Joey Didulica retired this week. 4 seasons with Ajax, 5 with AZ. Old-timers will remember Joey as one of the best friends of Ajax USA. We had a lot of nice interactions with players and coaches over the years, but Joey's the only one who bought us all beers, at De Toekomst one night.

Both Leonardo and Rasmus Lindgren had contrasting fortunes in their Europa League match for RedBull Salzburg's 2-2 draw away at Atletico Bilbao. Leo made the first goal and scored the second after a neat one-two with the scorer of Red Bull's goal. Rasmus on the hand got a second yellow after allegedly being pushed in the back which resulted in him handballing in the box.

Time for Chivu to come home?

Despite how poor he purportedly is, I'm sure he's no worse than Ooijer or Blind.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dwE1XmD ... r_embedded Our former captain has one of the goals of the year for Liverpool in the Carling Cup the other evening! Damn, I really wish we had the finances and standing to have kept him on board!

From Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Luis Suarez - The all-star Ajax team that could have been had they kept their best players

From Goal.com:

http://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editor ... -star-ajax

It's actually crazy when you sit back and think about it (I know we wouldn't play with two holding midfielders, what about current players like Eriksen, they only reached their potential cause they left e.t.c., e.t.c., but still it's quite a team)....

Boca Juniors clinched the league title in Argentina this weekend by beating Banfield, 3-0, in the decisive game.

Two of Boca's goals were scored by our good man Dario Cvitanich. Good for him.

Some of the strikers who 'failed' at Ajax are actually decent football players. They just happened to be at Ajax at the wrong time. People like Markus Rosenberg, Wesley Sonck, Dario Cvitanich... They know how to kick a ball and how to score a goal. The fact that they failed doesn't just say something about them; it also says something about the club that Ajax was when they played here.

K.

Actually, this is something that I have thought about for a while. The way I see it, it comes down to their strengths aren't suited to the way Ajax wants them to fit into the Ajax style of play -- so the success they had before they got here, and the success they have after they leave may be due to the fact that the other teams give them more opportunity to play to their strengths, rather than having them redefine their styles to fit the Ajax way.

As I recall it was van Basten who brought Cvitanich to the club and I remember watching some clips of his goals for Banfield. He clearly was/is and exciting goal scorer. I think it was just a case of being in the wrong club at the wrong time. Glad to hear that he's enjoying some success back in Argentina.

Props to Dario ! Always liked him at Ajax . Sadly, injuries didn't help his cause.

ManU and Sir Alex are probably thinking they wasted a lot of money on de Gea after today when they could have bought Steks for 1/2 the price. Terrible goal keeping!

Shock result of the season at Man U. de Gea is only young but not in the same class as last seasons Man U goalie the one and only Edwin vd Sar .

I was watching that game too. Rovers are my second club because of family connections, although I seldom admit it. de Gea is only young but he was far from impressive. Stekelenberg would've been a far better choice!

Not sure this has been on here before. Quite surpised to see from last weeks Voetbal International (thanks go to one of my daughters nursery classmates dad who is Dutch and an ADO fan) that Andy van der Meybe is playing for WKE in the Topklasse.

I know he was a bit over-rated and all that but at 32, where did it all go wrong?

Rumour has it that he left Inter due to alcohol problems, then joined Everton, then failed a yearly medical due to liver problems. :confused.gif: but (as my lawyer has told me to say) that is just rumour.

I spose the law of averages says that I'm going to agree with Alex Ferguson once in a while and here it is. Suarez is certainly an absolute disgrace and still doesn't get it.....

Johnny Heitinga has put together a solid string of matches for Everton. Rock solid on defense for them and they won again today beating Chelsea, 2-0
