OK, can I join the Leeuwarden fanclub too?

I went there a year or so back during the close season. Really nice town and as Ko says, a nice ground too - they let me have a little unofficial tour when I was there.......

Leeuwarden would be an excellent one for a similar trip. Small place, but with an edge to it. Just like Cambuur, really. Nice old stadium in the middle of a neighborhood (it's becoming a rare thing in football).

As I said: they're 'street'.

Yeah most stadiums have a massive plaza or square around them, glad White Hart Lane isnt like that...til they give us the new shiny advert-laden monolith. But the greatest stadium for appearing out of no where to my knowledge is Volendam's stadium. I used to live in Alkmaar and so made it a point to visit all the local areas, i was walking around Voldendam for a bit and suddenly out of nowhere this lil shitty stadium was in front of me! Shame too cause Volendam is a nice place.

Kowalczyk schreef:Promotion/relegation play-offs! The two finals are...

Roda JC vs SC Cambuur
De Graafschap vs RKC Waalwijk

Best-of-three is the principle. Winners to play in the Eredivisie next season.
RKC Waalwijk vs De Graafschap is 2-0 after 60 minutes... Mind you: it's the first game and it's not about goal-differential. If both teams win one leg, a decisive third leg is to be played.

But De Graafschap are in major trouble here, that's for sure.

RKC won 2-0 and the other game was 0-0 RKC did in fact finish 2nd and had a good season so it will not be too surprising to see them go up.

still the season is not over.

NAC beat Groningen 2-0 , 3-1 overall to qualify for the Europa Cup.

Playoffs for promotion relegation.

Roda v Cambuur 1-1 and 1-1 after 2 legs. The 3rd game on Weds in Leeuwarden

De Graafschap won 2-1 , 3-2 overall to RKC after 2legs with the 3rd leg in Waalwijk on Weds.

Cambuur and RKC should now be in pole position to go up we will see.

Half an hour left to play and the scores are...

RKC Waalwijk vs De Graafschap: 1-0
SC Cambuur vs Roda JC: 1-0

So, De Graafschap have been relegated. RKC Waalwijk went up to the Eredivisie.

Roda JC survived on the highest level, which means they might also survive as a club.

What an unbelievable battle that was. 0-0 in Leeuwarden in the first game, 1-1 in Kerkrade in the second, 1-1 in Leeuwarden in the third, 2-2 after 30 minutes of extra time, so a penalty shoot-out had to force the decision after all, after 310 minutes of football.

Cambuur failed pretty miserably from the spot (three misses out of four), but over all they were rather unfortunate. They were the best team in the first match (0-0), scored a goal that should have stood, were denied a penalty and hit the cross-bar in the dying minutes of the second leg (1-1) and they were 1-0 up until the 87th minute in the third leg.

Lots of trouble after the game in Leeuwarden, by the way (Cambuur fans versus police).

Somebody correct me if im wrong, but is there a big problem with Hooliganism in Holland? I have read a fair bit of stuff. Certainly seems more so than in England for example.

F-word and Puma have yielded to pressure from their fans and abandoned those hideous new jerseys. See http://www.blog.wongwong.com/2009/06/pu ... anges.html (and I especially love that he spells it "Feyernoord" throughout :drecul.gif: ).

Now, about those stripes on the new Ajax kit.... :ajaxsmiley.gif:

Johan Cruijff Shield (Dutch Super Cup):

AZ - SC Heerenveen: 5-1.

We all know AZ have a decent team, but this is a remarkably big win.

Not so sure, Ronald Koeman has not had enough time to work his magic! :biggrin.gif:

Check it out... AZ went 3-0 down at Heracles Almelo.

But then they scored twice in one minute's time (the 77th). Current score: 3-2.

Come on, Heracles!

It's the Ronald Koeman effect! :ajaxsmiley.gif:

Edit: AZ are losing the plot in the dying minutes. Both Swerts and Pellè red carded.

Edit 2: Final score 3-2. Nice one!

How did Koeman ever get so bad? Though I don't feel right making jokes on him...

Its one thing to play football, and its another thing to coach :drecul.gif: ask Van Basten, Blind and Maradona :biggrin.gif:.

:smallgrin.gif: Only too true. But he wasn't much bad until he went to Valencia was he now?
And his trophies paint a different picture entirely:

Ajax:
Eredivisie (2001–02, 2003–04)
KNVB Cup (2001–02)
Johan Cruijff-schaal (2002–03)

Benfica:
SuperCup Cândido de Oliveira (2005–06)

PSV:

Eredivisie (2006–07) (This one was so insane!)

Valencia:
Copa Del Rey (2007–08)

AZ:
Johan Cruijff-schaal (2009)

Koeman inherited a very talented team from Co Adriaanse and slowly, systematically tore it down. Ditto for PSV and Benfica. That's kind of been his modus operandi - he gets a good team and then things take a turn for the worse. In fact, the biggest error of the Koeman era was the fact that he defeated Van Gaal in a power struggle, resulting in Van Gaal's departure from Ajax. That turned out to be a mistake.

But he almost got Valencia relegated. Inherited a great team that I think won the UEFA Cup the previous year under Juande Ramos who left the club for Tottenham to replace Martin Jol who was dismissed [small world indeed]. Team was in total disarray under Koeman.

Ramos came from Sevilla who had won the Uefa cup
Quique Flores preceded Koeman at Valencia (there was a caretaker manager inbetween whose name escapes me)

Thanks, couldn´t quite remember how it went. I think Valencia did pretty well in European competition the year prior. The only thing that saved them when Koeman was manager was winning the Copa del Rey which qualified them for UEFA play. Club is in very bad financial shape these days.
