As a former NY-er, I am a staunch Ranger fan, but anyone who loves finesse hockey should like to watch Detroit. The likes of the Kings or Ducks I can't even watch on TV.

I get email notifications of news stories about Ajax. Those might be about our beloved footy team, or about the town of Ajax in Ontario, Canada, or about the scripting methodology known as AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript And XML). You can see for yourselves which of the three this story pertains to. But hopefully, AFCA's recruiting efforts have not gotten THIS bad...

Yeah, but that was Ajax the Lesser. Our club is of course named after Ajax the Great...

I'm hoping the collective expertise of this group can help me out. I'd love to find a season-highlights video of the "Treble"-winning Ajax of 1971-72 on DVD. Is there such a thing? I found several individual matches on voetbalvideo.com, but the earliest season-highlight disc I can find there is for '78-'79.
Many thanks for your help!

Ask the ajaxfotoside.nl webmaster who has an impressive collection of videos.

As far as I know there were no highlights videos for each individual season at the time. In fact: not even every Ajax match was recorded, I think... A complete compilation of all Eredivisie goals would be impossible to make. Lots of footage has been lost over the years.
However, there is a very cool highlights 2dvd-set of the 'Golden Years' (1971-1973): league goals, European goals. I reckon that dvd is about as complete as can be. I'm talking about this one:
http://www.bol.com/nl/p/dvd/ajax-de-gou ... index.html
Not sure if you can order it from abroad, but SE6Ajacied normally knows a way to order it from outside of Holland... I'll pass the mic on to him now...

Fame at last, cheers Ko

. I've certainly ordered from the Dutch bol site before (I still get regular e-mails from them) so they will definately deliver abroad though it might be cheaper to check on Ebay first as they sometimes have this and other Ajax DVD's for sale (including some complete games from the 'Golden Years' - mainly European Cup games as they were televised).
I've bought stuff from that Voetbalvideo site before as well, they are very good. I can also recommend "Johan Cruiyff Nr. 14" on DVD which you can get from the bol site as well (
http://www.bol.com/nl/p/dvd/johan-cruij ... index.html). Only 6.99 Euro's and it's got some great footage on there. It's a documentary about Ajax and Cruiyff in particular from 1972. Dutch language only but you won't need a commentary for most of it.

Just checked Ebay for you. They've got the Ajax DVD though much more expensive than from bol. Someone in the USA is selling a few European Cup games from 71/72/73 though if you're interested

ITV4 are running a show called 'The Big Match Revisited" at the moment, basically "The Big Match" ITV highlights show from 30 years ago this week.
They showed 14th January 1979 today and thought people would be interested that the 'man of the month award' for December 1978 went to Haarlem coach Barry Hughes for his raspberry at the opposition coach (forget his name) in the game against AZ67.
There was a short interview too, apparently the ill feeling all dated back to Hughes time on a KNVB mandatory coaching course when the other guy was the tutor.
Quite amuzing really. He had this toy whistle with a papar streamer on the the end

Just watched what they are announcing as the last ever episode of "I'm on Setanta Sports" hosted by a puppet Jose Mourinho after the NEC game.
This can be quite a funny show, regular phone in's from impersonators of Wenger/Ferguson/Benitez etc but it struck me that no-one outside the UK will have seen it,
Anyway here's a link, quite an old show but there's plenty more on You Tube

The Sons of Ben TV website , the new Philly MLS entry supporters club are the Sons of Ben or SOB's) have seven episodes up. Great stuff. Shut up Sven !! . Great line. I also like the Wayne Rooney puppet ( "it's malaria -like "). Wayne looks classic with the Amish beard and jug handle ears.

Genius goal from Gourcuff against PSG, for those who haven't seen it.
http://www.101greatgoals.com/videodisplay/1957135/
You need to watch the second and third replays to do it justice.
And just how cool are French football commentators?

Not sure if this should be with the pathetic jokes (or is that a Feyenoord only zone now) but it certainly made me laugh. Can't see this happening at the ArenA somehow....

First thought...

On second thought, can we borrow Me -Tu ? The parrot would be great for freekicks. Whistle blows suddenly, catch the opposition napping. I love it .
After viewing Richard Dunne's kick out at a Wigan player with the ref 8 feet away and watching intently, I can't decide whether Dunne or Me -Tu is the bigger bird brain.

The 50 worst things about modern football according to the Times :
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/ ... 589815.ece
Funny, sarcastic, and often sadly true :
3.The Champions League
What’s changed since the European Cup turned into the Champions League in 1992? Everything. If you won the European Cup, you were the best team in Europe. If you win the Champions League, you owe someone £700 million.

1. Television
The monster that ate football.

It's probably true. It seems like what's happening is that a small number of clubs keep dividing CL revenue, and the rest of Europe just goes about its business. And I'm not sure I have a problem with that. Let the big clubs play boring soccer in front of dozing fans, and the rest of the teams can focus on the game itself.
