Well no one else has so I'll be the first to say Happy Birthday Ko (and before anyone thinks I've got an exceptionally good memory or anything I had a little help from another Website - one that I won't be using for much longer if they start charging from the 1st July.....)

Pretty certain it's true - think it's been on the TV News here as well and there's at least one group on there opposing it. I don't really care anyway as I don't use it that much.

So if it's on the news it must be true, huh?
Looks like it's an urban myth.

There is an astounding article on Soccernet today regarding clubs in debt:
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story ... nd&cc=5901 The English Premier League, long held up as the best and most competitive of all the leagues, accounts for 56% of UEFA club league debt across Europe. One club, Portsmouth, is likely to go into administration (bankruptcy) this Friday unless a sugar daddy appears. Their debt as well as West Ham (another one that owes lots of money) are not even included in the official report. The report has not been released yet so it's difficult to say where the Eredivisie falls (Spain's league is the second most indebted).

Man u debt is £700m
Arsenal about £400m
and Liverpool £300m
Arsenal's is a proper mortgage to cover the new ground the other 2 are simply because their American owners did not have the money to buy them so they obtained loans secured on the clubs.
NB.
Just to say that Administration is not Bankruptcy . Bankruptcy of course is an individual but a company is Liquidation . An Administration is where a firm of Accountants take over the running of a company as a going concern and run it until new owners take over. If in Portsmouths case no new owners are in place by May I would imagine that they will go into Liquidation and they would then ceased to exist like our poor little Haarlem.
PS Sorry if you all know that but thought I would clarify. Do you have this Administration in USA and Netherlands or do companies just go straight into Liquidation ie close down.???

I think in the case of Man U, the Glazers have always had the money. they are simply diverting cash from operating funds to their own purposes. It's not illegal but in my mind unethical. the Liverpool owners have fallen on hard times and their state is more perilous.
Thanks for the clarification on administration. We do not have a similar thing here in the US. There are, however, various forms of bankruptcy that can be declared that have differing legal implications. I'm not aware of any of the major professional leagues (baseball, football, or basketball) where a team has declared bankruptcy in recent years. there always seem to be prospective owners who will come in and purchase the team. all three leagues have collective bargaining agreements with the players that provide some financial protection through revenue sharing (football being the most aggressive with each of the teams getting essentially the same amount of money from TV and salaries at a cap limit).

Thought you fellas might enjoy this picture of my son
Ryan, doing his homework. They had to read and do a report on a biography, so he chose this (pretty lame) old book I have on Johan Cruyff.
By the way, he wears that shirt to school at least twice a week, sometimes more (I'm not exaggerating).

Nice one - and an excellent excuse for me to post a similar photo.

My daughter Sjoukje actually asks to wear her Ajax shirt when she's with me now

(but she still hasn't converted her Mum!)

In the last 3 months I have used Google translate to read what our dutch mates are saying and reading some dutch sites. Although the english translation does not always read right one thing amuses me .
Names are translated. Advocaat is called Lawyer and Siem is refered to as Young . Thoese are obvious.
But the reason for my posting is to ask why some clubs names are translated .
Groningen was translated as London.
de Graafschap Middlesbrough
And then the Irish
Omniworld Drogheda Unt.
AGOVV Shelbourne
and today Cambuur is shown as Sligo Rovers.
Now reading translations makes me abit of a sado ,( I am retired and had far too much time on my hands this winter ) but I do like reading mainly about the youth and who is coming through .
I can understand translating peoples names but the translated names for some of these clubs is weird and it does seem very odd giving 3 clubs Irish football clubs names.

I have been through that for the past few years. I love the way they translate names of players.
Google lets you suggest better translations to them. So maybe in the interest of us non-Dutch reading Eredivisie supporters, we should all start doing that.

Another interesting "insider's perspective" from John O'Brien:
Twice Told: Championships, Playoffs, Fan Passion From Two Perspectives
For the players, we all agreed - it was like lead was coursing through our veins, the heavy metal making neurons skip frantically from one thought to the next. There was no flow, nothing that connected the past moment to the present, the present to the new. Fragmented, unsure, questioning, we all reflected this condition.
I swear, this guy has a touch of Cruijff in him. :-)

NBA Finals time! Here's the essentials:
A Guide to Hating the Celtics!
If it's not enough then just remember, Lakers are like Ajax and the Celtics are like Feyenoord. Go P&G!

The Lakers were a lot easier to like when Magic Johnson was running the show on the court. I can't stand Kobe Bryant. He is a good player, though.

Yesterday's
New York Times Magazine included
an interesting feature on Amsterdam mayor Job Cohen titled, "The Integrationist: Can a Jew who reaches out to Muslims be the next Dutch prime minister - and a model for Europe?"
Excerpt: "What makes him different, besides the approach toward immigration that he pioneered in Amsterdam, is the aloof persona he has forged, which led one national newspaper to declare (somewhat tongue-in-cheek) that the nation now looks to him as 'the savior.'"
In other words, sort of the Mourinho of Dutch politics?

Unusual question this I know but can anyone in the Netherlands tell me if there's any organisation I can complain to if I've bought something over the internet from a Dutch company which hasn't arrived.
In the UK we have something called the 'Mail Order Protection Scheme' (MOPS) but is there something similar in Holland?
Thanks
