I can only wonder what would have happened to him if Liverpool hadn't thrown a ridiculous amount of money our way. Ultimately that hurt his development a lot.

FWIW, Andy Carroll had a really good match today in the FA cup semifinal against Everton and got the match winner just before the end of the match.

Agreed -- I would have taken him off instead of Downing at that point. Then again, he wouldn't have been on hand to get the match winner.

This was an awful game, Liverpool didn't do anything in the first half, in the second half Everton played extremely weak. If Carroll would have been replaced by, for example, Luuk de Jong, De Jong would have scored 3 or 4 goals in 90 minutes football against Everton.

I don't get quite impressed by the skills of the English club teams anymore.

Problem with Liverpool is that Dalglish doesn't have a clue what to do with the players he has. He kind of says go out and play and they "try" to do just that. They were also hurt badly when Lucas was lost for the season. He was the only good midfielder on the squad.

He almost did the same against PSV in that bite-game if I remember correctly.

I remember him being close to score a similar goal against psv when we draw 0-0 against them. That was the match he went all vampire on Bakkal.

Thank you and goodbye to - for now - Jeroen Verhoeven, André Ooijer, Bruno Silva, Nicolás Lodeiro and Dmitry Bulykin. This thread is their new home, from now on.

Dario Cvitanich is still officially an Ajax player: his deal will expire at season's end (30 June 2013). Jan Vertonghen is still there, too, and so is Mounir El Hamdaoui: looks like his transfer to Fiorentina will be finalized, but we're not there just yet.

Schoop was the regular striker for our A1 youths last season a big old fashioned type of striker evidently who scored some goals. We did not give him a contract and back in May he was going to Sheff U for a trial . Clearly he has decided to try for a club in the small english leagues

Thanks....I'm positive I'd seen him mentioned somewhere else in UK links....the old fashioned CF is always a hit in English lower leagues!!

In fact, I don't understand why Ajax (with all the young players they sell) don't just have a club policy of only negotiating with teams that accept this clause as a prerequisite in any deals. It would ensure complete funding for "de toekomst" for ever....

Looks like Ajax will get some good cash from Zlatan's move. AjaxShowtime reports a 1.5% clause in his contract will give Ajax 375,000 euro. Not bad.
