Well they chose Atouba over Obradovich. Lets see how Pantelic works out. I'm not going to act as if he's the messiah we were waiting for. Which other ideas area you talking about?

Oh maybe you are talking about the idea of signing half a dozen players on the last day of the transfer period when you knew what the problems were.

We've had a suspect defense ever since Chivu, Maxwell and Grygera left really. Stam was a stopgap. What does the board do - say that they were trying to sign 6 defenders but none of them wanted to come. Well, boo fucking hoo.

1- no, they didn't do that... partizan refused to sell obra until he had helped them reach the EL group stage, which would obviously lower his value to us

2- the other ideas were onyewu, lugano, de zeeuw (obviously in now), pantelic, kerlon etc etc

3- ive been screaming for a real defense marshal since johnny left... but no matter how stunning the hole, they still tried to fill it admirably (or so it would seem)

either way, it doesnt erase the fact that they didnt sign a bunch of overpriced slugs and they did make some nice pickups in other areas - and now that i think of it, tosic would still be available after the deadline because bremen are letting him out of his contract, plus there are other unsigned players of note out there that can still be had

obviously, the failure to cap it with a defender is a big letdown just when we were getting excited about things they were trying to do

That kind of sums up my feelings. It seems we waited until the last few days, made a bunch of moves, but nothing to fix the biggest problems. I think if we'd signed a quality central defender, and not made any of the other signings from the last 2 days, we'd win the league.

Does anyone think these 3 signings are going to help us win the league? Especially when it looks like 2 of them will be spending considerable time with Jong Ajax.

Another rebuilding year, only to start over again next year with the excess of years past. I hope I'm wrong, but I think this summer has worn out my optimism with regards to Ajax management.

nevertheless, oleguer didnt leave, so apparently we cancelled a safety deal to loan out djorou from arsenal

maybe oleguer and wielart can rememeber how to play the game, i dont know... but i dont give away titles after 4 rounds

we have who we have, so lets go out and make the best of it until we have someone better

The main thing about these 3 new players is that we have not paid out any fees and Kerlon is having his wages paid by inter.

As for defenders we may indeed still pick up a free transfer. I am not confident about this season as our defence is weaker than last year ie Vermaelen could actually defend and Atouba does not look as if he can.

With all due respect - the main thing this transfer period should have been us getting 2 defenders and maybe one striker.

What we got is 3 midfielders, 1 striker and 1 clown at LB. I agree with everyone with the fact that we haven't done worse than the previous 3-4 years. I also understand the worth of signing loan deals and getting people on Bosmans. I absolutely love having De Zeeuw on our team.

I really do get it. But they haven't actually fixed the main problems, have they?

I pretty much feel the same way. Here's hoping the guys we have can get it done.

Ajax is still finalising a deal with a defender (Vuckic and Prahic are being named). They have already put the player on the list for the KNVB and are hoping to finalise the deal the next hours/tomorrow.

Okay, no Vuckic or Prahic. Someone a little older, around 30.

According to Vasovic in the Dutch Zone (he is an insider in Balkan transfers) probably not Biscan, but someone around his age. Biscan is 31.

Biscan, Prahic - really hope that never hapens
Vuckic - young, maybe has potential - his younger brother is much better but he's already at Newcastle

The long awaited defenders don't seem to be on their way to the Arena but Ajax seems to be doing an amazingly terrific job when keeping the play far away from the defense. If these newly-arrived gentlemen are capable of doing it that way for us then all of us would be happier don't you think. Clever thinking from our board.

If we start scoring 6 goals a match our defense really won't be pressed. However, that is a very BIG if!!!

Ajax heeft vlak voor het sluiten van de transfermarkt om 18.00 de aanmeldpapieren voor een overgang van Igor Biscan bij de KNVB binnengebracht. Ajax en Biscan zelf zijn er echter nog niet uit waardoor een overgang nog altijd stuk kan lopen. Meer duidelijkheid hierover wordt in de loop van woensdag 2 september verwacht.

De geroutineerde verdediger (31) die ook als defensieve middenvelder uit de voeten kan is momenteel basisspeler bij Dinamo Zagreb. De Kroaten vormen eveneens een horde in de Euro Leaugue.

Onder Co Adriaanse stond de boomlange Kroaat al eens op het verlanglijstje van Ajax. Biscan verkoos toen een overstap naar Liverpool boven Amsterdam. De huidige kapitein van Zagreb zou nu wel openstaan voor een transfer.

Ajax is just before the close of the transfer market to sign the papers for a 18.00 transfer of Igor Biscayne brought by the KNVB. Ajax and Biscayne themselves are still not making a transition piece can still walk. Clarification on this matter in the course of Wednesday, September 2 expected.

The experienced defender (31) also as a defensive midfielder from the feet is currently based player at Dinamo Zagreb. The Croats are also a hurdle in the Euro Leaugue.

Under Co Adriaanse was the tall Croat already on the wish list of Ajax. Biscayne chose a move to Liverpool when above Amsterdam. The current captain of Zagreb was now open to a transfer.

if it is biscan, along with the rest of the late moves in and late loans out, i give us summer window period final passing grade

this team is now capable of winning the championship back, so let's do the business

to be honest i dont really see what problem you have with atouba.. hes hardly played thus far.. and in the games he has played he looked quite solid.. once he settles in and plays more defencively he will be good.. solid. fast.. nice touch.. hard tackle..
