Heits yellow for kicking some one off the ball was not clever. Not sure he was taught that in Amsterdam!

Correct but we still didn't bring enough pure defenders with us. Don't know the extent of Mathijsen's injury, but if he is out for the remainder of the tournament it will be the one major mistake by BvM in an otherwise great run. I thought he would give our old teammate Maduro a run during the friendlies as he could fill in the central defense.

Awesome win for the Dutch. I still can't believe how we didn't put two more in towards the end of the 2nd half.

Also, our Brazilian(Robben) outplayed Brazil at their game - diving and playacting. Although he was still getting fouled a lot. Can't believe Van Bommel didn't get a single yellow card. Just amazing.

And what a save by Stekelenburg. Brilliant stuff. He got his fingers to another rasping drive by Maicon but the officials didn't see it and signaled for a goal-kick.

This feels pretty good, huh? :wizard_d.gif:

Not many people here in the US that gave Holland much of a chance. Except for my gardener, who hates every team that's ever beaten Mexico in a major tournament!

Yeah, almost everyone I know was treating a Brazilian victory as a foregone conclusion. Lol I kept telling them - this is not the usual Dutch team where they play really well and lose. This team plays ugly and just wants to win.

Great result for the Dutch. Perhaps not so good for Ajax though. Can see a lot of clubs sniffing round van der Wiel and Stekelenberg now. I love that the Brittish commentator adds "van" to Stekelenberg's name as well as any players that haven't played in England.

Suarez with a hand ball that saves a sure goal. Red card and Gyan misses the penalty. Hard to watch any longer. If Uruguay go through our captain will miss the match.

Now uruguay sans Suarez is beatable! Yes Forlan carries a threat but Suarez's intimate knowledge of the Dutch backline is a bigger danger.

Khalid at right back? Hmmm wonder how I forgot him.

Stecklenberg
Bhoularouz-Heitinga-Mattisen (or Ooijer)-Van Bronckhorst
Van Bommel - DeZeuw
Sneijder
Kuyt - Van Persie (I'd rather Huunterlaar) - Robben

Should get us into the final... .
I don't really care if Holland win the final but they must qualify!

Uruguay without Suarez should be beatable. Ghana would have been tougher imo!

I really do believe the Oranje will win the Cup. KJH will score the winner and this particular englishman will go mad with delight. I was rather excited this afternoon though .

Yes, and yes. I was pulling for the Netherlands all the way, though I'm sad for my father, who was born and raised in Rio; I haven't talked to him yet, but I'm hoping he hasn't hurled himself out a window....

Gotta say that Felipe Melo is an ass, no matter how provoking Robben was. Melo used to play for Fiorentina, my son's favorite club, so we were already quite familiar with his inability to control himself. I wonder if part of the post-match hysteria in Brazil will involve Dunga's decision to include him in the starting XI - I know he's a hard man and all, which Dunga admires, but it was really just a matter of time.

And how in the world DID Van Bommel avoid being booked?

CONGRATULATIONS to the Oranje for an incredible, uplifting performance. :headbang.gif: So stoked for Wesley. Couldn't happen to a nicer , down to earth guy.

When Brazil put the ball in the net so early and so easily, I really got worried -- then relieved that it was disallowed for offsides -- but moments later they scored again -- this time a legit goal -- one that we really looked sick on -- and I really got scared that we were going to get blown out (England - Germany, anyone?).

It looked like they could walk all over us at will, but gradually, as we got into the second part of the half, we started to play lots better. We really took control in the second half, and after we got the tying goal I thought it was going to come down to penalties for sure. Couldn't believe it when the second goal went in -- but now waiting for the final whistle was almost unbearable. Get up -- pace out of the room -- pace back in -- sit down --get up pace out of the room ..... What joy and relief when it finally ended.

Agree about van Persie -- must not be in top playing shape yet -- put in Hunts and let's see what happens.

Purple Cow's Ghost schreef:I see Cruijff's point, I wouldn't pay money to see this Brazil team play football either. They were awful, Oranje did o.k. - with an easy draw so far, this could be their year. Though how that cheating, diving c*** van Bommel wasn't sent off is beyond me. He committed 4 or 5 yellow card offenses, even without issuing yellows for 'simulation'. He has played in Germany way too long - ditto Robben he was similarly theatrical.
Agree. Robben spent something like five minutes writhing on the ground holding his ankle despite not getting touched while Sneijder and Bommeltje demanded the ref give the Bazilian defender a card. I'm sure Monkey Tonk will be around now to demand that Holland pack up and leave... :biggrin.gif:

Having said that, what a hell of a win by Oranje. Sneijder was very, very good in the second half. I was surprised to find that watching Brazil get booted so early in the tournament was even more satisfying than I thought it was going to be.

I am convinced it will be Germany in the final and this time the Oranje will win .Germany got their revenge for the 1966 goal over the line that should never have been now Holland wants its revenge for
1974.

Go win that cup and turn the whole football world Oranje.

Same here. What a second half yesterday ! Probably a WC classic. Brasil is an imposture and have not played like Brasil since 1986. Their goalie's costume made him look like a clown. And he behaved accordingly. Which club is he playing with btw ? :smallgrin.gif: Suarez is a better goal keeper.

FORZA ORANJE ![/color]

I want the Hunter also, but BvM prefers Feyenoord players I suppose.... or alumni. And Oijer wasnt bad either. Actually could be better than joris. Lets wait and see, If we perform seriously we will be in the final for the first time since 78!!! And then lets deliver a EURO 2008 performance and trash anyone who stands against us.

Suarez Faces Ban in Final

Totally deserved, unfortunately. He cheated to deny Ghana the victory they had earned (barely), and Uruguay don't deserve to advance. If they beat Netherlands, he will surely miss the final too.

But they won't beat the Netherlands. It's only possible that NL will beat themselves. (But they won't, I'm convinced.

Well, Germany certainly punched their ticket in convincing fashion, didn't they? Argentina were lucky it wasn't 6-0.

That was unexpected, to say the least. Very impressive, considering how young the squad is. Ozil is amazing.
