This will likely be the only political statement I make on this forum:

FUCK YEAH. WE DID IT!

Awesome! This will have a huge impact on the country and perhaps even the world. Last few weeks it became kind of obvious he would win but when I first heard of his campaign it looked like a long shot at best. But he's run a very special campaign. Beating Hillary in the semis and deciding the election by winning every swing state in a great victory. Both houses will be blue as well, right? It'll be interesting to see how his term will pan out. Most everyone I know is very excited.

I'll try to steer clear of politics too (politics and religion - the only two subjects GUARANTEED to start an argument) but just to say that to the US voters for restoring my faith in humanity a little this morning......

I think SE6 mirrors my thoughts. A great day for America and I hope the world.

Now it's time to bring the change in the Eredivise too. Yes, we can. :ajaxsmiley.gif:

Yes, there are a lot of us who believe our exodus from the last eight years of financial and military recklessness is now at hand. Now if only Obama can get us a right size brand new football (soccer for those of us here in the US) stadium for our home town team DC United, he will earn my gratitude forever!!!! :headbang.gif:

Effing brilliant--even though I live in a stubbornly "red" state, I am proud to be an American again, for the first time in eight years. Lovely piece by Alan Cowell in today's New York Times, by the way: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/06/world ... ax.html?hp

Now if Ajax can get some of the wounded back and start kicking serious butt, my happiness will be just about complete!

Being a card carrying Libertarian, I have little or nothing positive to say about the tweedle dumb and tweedle dumber parties that have the US, GAG REFLEX, 10 trillion in debt (not counting social security) and involved in two wars. That said, I am deliriously happy to be rid of DUH-B- YAH. A corpse would be an improvement.

We are seeing devaluations on the order of 20-30% in some parts of the US.
Don't get me started on the impossible real estate market in the Netherlands (where the prizes are going trough the roof, even in this crisis)! :biggrin.gif:

But on-topic, Van Basten had some 'illegal money' from Berlusconi stacked somewhere. :smallgrin.gif:
Yeah, even if you have a fulltime job with a career prospect, it's still not possible to live in Amsterdam, unless:

a) You have very rich and generous relations
b) Have been on a waiting list for a house since 15 years before you were born
c) You know somebody

I've seen people get places that way, but it's not possible to get a place to live any other way. It's disheartening.

But I'll stop now, otherwise Herr K will tell us we're all going off-topic. :icon_biggrin.gif:

Well now it won't be off-topic :ajaxsmiley.gif: ...

I was curious about something, so I wanted to continue the discussion.

What are the more affordable areas (or surrounding areas) to live in in Amsterdam? I'm guessing nothing in the Centraal area, but at what point away from the city center does housing pricing get more reasonable?
What are the actual prices for housing here (more in terms of rent than owning, I guess)?

Anyone fancy a go at playing club chairman? Football teams get bought and sold all the time but I've never seen one on Ebay before lol

By the team badge/colours I think this team are of Croatian origin

This film sadly confirms all of my prejudices about ice hockey :excited.gif:

I've truly seen it all now as well - don't know how excited the commentator was about the game but he was really excited about the fight :smallgrin.gif:

What a douchebag (the commentator, I mean). I actually love to watch live hockey (not so much on TV), in part because I'm in awe of anyone who can actually stand up on skates AND manipulate stick, puck, etc., but to me the fighting is like some weird atavistic holdover from caveman times. And there are still people like Don Cherry who think it's a sign of manliness, and fantasy leagues that actually count penalty minutes as a positive stat--like putting your team a man down is a good thing. Jeez.

I think the fighting is one of the most entertaining parts of a hockey game!

Well, actually, the Flyers were (and are) one of my favorite teams, along with the Bruins. (Grew up in the Bay Area, but there was no percentage in rooting for the Seals.) So I guess I've just completely contradicted myself. Oh, well. I guess what I really object to is the prejudice against skilled European players--as if they're somehow effeminate because they don't drop the gloves at the drop of a hat, as it were.

But that's probably more than enough about hockey, right, Ko?

(Ice) Hockey

For those in the States, in about half an hour, NBC will televise the only hockey game of the day: the Classic: Chicago Blackhawks vs. Detroit Red Wings. For Old Timers like Yours Truly, that brings back the greatest of memories like Ted Lindsey vs. Gordie Howe, etc. Enjoy!

Nothing like an original six matchup Pond Hockey style. Too bad I'm a Philly fan and despise both Detroit and Chicago.
