line. Heerenveen can't take advantage of things but we need to tighten up.

No way was that a red card but I guess we will take it.

Finally #2; Suarez locks this one down!

A hard fought win with 2 well taken goals.Until we settled it with that second goal I half expected another silly mistake to let in a goal . They did have their chances and got a tough red but our defence held on well.

Shame that Twente got 3 points

I can't understand how you can discuss this red card. As I can't understand how a player can have the idea to tackle from behind without trying to catch the ball in such counter-attack.

Well, that was very poor football in a very bad game on a very bad pitch, but the 3 points are there. It's pretty unusual in Heerenveen...

It was a tackle from behind but not one that was terribly violent. I think in most other leagues it would have been a yellow (certainly the England it would have).

It was typical of what FIFA now call a "serious foul play" and you don't have to be violent when you just want to stop a player running full speed, but that can be very dangerous (especially when you just aim at the ankles...).


Also, I don't remember if I read that in the English section too, but some weeks ago people moaned about the fact that Ajax had the same number of points as last year with Van Basten. Well, we can now do a new comparison :

Ajax 2008/2009 : 23 games, 45 points, 50 goals for, 27 against. AZ had 57 points, Twente 48.
Ajax 2009/2010 : 23 games, 52 points, 65 goals for, 17 against. PSV have 58 pts, maybe 61 ; Twente 58

This tackle could've cost Rommedahl the rest of his career, purely aimed at the Achilles tendon.

it was a bad tackle aimed at the ankle .I only thought the red was tough as in England he would likely have got a yellow.

I'll retract my statement about it not being a "violent" tackle! My only point is that things are applied inconsistently across leagues. In Holland, this will always be a Red card in England usually not. After looking at the replay, I agree with others that the Red was justified.

Its not across leagues, it differs per referee.... You see it every weekend. Some dirty tackles are left unbooked, while others receive a red card.... Football needs an upgrade when it comes to judging this things. A video-ref would be an outcome. No more discussions about fouls, offsides or whether a ball crossed the line or not.

Given the several shambolic performances in Friesland in recent years, this one was satisfying to me. Just as I'm hoping 7 March is.
