Gabri

Gabri spoke at a press conference the other day and according to the reports in the Dutch press he seems seriously up for a move to Ajax. The big obstacle, however, is the salary he demands, which is high by Ajax standards.

I'm all for buying good players like Gabri, but like I said before, that policy of buying Latin players didn't prove to be really successful in the recent years...
It's quite a cultural/weather/way of life gap and it seems to be an obstacle.
The fact that the head coach speaks Spanish could be really helpful though.
Let's hope Ten Cate won't be as stubborn as Koeman or Blind and won't require Dutch only. I'm sure it didn't for Rosales, Juanfran and the likes... Spanish already have a hard time learning English, so Dutch
:X

Has nothing to do with cultural background. Juanfran, Gabri and Rosales just aren't very good. As if Gabrich lit up La Liga after his departure from Ajax.
Simple b.s.-spin from crappy scouts.

also rosales isn't good in your opinion?

Nope. Not as bad as the others, but not Ajax-material.

I don't think we should pay Gabri anymore than we do with Sneijder or Heitinga. Ajax just don't have the money right now and instead of paying this chap get someone expensive on a lower wage like Defour

Amen. He has some (too rare) good moment, but overall, he's failed.

Giving Gabri more money will not go down well with Sneijder, Heiting etc. After all De Jong did not get as much as them and that was one of his reasons for going.
I am hoping we do not get this Barca reserve. Last summer we signed another Spaniard only to find we had someone better in our youth ie Urby.
If Davids does come what do we want some nondescript Spaniard for ???

so you think we'll buy another RW? but who? whilelmsson was a very good choice but seems far away, jenner and diba disappeared from news reports..
in my opinion rosales finally begins a season like a REAL starter in the squad, like never did before, and this should make him work

i also think the critiques of rosales are too harsh - he started very well, had some issues with form and fitness, then came back very strong and very spirited the last half of this season

I don't know what does "another" mean? Now we have only Mauro Rosales. And no-one else... Do you think of de Mul? He's not much better than Soataers! Or maybe Krohn-Dehli? But I agree with you at one point - Wilhelmsson seems fantastic option. I hope that Ajax didn't forget him.

Another transfer rumour? ;) . Ok, just kidding... I agree with you. Rosales had a good season and I hope the next will be better. Besides we don't have any options - he must play, because he's the only RW in the squad :xyxthumbs: .

I can't believe that it's true, but according to Diario La Prensa Ajax offered almost 10 mln euro for Cagliari's striker Suazo.
Do we really need 100th striker? Let's eye any right back and winger.

I don't think the Suazo news its true, it wouldn't make sense to buy another striker at the moment. I wonder what happened with the Defour deal, I read that wednesday was supposed to be a big day because people from Ajax and Genk were going to meet to negotiate about the transfer. But it's thursday and I haven't seen any news.
Anything new concerning Gabri? I'm not too excited about him coming to Ajax but I do admit that it would be good to have a player that can play all over the field. I checked some Barcelona forums to find out news about him and most people liked the guy because he came from the youth team but that's about it, not many liked him because he played well.
Anyway, I really like this time of the year when we start building up a new team and getting new players but we really need to be very serious about who we are getting, Ajax has to get the best players possible :xyxthumbs:

Gabri will be in Amsterdam for talks today and rumour has it that he's already made up his mind and might well be presented at the ArenA today...

If he is coming to Amsterdam as a utility player who can play a lot of minutes at a lot of position's than i'm all for it, i just hope he is not being seen as a BIG piece in the jigsaw puzzle. Used in the correct way he can be somewhat efective but like i have said before he is not starting eleven material.

I would definitely be up for Gabri coming to Ajax; but not if it's instead of Davids. Davids could really be the inspirational focus of this relatively young team, as well as an energetic, tough, skillful midfielder. I don't see Gabri in the same mentor-like way as Davids could be. It would be ideal if both came, I think, and that Gabri has been got on a free transfer is a steal.
Wilhelmsson

Looks like Wilhelmsson is going to sign with Porto now according to norwegian media. Is he forgotten by Ajax?
I'm i fact looking forward to see Gabri next season. At least it looks like ten Cat has confidence in him.

FC Copenhagen have put a bid in on former Ajax-winger Jesper Grønkjær, who is unsettled in Stuttgart at the moment. They were allegedly told by Sttutgart management that his price is currently 2m euro - one million down from the price being floated this spring. A couple of other clubs are mentioned as being interested including Panathinaikos, Bordeaux, and Dortmund. But 2m seems rather cheap, doesn't it?

I'm kind of frustrated with the Defour situation. I heard lots of good things about the kid and he sounded very promising. I've read today that van Geel said that it's not very clear if Davids wants to come back to Ajax. If the Davids negotiation has failed well that would suck big time but I still have hope :eusa_pray:

do you think we'll go on mendes da silva then?

no, because Mendes is a right footed player and Davids a left footed player. We need someone for the leftside.
