Okay, so now there's a rumour on AT5 Text that Real Madrid are willing to pay 70 million euros for Zlatan Ibrahmovic. If that happens it would only prove what a terrible deal it was that Ajax struck with Juventus.

Okay: Zlatan now has experience in the Serie A, he still has a deal for three years and transfers from one major league to the other are always for bigger cash. I am not saying that Ajax should (or could) have demanded 70 million for Zlatan.

But it should have been 25 or 30 at the very least! He still had a two year deal, the new season had already started, it was Juve's last chance (so we were in the position to play it tough), we were about to play Juventus in the Champions League and there was a clause in Zlatan's contract saying that he could only leave Ajax early for 40 million euros.

What a terrible, terrible, terrible mistake that was.

Worse is the fact we are only getting the money from Juve over the next 4 years.

I cannot believe R Madrid will pay 70 M Euros that makes him worth more than
Rooney who went to the scum for about 40 M Euros.

I see the press today is stating that Reizeiger is coming back to either us or PSV. If Trabelsi stays why do we need him !!

Last seasons 3rd choice left back Jelle Van Damme is to leave Southampton, where he was also 3rd choice. Anderlect have been mentioned and so have the
F-Word. They would then have 2 of our rejects as full backs. Greene has joined them.

The Rooney comparison is very interesting. What says that he couldn't go for more than Rooney? How many goals did he score this season? Against far worse defenders and with a constant attacking team in his back. As Rooney and Zlata nwere transfered last season I thought it was a joke that Everton got what they got and we got what we did.

I am, however, a bit partial. But I'm still able to see it with semi-clear eyes.

Seriously, Zlatan is way better than Rooney, who did the business at Euro 2004, but is rather overrated if you ask me...

Well, it occurs to me that there are more factors then just playing skill that come into these equations. Most notably, a player's marketability. Is Beckham worth a $10 million salary? probably not on his play, but if he sells $15 million worth of Real Madrid shirts out in Japan, then the club is getting a good deal. Just like Rooney will generate more merchandise sales than Zlatan, because he is english and over-hyped, even though Zlatan is the better player.

Absolutely...it's down to marketability.
There is another factor though...Rooney appears to have that British self destruct personality (Best, Gascoigne e.t.c.), and will be losing his shine in a few years.

Koeman hated Zlatan so he was open to any price

But ofcourse Zlatan wont move, I mean, he just started to settle in Italy, I doubt he would move to Spain

Does anybody know if the Ajax board, in all their wisdom, managed to negotiate a sell-on clause with Juve?

10% of 70 million would still be 7 million that could come in handy.

Still the worst deal ever though. You'd have thought they'd have learned something from the Chivu rip-off fiasco the year before.

In this respect, and only in this respect, we could learn a lot from PSV. They've negotiated mega-deals for Stam, Van Nistelrooy, Robben and Kezman. I mean, for fuck's sake, PSV got more for Kezman than Ajax did for Zlatan.

Well you do know Chelsea and PSV have a special status, and now Boca is with them. Ajax don't, so theyre willing to listen to any offers Juve had to make :pukey:

Yeah, right. Koeman was the one who believed the most in Zlatan and who defended him in times when things weren't going so well. Koeman was probably the one most disappointed with Zlatan leaving. He knew the team wouldn't perform half as well without their only quality striker. I'm sure Zlatan still would be in the team if Koeman could have chosen. But in that case Koeman could probably still be in charge, and we'd still be struggeling with bad results.

The worst thing is not that we sold Zlatan without getting a decent forward (wow, if that wasn't the worst thing, you know you've done a bad deal) but the fact that we gave away our only striker - one of the most promising talents in the world - to a team in the same Champions League group for nothing. We have hardly got any money at all for him yet, for God's sake.

Just for the record I am not a fan of Rooney, who is good but certainly not great. I was just comparing prices and would assume that on the current transfer market he would be worth more than Zlatan. Scoring goals in England isvery easy compared to Italy.

The more we all think about how the AJAX Board handled the Zlatan transfer the more depressed we become.

PS One very minor crumb to think about Van Bommel has gone for nothing and on the current market PSV should have got between 10 and 15m euros .

Big difference his contract ran out.

Well that's what I heard, and I think it was true, since many players had conflicts with Koeman-Sneijder even said f** you :worshippy:

I'm not sure that's true. I heard they something around 8MEUR for Kezman. Anyways. We cannot say it more times than we already have. We were ripped off.

I'm sorry but I've read this several times but I still don't understand what you're saying.

If scoring goals in England is easier than in Italy and Zlatan scored way more than Rooney did. Then in what way should Zlatan not be more worth than him?

Hi PER you are quite right re above it does not make sense.

I was trying to say that with all the hype about Rooney and the fact that he cost £30m about 45m euros a year ago I would not expect to see Zlatan costing more than Rooney given that he only cost 16m euros a year ago.
( Even though it is easier scoring goals in England than in Italy )

If Moan U wanted to sell Rooney only 3 clubs would probably bid for him Real Madrid, Inter and Chelski.I would expect them to have to pay as much 70 m euros ie as much as Zlatan.

I mention the above 3 clubs as they along with the scum are the only clubs who would pay out over inflated fees for players.Teams like Milan , Juve Barca, Arsenal have not paid out over £ 20 m for a player.

JOB, getting up to speed?

For those interested, here's an article on former Ajacied (and Ajax-USA talisman) John O'Brien. Seems he's getting healthy and will be playing soon. God, I hope he stays healthy. He needs some good luck, that boy.

"If scoring goals in England is easier than in Italy..."

But what evidence do you have for that statement? the record of Italin strikers in the Premiership would suggest that there is no real evidence for that.

I agree that Rooney is over-hyped, as all footballers are in England, but he is quite a bit younger than Zlatan, and has some way to go in his development. So I think the jury is still out on this case.

Make of this what you will (from FootballUnlimited.com)

Real deny making offer for Ibrahimovich

MADRID, May 24 (Reuters) -

Real Madrid have denied making an offer for Juventus striker Zlatan Ibrahimovich.
Media reports quoted the player's agent as saying that the Spanish club had offered 70 million euros ($88.54 million) for the Sweden international.
"Real Madrid would like to make it clear that no one from the club, either directly or indirectly, has opened negotiations of any sort with the player's agent, nor the Italian club, nor with the player himself," Real said on their website on Tuesday.
The club issued a similar statement recently denying that they had any interest in signing any players from Manchester United after media reports said they were lining up England defender Rio Ferdinand and Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo.
Real have gone two seasons without winning a major trophy and there is furious media speculation about which new players the club is likely to recruit in the close season as it attempts to strengthen its squad.
Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard, Sevilla defender Sergio Ramos, Real Betis winger Joaquin and Juventus midfielder Emerson are some of the other players to be linked with the club in recent weeks.

I wonder why those responsible for the Zaltan bargain are not sacked. Very strange affair.

Anyway, let's get Kluivert back, he must be better than Charisteas.
