Plus Wigan are in free fall and likely to be relegated.

Landzaat is overrated, I think. He wouldn't bring anything extra to the Ajax squad.

Not another player we won't be able to sell. I'd rather get some younger players.

That's our bigest problem- we buy players with intencity to sell them. besides, i don't think, that davids would cost us a lot. i think he could be very useful for the team and great leader on the pitch for couple years

Ofcourse we don't buy with the intention of selling. That's utter crap. We buy with the intention of making the team better. When the team is good, you will get good results and when the results are good you will get a lot of money of you do have to sell. You will need that money to get a new player.

Hmm, I think we also have at least half an eye on selling them. For instance Huntelaar, there's nothing that says you can't buy a young player, improve the team, and then sell him on and buy someone else.

It seems an accepted fact on this forum and elsewhere that Huntelaar/Babel/Sneijder etc will move on eventually having improvethe team in the meantime (before anyone reminds me I know two of those three weren't signings as such but you get the point)

Ofcourse they eventually leave, but you keep them under contracr because you have a vision of them making Ajax better.

Players are kept under contract so that they can't leave on a free. That's the reality of football in the 21st century.

But whatever approach you take, does it really make a difference in how you scout? Looking for good players and players that you can make a profit on is essentially the same thing.

It's in all Dutch newspapers and websites like VI. One English link I found:
http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/26012007/1/a ... -deal.html

It seems to be pretty serious this time.

It's all over the news, van basten. It's just a matter of days. Just the clubs have to agree some sort of fee.

The bad thing is: Spurs know that every paper and website in Holland has now announced it, so there's no way back for Ajax. Ajax would look like a bunch of twats if the whole thing falls through. Spurs know that - so they will probably play it tough and ask for a high fee. Which would be ridiculous for a thirty-something with only five months left on his contract. I have a feeling that we're going to pay too much for this one.

Spurs want him off the payrole, so we should be able to get him for free. But because of the media pressure we're not in a good position, negotiation-wise.

K.

It's up to Jol now, and i'm afraid, that he could say, that he don't want to sell him, like he said that many times before. or he can ask for not reasonable price like Ko said. but i hope that we will take Edje home...

Oh man that would be awsome :cheer: :eusa_dance: the pitt bull back at the arena wearing red and white.

PD: but i agree he`s not superman so we sould not over pay him

According to Tien, it's a done deal... We'll see that tomorrow, probably after the game I guess ?

According to reports Jol expects Davids to sign this weekend, price not mentioned. He seems "happy" to release Davids as he's got perferred players over him.

1million is the most Ajax should pay.

According to the papers today Ajax don't have to pay a transfer fee for Davids. He will be checked medically tomorrow and can make his 'debut' against Feyenoord.

If we have got him for nothing then I will stop moaning. he will be good for us
but paying money for a 34 year old with 5 months left on his contract is insane.

Just glad to see the potential for bite and toughness in the midfield. AT LAST. Not that Gabri doesn't have any d skill, but his play seems to go from inconsistent to non-existent; if I ready supporter commentary accurately. The Davids move could really make Olaf Lindenbergh odd man out. His time might truly have been measured in hours not days . Except that our central D took two hits today.

Davids on free transfer to Ajax

AMSTERDAM, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Midfielder Edgar Davids is to join Ajax Amsterdam as a free agent, the Dutch press agency ANP reported on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur have given the former Dutch international a free transfer back to the club where he started his professional career in 1991, the agency said.

Davids and Ajax reportedly agreed an 18-month deal on Friday and if the 33-year-old passes a medical examination he is set to make his debut next weekend against arch-rivals Feyenoord.

Davids helped Ajax win three league titles from 1994-96 plus the UEFA Cup in 1992 and the Champions League in 1995.

A year later he joined AC Milan before switching to Juventus where he won three titles in 1998, 2002 and 2003, Barcelona and Inter Milan before moving to Spurs in 2005.

He has represented the Netherlands at four major finals and has played in four Champions League finals

Van Basten said:

He was on the bench for one of the uefa cup games for tottenham, therefore he is elegible to play for Ajax against Werder Bremen.

See http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players/st ... 17&cc=5739

Under the Uefa rules if you start in the line up or come off the bench and play then you are inelegible to play in the same competition for another club in that season, but if you are on the bench its quiet a different matter.

Where did you read that it says that in the UEFA rules? If I'm not mistaken, once you've been put on the roster you become ineligable.
