OK, Great - I think at least one of these is worth a trip. Been to Bristol City a couple of times but never to Southampton (assuming they are still in business by then...)

I had heard that Ajax were on the shortlist to play a friendly against Toronto FC in Toronto this summer. MLSE went with Real Madrid (for 1 million $ including bringing in grass for one game - $250,000) and River Plate instead.

If they had come, I sit beside 3 guys who split the 2 seats, one of which is a Feyenoord fan! It would be nice to get them in North America soon!

If this is all the action they get before the season starts, it certainly isn't much, especially as the first game is reportedly on Sunday August 2.

I hadn't heard about that. Anyone think that's a realistic possibility for Ajax in the future?

They are a historically big club, and I would still think they have a larger following than many clubs. I know the past few years there have been quite a few big European clubs that have come over here to play MLS teams. Maybe wishful thinking, but I'd love to see Ajax be a club that does it in the future. I'm not sure they would have the same draw as a club like Chelsea, but I would imagine the financial aspects of having Ajax play in North America would be slightly less.

Ajax had to cancel their planned January trip to South Africa, because the Eredivisie match at NAC Breda has been re-scheduled to January 17th.

Instead, the team will go to Albufeira, southern Portugal, just like last season. They will go on a training camp there from January 6th to 13th. One friendly fixture has just been announced: against FC Groningen in Portimao. This was announced not on Ajax.nl, but on the official FC Groningen website.

A second friendly fixture has been announced: on Saturday 09 January Ajax will play... Ajax Saturday-1 (the amateur team). This is also in Portugal.

Update from Ajax.nl: the friendly against the Saturday amateurs, on Saturday 09 January, will be played at the home ground of FC Ferreiras, in Albufeira (not to be confused with Paços de Ferreira FC, who are in northern Portugal).

A venue for the FC Groningen fixture has not yet been found, according to Ajax.nl. The FC Groningen website reports it will be played in Portimao.

Ajax will go on a post-season trip to the island of Curaçao (one of the Dutch Antilles in the Caribbean) from 18 to 25 May. Without the internationals picked for the World Cup in South Africa, of course. Ajax will play friendly matches against NEC and Hubentut Fortuna, the 2009 champions of Curaçao.

Would be a nice little trip... although I'd sure as hell skip the games and stay on the beach.

Yes that would certainly be nice (but who would I support) . Perhaps they could play it in London as well so that I can actually stand a chance of going.

Ajax squad for Curacao has been announced

Vermeer, Verhoeven

Oleguer, Alderweireld, V d Meulen , Will, Supusepa, Ogararu.

Urby, Bonevacia, Overtoom, Danilo, Donald , V d Heijden

Ozbiliz, Zeegelaar.

Players like Wielaert, Kennedy Aissati and Sno have not been picked . No idea why Ogararu is there .
Kappelhof ought to have been but may have picked up an injury this weekend in the youth tourny.

Jong players Will and Supusepa have contracts expiring shortly and I quess this is their last chance of impressing .Not many attackers.

Well, nobody seems to care but Ajax won against Hubentud Fortuna 3-0 tonight (Urby x2 and Alderweireld with a penalty) and they will play against NEC tomorrow night.

I did see the score earlier before I went out but no details of scorers or team were given at that time.

well we won the cup in Curacao by beating NEC 4-3 on pens , 0-0 at FT

According to Ajax Netwerk we're in talks with Chelsea for a friendly in the weekend of 23/24/25 july.

08.07.2010 - Ajax vs Al Ahly (Kufstein, Austria)
10.07.2010 - Ajax vs Rapid Bucharest (Wattens, Austria)

With friendlies next week Ajax training started without Atouba still injured , Kennedy ill and Aissati injured. Wielaert, Sno and Manucharyan will all be with Jong Ajax so wont be involved with pre season .
Zeegelaar and Bonevacia are with the first at present .

Saw brief highlights of the Al Alhy friendly last night. Sulejmani scored the only goal. He seems much fitter than the past season and at least for now, it seems like he wants to do something with himself this season.

Lol - I only saw a 3 minute highlight reel. But he had one move where he took the ball through 3-4 opposition players (I know it's only pre-season and it was against Al Alhy). He also seemed to want to get the ball.

Last season - around this time, Jol was telling him to lose 20 pounds. So, lets see.
